    Great comparison. Confirms why I like the G12M so much. It’s got great upper mid bark and presence without the fizz.

    These videos are great to compare before you make the decision on which speakers to buy. Mixing and matching seems to be the best way to go.
    I recently acquired a Fender Supersonic Twin. The previous owner installed a Celestion A Type and left the Vintage 30 in. It's a great combination and one I will leave unless I want to lighten the load a bit with some Neos.

    the G12M 25w is the best! even compared with the V30 no way. The V-Type, G12H-75 and G12M-65 are preatty close but a little darker.. the Classic G12M is perfect to my hears...

    Awesome and useful speaker comparing, as usual ! My confirmation about my personal falling in love with G12-65 Heritage. It's same G12T-75/G1280/Classic Lead sound-family but a bit but still important less mid-range in respect to all of them. Fantastic sonic tool !

    I needed this video!!! Thanks!!! I was thinking to put 2 gold or ruby alnicos in my straight 412 with greenbacks. The goal was to achieve a little bit more mid punch and less high sizzle with my vintage modern.
    Now, I think with gold alnicos they works perfectlty!!! Maybe with hours of playing they will get also a bit warmer.
    Thanks

    Really interesting, I think this showed that the Greenback, like the comparison last week with the Vintage 30, pairs pretty well with most other speakers. As for which ones I preferred, kinda difficult with some much sonic info, but I think I preferred the pairings with the more similar speakers, so G12-65, both H Heritages, M Heritage, etc. That WGS Invader sounds good too. As for the mystery speakers, I've no idea what that is! Cheers.

    • @ZillaCabs
      @ZillaCabs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't wait to say what the speaker is! I agree, I do like mixing a greenback with another similar speaker, I think they tame the H's a little too, put a bit less emphasis on the high end those speakers can bring.

    Excellent demonstration!
    I would like to answer an old question about speaker combinations.
    I'm very interested in the combination of the Greenback and G12H30... But I hear a lot of comments that the low sensitivity of the greenback makes the g12H30 Dominate the sound...
    does this proceed? or do they combine well?? I've even seen this combination in a Bogner speaker but I'm still in doubt.
    I appreciate any comments.

    • @ZillaCabs
      @ZillaCabs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Flavio, thanks for that. Technically you wouldn't to do it, not on paper anyway... but...... things on paper don;t always translate too well to guitar. In reality its not that big a problem as long as you are aware of it. In a closed back cab the effect seems to lessen, the H30 will reinforce the M a little. Matchless do it too, tonally it sounds great so I wouldn;t worry about it too much.
      In short, it is something to be aware of people on the internet do seem to blow things out of proportion a little.

    Most of them sounded great with the Greenback. The G12T-75, which I usually like, sounded a bit hollow. The Ruby sounded a bit constipated. The Vintage 30s were a bit much. But aside from that, it played well with others. Any problems related to the fact that it's less efficient than most of the companion speakers?

    • @RG-yz8ov
      @RG-yz8ov 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've paired a blue with a g12m 25 in a 2x 12 closed back in series with the blue on the bottom. I really can't hear any difference in how loud they are, thought it would be bigger. In fact i mainly hear the greenback but haven't played them at loud levels as of yet and still bracking in.

  • @lucianobranchese4344
    @lucianobranchese4344 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Awesome guys! Thanks. A question, do you do the process of break in the speakers? And a humble request, can you do the exact same video with the Celestion G12H30 Anniversary? I tend to prefer him over all others because the mids (1 khz), to me sound more close, open and have more bright than V30 or G12M25, that sound a bit muffled for me. Whats the speaker that sound more even in the midrange for you? Also the charts are great. Thanks again. Cheers

    • @ZillaCabs
      @ZillaCabs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is a really good question..... we went for speakers straight out of the box, which again isn't very fair but it is how you will hear gear in a music shop. Also it is hard, with so many speakers to give them the same amount of time to break in, and they also break in at different rates. Speakers will soften up with age... we're going to do a video on that soon. We will be doing videos for all those speakers... plus we have clean, dirty, rock (which this video is), heavy rock/lead and metal..... so there are a fair few videos to put out ;)

    great video! I love seeing the power spectrum of each speaker. Sorry for my ignorance- I imagine these could be thought, most directly, of as a measure of the amplitude response at some fixed point on the speaker cone? But I have no idea how the actual measurement is done. The main thing I'm wondering about is how much uncertainty there is in the measurement and whether it would be interesting to subtract one power spectrum from another to highlight the differences?

    • @ZillaCabs
      @ZillaCabs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will be honest, in this situation I haven't used that setup, it is Joe that does it, it is a piece of software that analyses it. It is mostly showing the frequency response of the whole system rather than just the speaker so isn't massively useful, we just put it in there to illustrate a little. The physicist in me has a few questions about the frequency response being taken using a sweep of frequencies rather than a broadband pulse, but again I'll be honest and say I haven't looked in to it all that much, better to use your ears for this kind of stuff. Great question by the way.
