  • The deep and remarkable history of GoldenEye's hardest mode, MAXED SETTINGS, or what's been come to be known as "DLTK". What began as a challenge from legendary GoldenEye speedrunner Ilari "Illu" Pekkala, has since turned into the most nerve-wracking, suspenseful, and epic mode of competitive gameplay in all of GoldenEye 007 speedrunning.
    In this particular episode, we examine some of the longest, most intense, epic completions of DLTK stages, where Illu painstakingly clears rooms inch by inch, taking over twenty minutes to complete numerous stages.
    Enjoy this deep dive into the early origins of GoldenEye's DLTK mode, analysis of completed runs, and discussion on the game and speedruns that tied it all together.

    This first run with Jaws is a horror movie. The scariest run in Speedlore history.

    I played this when it launched in....'98? I was in high school and my friends would all meet at my buddy Jason's house and we played 4 player split screen for HOOOOUUUURRRSS. Literally 6-8+ hours straight on weekends sometimes, especially it it was raining. For his birthday party, we started at 4pm after school and played all they way through 5am (it was down to me and Jason, the other 2 had passed out). I stayed up by mixing yesterday's cold coffee left in the carafe with Dr. Pepper.....it was the worst tasting thing I've ever consumed but the energy was like a Red Bull (which didn't exist yet).
    Good times....🥺😥😢😭

    One critique Goose, throughout these videos you're often responding to discussion, like "That's right Flicker I agree". But by the time you respond their comment may be off the screen. This leads to a viewing experience where I'm often having to go rewind to see what you're agreeing with. I can understand why you'd do this on a live Twitch stream, where the conversation is constantly kept on the side. But I feel that for content made for TH-cam it doesn't quite work. Therefore I feel like it'd be beneficial to tell viewers what you're responding to for Speedlore. So Instead of "That's right Flicker, I agree." It could become "Flicker in the comments is saying this level is exhausting, and I agree. Or "That's right Flicker, I agree that this level is exhausting". Maybe just something to be aware of. Much love Goose.

    dude THE ENDING on Caverns!!! nobody understands the true intensity until you at least watch a full run like this, especially in the year 2004 before Simple Plan became a thing. Also where's my ammo crate optimal path maps, i'm gonna need these for my Dam 00 3:59

    • @goldenirie
      @goldenirie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On dam just follow what we do on dltk. You can't even pierce a single box with the kf7. You want to blow up the bottom boxes that hold the top box, so the top box drops down and gets damage dealt to it. The point of explosion spawns where your killing blow hits, so spawn that as much directly below the top box as you can. So it drops down, gets damage dealt from the fall, and falls into the flame. That way it's only 1 or 0 bullets to finish off the next box

    • @goldenirie
      @goldenirie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      AR only pierces one box so it's not really that complex on caverns

    At 9:05 - 9:14 he's looking down to increase the processing and frame rate to dissipate the smoke from the grenade quicker...a trick I used to use when playing older games, especially Goldeneye which was pretty graphics intensive for the hardware pf the time. If you keep looking at explosions, especially multiple, the game will bog down and run at like 2 fps.

    The DLTK Depot music is not an "8 bit version", but a MIDI version. How it actually sound depends on your operating system and its implementation of General MIDI.

  • @reloadpsi
    @reloadpsi 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    So according to the website, Goldeneye Forever, slaps to the front do the same damage to the head and torso. Slaps from behind do double, and slaps to the limbs do half.
    I couldn't find a source for this, but I've noticed enemies who haven't yet "activated," such as the interrogators in Archives, go down in a single hit even on 00 Agent. Maybe when that's the case they're classed as hits from behind but I don't know.
    They do double from behind likely because of the scene in the movie where Bond chops Xenia in the back of the neck to KO her - it's known in English as a rabbit chop and in Japanese (and pro wrestling) as an "enzui giri" (strike to the afterbrain.)
    You'll hear English-language wrestling commentators pronounce it "enziguri" and it's usually a leaping kick to the back of the neck rather than a chop, but the idea of striking the medulla oblongata (the afterbrain) is the same. To Japanese speakers, whether it's a chop, a kick, or a really well-aimed thrown rock, an enzui giri is an enzui giri.
    Bond rabbit-chopping Xenia actually raised the film's age rating here in the UK (among other things) and the shot is usually cut when it's broadcast on TV.

    • @SpeedLore
      @SpeedLore  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct in that enemies who haven't "activated" will go down with a single slap. This was extremely useful info on Jungle SA & 00A, for example, where we would slap the first guard for his AR33.

    My actual first ever exposure to DLTK was, unfortunately, this guy who suddenly had a nervous breakdown about this girl he was stalking and decided to take all his runs down, replacing them with videos about how it was okay for him to stalk her, and it kinda ruined the genre for me :P
