When I was growing up Larry Bird was all my family talked about. I was the only girl in my family of many boys so I had to play basketball, football and baseball or I was called a Sissy Girl. Of course I could only play if I could actually play ball and my cousin’s would all call themselves LARRY. 🙆🏻♀️😝🙌🏽. He was truly the “Goat” in my household when I was a kid. Thanks for reacting to this Nostalgic Memory for me. 🙋🏻♀️🇺🇸
If you want to see the jewel in Larry's GOAT crown then your next should be The Bird's Greatest Assists video. James Worthy of the LA Lakers said "I'd much rather guard Michael Jordan than Larry Bird. Jordan made you look slow, but Bird made you look stupid."
Larry would hesitate with a shot, while his opponent thinking they were going to block it would go sailing by, and sometimes, Larry would just call out 'Stupid' as they went by. Also, James Worthy, a basketball great once said, "Michael Jordon will make you look slow. Larry Bird will make you look stupid."
Here is a heart touching story of Larry & Wilkins in a Shoot Out Game; when Ya get a chance check this out. "Why You Never Poke Larry Bird-A Trash Talk STORY Told by NBA Legends!" by Nick Smith NBA. It's not a whole lot of trash talking BUT it's about One game when Larry & Wilkins had a 4th Quarter shoot out. What makes it for Me is that Larry did this while He was Hurting & You can See it in His face that's He's Not feeling good. In fact He ended later having to have Surgery on both of His Feet. But it's really good hearing the Team He played against telling a lot of this story. Anyway Thanks for doing this one & Great Reaction too.
After you check out so many videos with his talent and skill, you should check out Five Times Larry Bird Was Injured, But Wouldn't Quit. These guys that talk about him being slow and not athletic get their foot in their mouth when you see how Larry played with all his injuries beginning before he even signed with The Celtics, and nobody else was calling plays. He's the absolute GOAT!!
The fly bird comment happend against the Cleveland cavaliers and their TV commentators still say he got a bird when someone jumps on a pump fake and that game happened like 35 years ago
People talk like Larry Bird wasn't a good defender, but 3 times he was on the All-Defensive team. He packed the stat sheet with 10 rebounds and over 6 assists per game averages over his entire career. Three consecutive MVP awards in the mid-80's. One of three or four players that could be considered the best ever.
@@meminustherandomgooglenumbers You made me curious if this was accurate, so I googled a list, and you were pretty close. Number 50 on the list was Billy Cunningham at 10.15, so Bird just missed the top 50. I recognized all but a few names on the list, and a few players (like Kevin Love) toggled between PF and C, but the true forwards included Bob Pettit, Jerry Lucas, Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman, Happy Hairston, Elgin Baylor, Bill Bridges, Dave DeBusschere, Tim Duncan, Happy Hairston, and Billy Cunningham. A couple of those guys, like Duncan, played a bit at center during part of their career.
And Bird LED the league in Defensive Win Shares 4 seasons. Second place twice. In the top ten his first 7 seasons. Defensive Win Shares computes the impact to the opponent's offense when that specific player is on the court. Bird was a force to be reckoned with.
One small part of the story Brad Daugherty didn't mention. As he flew by Bird, Larry hit the ball on his butt as he said "fly bird", then nailed the three. He even took the time and had the ability to embarrass him further by hitting his butt with the ball too. Larry Legend was a Legend for a reason
The Hick From French Lick! I am not a basketball fan but in the 80s, Bird made it fun to watch. He is a legend, I bow my head to the legends even if it ain't my thing.
In first 9 years . Larry finished top I'm MPV all 9 seasons . 4 second place finishes and 3 first place . His 3 first places was Gome 3 years running . Goat
What allot of people Don't know is that Right before he was going to sign up for the Boston Celtics. He messed up his shooting hand playing baseball ⚾ and needed major surgery to fix his hand. He used to shoot 60% from the field before his hand surgery. And even admitted that his shooting stroke wasn't the same after his surgery. He would practice shooting with his eyes 👀 shut and remembering the muscle memory from certain position's on the court. When he gets Hot 🔥 Watch out. One of a Kind nobody else even comes close to Larry Joe Bird 🕊️...!!!
Every player in the NBA who signed a contract from 1990 on owes a minimum of 10% of their salary to Magic and Bird. Without those 2 the league would have folded.
The Bird built a house for his mother, helped his family, donated to French Lick, and saved money like a man who knew what it was to be dirt poor. The Bird exemplified discipline and excellence.
For those that think Larry Bird was not as good as he really was and never had the chance to see him play this comment is for you. Remember in this comment I am just highlighting Larry's NBA accomplishments. Little know thing about Larry to those that never saw him play , he could effect the outcome of a game and never take a shot thats how devastating his passing skills were. Here is one thing that most fans (people) either don't know or try to ignore, prior to Larry joining the NBA there was no such thing as a three point line, that came in when Bird was starting his first year of his NBA career. Just think about it, what would todays game be without the three point line or if the line was one foot farther out like it was when it was first introduced. Food for thought. At that time it was not about the individuals stats it was about the win. But if you need some stats here you go: Here are some of Larry Bird's notable career achievements and statistics: Three-time NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986); Two-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986); Three-time NBA MVP (1984-86); 12-time NBA All-Star (1980-88, 1990-92); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88); All-NBA Second Team (1990); Three-time All-NBA Defensive Second Team (1982-84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); NBA All-Rookie Team (1980); Three-time NBA Three-Point Contest champion (1986-88); Career-high in points: 60 (March 12, 1985) -- tied for franchise record with Jayson Tatum; Named NBA Coach of the Year (1998); and Named NBA Executive of the Year (2012). Larry Bird, was the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 achievement, and one of two players to achieve the feat in multiple seasons. Career averages: 24.3 points per game 10.0 rebounds per game 6.3 assists per game 88.6% free throw percentage 49.6% field goal percentage 37.6% 3-point percentage Now we can't forget that Bird famously played with two injured ankles and a notoriously cranky back that forced him to lay down on the floor during practice breaks. After season-ending foot surgery just six games into the 1988-89 season James Worthy, who played against both Michael Jordan and Larry Bird, said, I'd much rather play. against Michael Jordan than Larry Bird. Jordan made you look slow, but Bird made you look stupid.
Larry was incredible! Players from that era were tough. Nowadays they take a month off for a stubbed toe. SMH. Another saying from back in the day to describe a made basket is "he's playing strang music". Basketball is a great spectator sport, it is exciting, it moves fast & doesn't take 4 hours of your day as compared to football.
Two videos I'd recommend on Larry I'd think you would enjoy: th-cam.com/video/1b4B-G3MFRk/w-d-xo.html is about the "The Duel" between Dominque Wilkins (the Holmes guy on this video) and Larry Bird and th-cam.com/video/geLVr171Agg/w-d-xo.html is about the game where the opposing team (again Dominque and the Hawks) was cheering for him. Doc Rivers told the his side of the story in this video. Both videos go in depth about the games and were told by all the players involved.
Yea I Love Both Of These But, I Really Enjoyed The First Suggestion Here. Because Bird Played This One Hurt & You Can Tell He Wasn't Feeling Good, You Just Can't Stop This Man. It was great touching story. I hope They share that one for sure.

Yeah, Jordan never recovered from that first encounter. He never did beat Larry, which is exactly why Bird did that. This was the psychological warfare Bird waged against his opponents.
Too many players preferred guarding Jordan than guarding Larry. Several reasons: his basketball IQ was greater than Jordan, and his passing to the open man was better than Jordan (in case you double or triple team him - it helps to be 6'10"!), and even without the ball he's always moving to have an advantage, so as a defender you can never relax and have to always keep thinking about what Larry is up to! Even though he had crippling pain in his back his last 4 years, he still was one of only 2 players with 3 MVP's in a row, and still regarded as one of the top 5 players all time. MJ is still the all time GOAT, but he never beat Larry Bird in the playoff during Larry's peak days (before injury).
All his back talking, I never heard anything personal. It was all based on their game. At least one time, he said, your mother's in the stands tonight, right? How embarrassing for you!
Larry Bird is the GOAT!!!
Larry Legend… back when basketball was fun to watch!! ☘️
The video that finally determined who is the GOAT is Bird’s passing video. He could have been the best 6’9” quarterback.
Bird was beautiful. The harder they came at him the better he played. He got the opposing team to become spectators.😂Boston loves him forever
Yes we do❤️
Most players talk trash after they score....Bird had the skill and confidence to talk before he burned them.....
Larry Legend known for his trash talking. lol It's not trash talking when you can back it up, it's just greatness. ❤🏀

Yeah, he had a lethal first step.
There’s only been like 50 players in history who averaged double digit rebounds for their career, and most of them were centers.

In a 9 year run from 1980 to 1989, Larry Bird got 67% of all MVP
