In a way, I think screwing up the location made the video turn out better. If they found the right hill, the video would have basically been a rehash of what MJD already went over in his video. The gaffe added something extra and I thought it was actually pretty funny that they went all that way just to take a picture of the wrong place.

Even if you didn’t get the exact hill, your picture still captures the feeling that Bliss is meant to evoke. Sometimes perfect recreation shouldn’t be the goal - homage and evocation are just as important.

I drive by that hill all the time. I only recently found out it was here in Sonoma County.
Back around the time Windows XP came out, I was actually living in an area where I had to commute by that hill daily. And I think that would have been the time before the vineyards had been replanted on it. So little that I knew I was looking at the XP hill as I was driving to work. I do IT for a living. Funny I didn't notice it.

Operating Systems are like modern day canvases. They have evolutions every so often but we build so much emotional attachments to them because we spend so much time in them creating, producing, socializing etc. I love the nostalgia it's like revisiting an old canvas and the paintings we created on them during a point in time.

As someone who lives in Sonoma County. Most locals don’t know about the “bliss hill” thing. There is a lot of interesting famous locations from movies and TV in all of the north Bay Area. (Sonoma county and Marin county) for example in Sonoma County, the beach at the end of Goonies is goat rock beach. The original location of Lucas Film is in Marin county (more specifically Lucas Vally) and a lot of famous scenes in old Lucas Film productions were filmed in Marin. George Lucas still lives there for part of the year.

There is a local park someone posted to google places as a lake, It is actually a river and the lot is owned by a local org devoted to restoring the condition of the river.
I tried to edit such and give credit to who owns it along with setting the web site and other information for google to 'reject' my edits except the 'public hours' stuff.
Due to the wrong information a fishing location and river trail exit has a shoulder to shoulder crowded beach making it a pain in the rectum to get gear out of the water.

All the Windows XP wallpapers have a special place in my memories. My earliest memories of using a computer involved messing with customization settings like wallpapers and screensavers.
Have you ever made an episode talking about the Windows 98 desktop themes like Mystery and Inside Your Computer before? That might be a fun idea for a future video.

In 2001, I was still working for a computer store chain in the SF Bay area. Roughly a week after the attacks on 9-11, me and a bunch of my co-workers, went to a Microsoft Hosted event at a local hotel convention center. It was a pre-launch show for XP and gave a deep dive into all the new features of the system. We participated in hands-on demos, had a Q&A with one of the execs from MS, and even a catered dinner courtesy of the hotel. All of us went home with a goodie bag with a t-shirt, and other items, as well as a free copy of XP. I remember booting up XP for the first time on my home computer and getting lost in that wallpaper. It did not erase my depression or sadness over recent events, but in weird way reassured me that things might be Okay... Someday.

And a whole lot of walking in the rain going "f it, this doesn't look like the right place". If I were to follow someone else's footsteps, I'm sure the research and footwork would be no less dire.
