Definitely great!!!Class, elegance and swing...Teddy Wilson is my favourite jazz pianist(and I've been lucky enough to shake his hand and obtain his autograph in 1983 in Turin)....
The beauty of these recordings lies in the fact that despite their stylistic differences, they all speak the same language. Moreover, they are all at the top of their instrumental form. In my opinion, Emmett Berry stands out, fluid and powerful, as well as the simple but solid arrangements. It's a good post. Thanks Billy.
That is in my opinion the best group ever. Teddy Wilson Sextet with Edmond Hall cl, Slam Stewart bass, Emmett Berry tp, Benny Morton tb and Big Sid Catlett dr, Another great sextet by Teddy Wilson was in the 1940s with Red Norvo on vibes. Teddy Wilson is my favorite Jazz pianist at all. He was brilliant in his long career from the 1930 till the 1980s.
Honestly I just about agree, i took a liking to teddy wilson listening to Billie holiday an his piano playing really stuck out to me he has a really good style.
Just a correction here. This session wasn't recorded "live" (as in the sense of before an audience), and it wasn't recorded at the Onyx Club, nor did the band play there. This group appeared at Cafe Society in New York, and this session was recorded in a studio for Associated (radio) Transcriptions, June 15, 1944. It first appeared on an lp for the Jazz Archives label.
A great chance to hear Edmond Hall, a fine clarinetist who never got the attention he deserved.
Amen to that!

Love Teddy, such beauty in his playing
Thank You.... My favorite version of "Lady Be Good"...
With two of my favourite musicians here in the shape of Teddy Wilson and Edmond Hall, you couldn't go wrong
His playing is so swinging & the left hand just wonderful. His up tempos w/ Goodman were unreal. Love this guy's playing so much.
I'm with you there!
Thanks Billy Ponzio
Thanks a ton for sharing. Teddy is my man. And all his cats are great swingers too

He's the best, to bad that today's american don't understand jazz and great musicians like Mr Wilson, let alone appreciate it.
They haven't heard of him for many, many generations!

ottimo swing con un po' di dixieland: piacevolissimo il brano "A Touch Of Boogie Woogie"
Had to roll it back twice for that Slam Stewart bass solo@17;53.
Oh yeah, Slam was something else! Singin an bowin, all at the same time.
Edmond!
