    I had a 2004 DHS for about 10 years and it was flawless. I only spent money on oil, filters, a few bulbs and brake parts. Definitely a mob ride (says the Italian boy). Nicer than my 85 Deville.

      By most accounts, GM finally managed to fix that (mostly) by model year 2004 and every 2005+ Northstar is no more susceptible to that problem than any other engine.

    I miss my 02 Deville DTS. I’ve been waiting to find a 2004 Deville DTS in white with night vision, 2004 was the year they added the cooled front seats and heated steering wheel, plus the last year for 300hp Northstar. Hard to find here in Canada. Love this review. Wish this one had night vision! I’ve driven all of them, the DHS handles just fine. The DTS is certainly a bit better on the handling but not really that big of a difference - still lots of body roll and arguably more torque steer with a DTS. You could get night vision in DHS and DTS the entire time, for 2004 they made night vision available on base Deville as well - super rare to find that. These cars are truly great daily drivers. 04 is hit and miss with head gasket issues, most seem to remedied by that time. Even still, once that job is done, these things are reliable tanks that are *planted* in the snow. Deville’s have real Nuance leather made by Eagle Ottawa - they all do. DHS is ruched Nuance leather (door panels only for 04/05, prior models have ruched seats), DTS is perforated Nuance (until 04 when all were perforated when with heated and cooled). Devilles have the zebrano wood appliqués, yes, but DHS and DTS have the real zebrano wood.
    All my friends loved my DTS (my first car in high school) it was always the car everybody wanted to ride in lol.

    Even though this Deville has the lower power output Northstar, it can achieve 27mpg on the highway. If you get the Northstar Performance tune, you can get more than 30mpg out of the 275hp Northstars. I have the 300 horsepower variant in my 1999 STS, but I'm not getting anywhere over 23mpg at 80 mph.

    Very good overall and fair review. I have a 2005 Deville DHS as my primary daily driver that I've had for 6 years now. Since then I've put on almost 90k miles and all trouble free. These are great cars to enjoy with a LOT of options, comfort, safety, room, and so much more. The fuel efficiency for a big 32 valve V8 is great. After driving and so use to the car now, it's very difficult to go back to anything less. My dad had a black Deville DTS that we really enjoy a lot. I know you do a lot of different cars but film another review of an older Cadillac again!

    How rare these Northstar Cadillacs are becoming kind of makes it almost worth saving one by having the engine out and thread tap to bulletproof the engine. It’s probably not worth it on a DeVille/DHS but the last of the Eldorados....if you found a flawless one with low miles, all stock, in some triple black color scheme looking 90s Mafia boss then yes it might be worth spending more than the whole car is worth to fix it once and for all. Review a Seville STS from the early 00s if you find one. GM put a lot of money in that model to compete with Lexus but the engine problems doomed it.

    I bought my godparents 2001 with 150K on it for $1000 and within 2 days, someone backed into the driverside door. So I found a 2002, same color and interior, for $500. The only thing wrong with it was that sensor in the tranny and it wouldn't stay in overdrive. It was a little worse shape than the 01, but it had 95K on it too. So a good parts car I figured for $500. I drove that 02 till the tags ran out. good car, just no overdrive. not a bad pickup for a driving car for $500 for just parts....lol....a door cost more than that...lol,,,.I like the big bodies. I ran my 01 on the scale and it was 100lbs shy of 5000 lbs. I ran my relitives 4x4 93 chevy on the scale and it was only a couple hundred pounds heavier....lol....all I can say is that the big body rides better than the newer shit out today.

    Do not buy this car unless you are rich. A lot of shops don't want to work on a Northstar. Take it to the dealer. I bought one 3 years ago for $375 from a police impound. (Type Deville cleaning and one of my videos will come up) It had 146k miles when I got it. Yes I still own it and it now has 162k miles.
    Don't let a stupid tech like The Car Wizzard tell you it has a blown head gasket. If it ever run hot. The first thing a less skill person will think is it has a blown head gasket.
    I wish GM had install a 5 speed automatic transmission because the engine is over geared. The car only seem fast when you floor it. I love the sound of the engine and it will get around 19 mpg in the city.

      Lol, $1500 for an HID headlight is ridiculous. Even $150 is a bit steep for an OEM bulb (in fact, a brand new genuine D1S bulb and working OEM ballast together shouldn't set you back much more than 150; 300 for doing both sides). It'll take some time to install though, especially if the car was driven in the rust belt. A lot of modern vehicles have difficult-to-get-at front lighting, so that's not a problem that's necessarily exclusive to DTS. It's got its share of pricey repairs, like with most domestics, but nothing too fatal.

  • @alc.8415
    @alc.8415 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    160k miles?!? I don't think people really understand how important changing fluids ON TIME and preventive maintenance really is. 160k miles is not really a lot; with proper maintenance (and I emphasize proper, no extended intervals, cheap fluids, or any "fill for life" c**p) the vast majority of cars will make it at least 250-300k miles with few or no issues. After that, they might need some work like replacing some seals and gaskets, but after that they'll be good for another couple 100k miles. And yes, I know the Northstar engines had head gasket bolt problems, but if it's fixed by a mechanic that knows what they're doing, problem solved. It's called proper and preventive maintenance, people.
