Paul has the potential to be country powerhouse... He has that unique quality that sets him up there .. hope he keeps putting out seriously good music.
Just lost my grandmother this morning, such a strong beautiful woman. She raised me to a man more than my mother or anyone for that fact. Rest your soul grandma. Her last test for me.
Vocally I get it... otherwise, I don't see the match up. I don't wanna say Colter is more hat than cattle but... I think he'd get showed up as the lesser artist on this hypothetical collab (which I don't feel he is, personally) unless it was the perfect track. Too much red dirt in Paul, not enough disco or soul in Colter. He gets plenty of airtime in my truck, but I think its gonna have to be a Tyler Childers type, or to take it another direction, Charlie Crockett. Not Charlie's normal gig but with his ability to go out and bring in obscure tracks from a generation or two ago and either turn out a cover that sounds like the song is his, or lay it down true as hell to the original - I don't know, I just think it'd work out surprisingly well for as much difference exists between em. Lot of ways either one of my examples could just be a trash fire of a failure, but - I stand by it!! Nothin wrong with a track with Wall either, just wouldn't expect dynamite from that pairing.
Thanks for the tears man. I think about my son's endeavours. I want to pray for an easy life for him, but I know an easy life isn't a successful life. It's a double edged sword that cuts me every time I think about it. Keep making fantastic music brother.
Amen. When I got home from my 3rd combat tour, my Daughter was born shortly after, shes 6 today and the materialistic, ego driven, young brute of an ass I use to be has moved on, all I can do is try to teach her how to endure the world and lifes challenges while watching her enjoy her youth, knowing its just a matter of time before her veil is lifted and the reality sets in. Take care. Cheers
I grew up a country music hater, Sturgill Simpson helped get me to this point of finding folks & appreciating their abilities outside of what I used to like
It's rare you hear an artist like Paul. When a song can transport you in your mind like this song, you just know they have true talent. He's firing on all cylinders with this one! Great work!
So, I'm not someone that likes country at all. I've never had the ear for it, it just never sat right with my palette, and I'm someone that listens to mostly everything. So as I was listening to Paul's interview on NPR (on the way to work), I was pretty disinterested. Then they played some clips, and I was enticed. So I loaded up his album on Bandcamp and played it all the way through at work, and now I'm a fan. Room 41 is One of the best albums I've heard this year. It's truly good from start to finish, and now I can say I like "country." The fact that he mixes soul, rock, r-n-b, and other genres in makes it a joy to listen to. Not to mention the instrumentation is so skilled and interesting, his songwriting and storytelling is really unique and well-done, and all of the genres are intertwined so well, and his voice just melts it all into one perfect package. I'm like a superfan of this guy right now and I really pray for his success, because if this is the type of stuff people think of when they say "I listen to country", I'm all for it.
Paul Cauthen, you are spreading like a wildfire. Your fans will keep lighting matches in unsuspecting hearts. Thanks for the Boise show this year. The rain fell hard from my eyes during this song. I can't wait to see you again. Six months later, I'm still tapping into the energy you put out that night.
I know this won't be cool to say on this comment section, but I don't think I've liked a single song hes ever sung the 1st time I heard it. Luckily I have a rule to always listen to new stuff 2 or 3 times, and he is quickly becoming one of my favorite new artist that I have found. Thank you for the great music, and I will keep on listening. Update: I have listed to this 27 times now. Too good to stop.
Saddle was that way for me. Now I can't stop listening to it. I knew Cocaine Country Dancing was going straight to the Ipod before the song was over though.
Thanks Theo Von for playing Paul C on the podcast! One of the best albums I've heard in a long time..Great album from start to finish, this guy is so unique, I hear alot of Cash in his voice
Man, I would love to spend a week partying with this dude. Paul definitely became probably my favorite in county of this generation. There are a few other good ones but very few it seems. I would love to see a duet with him and Colter Wall as they both have voices that are deep, rich, and stand out.
Was just introduced to this guy and I’m a quick fan!! His vocal range as a baritone is really something else! And the song was a beautiful amalgam of a Mumford and sons meets colter wall but totally original at the same time! Well fucking done Paul!!!
Cocaine Country Dancing was a hell of a track, but this one is amazing! I'm seriously impressed with his range and charisma. All that, and he doesn't take himself too seriously at all. BEST OF LUCK MAN!
His voice is like a mix of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings . Ive had cocaine country dancing, saddle and big velvet on shuffle. But THIS might be at the top of the list
I was just thinking about that very comparison of his voice. When in his lower range he sounds like Johnny, when he hits his mid-range he sounds like Waylon.
Absolutely amazing. Was super stoked over this after I heard the reverb session. Now all I need to be complete is a studio version of reign on my mind.
Holy Ghost sh*t! This song and accompanying album, Room-41, is mind-blowing. I'm a Springsteen fanatic so every time I listen to a new album I set the bar extremely high. It's very possible that Paul Cauthen bent the bar and broke the sound barrier! The mix of musical talent and expression on this album is genre-bending and soul rectifying! Hats off to Paul and the band for creating a beautiful album! Already looking forward to his future work.
I catch myself singing this song on the regular.
The rain turned to hail...cold, dark and pale....and it beat me as I fell, Lord I fell. That's some real shit
How bout it

Hello Dustin
I’m with you Dustin.
The combo of county and gospel = feel it in the heart . Paul, you ever get that tour together with green sky?
He is the POWERHOUSE! PERIOD.
hope hes never takes a big record deal to get him on the radio theyll try to force him into the cookie cutter and thats the gonna work for Big Velvet
This song sounds like Waylon Jennings' music and Arcade Fire's music had a baby.
Just lost my grandmother this morning, such a strong beautiful woman. She raised me to a man more than my mother or anyone for that fact.
Rest your soul grandma.
Her last test for me.
Sorry about your lost 😞
I cannot help but feel and sing this song
Gem of gems. The Highwaymen and such are happy with this real new generation...Paul is legit and worthy
How does this not have 200 million views
This song is something special. I planted a crop new years morning. My hope crop of flowers. 1/1/22 sunflowers 🌻. Largo Florida

Paul - don't stop being you. You're inspiring whether you believe it or not l.
Man...Paul's music really does strike a cord within me. His voice, the lyrics, the persona. Have not felt this since Stevie Ray
He's got a hint of Johnny Cash in him 👍
That man has a lil Cash in him. You got a new fan. This is the first song I've heard by him. It won't be my last.
I was thinking waylon

@@jefft23 as for Cocaine, I had to listen to that one twice, then immediately sent it to everyone I know!
Lol Nice. I heard him do this one on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas with just an acoustic guitar. Way better than this recorded arrangement, in my opinion
I feel this. After that second listen I'm always hooked though. A tribute to him for being different and challenging the norm

“All the Johnny Cash comments”... get old after a while?
If Arcade Fire wrote a Johnny Cash song it would probably sound something like this.
There’s never been a more accurate statement
