How about Alansonson as a name ? Plus if god forbid you loose this one, the next one could be Alansonsonson
You clearly were a tonguestwister champion in a previous life. Some of is were not. 😂😂
This is the best idea, Alansonson, you definitely won't lose any more if you have to add son on the end every time.😅
Alanson 2?
And Alansonbro ?
Alalanson
You just got ten new follows from boat specification video enthusiasts.
Alansonson, tiny whiny puffy boat, alan's rubber, Alan's stepchild, gray GIANT, Yorkshire tea express, mighty rubber duck! , T.E.A the elegant Alanson, Hercules the icebreaker, penguin pleasure craft, and yes i had a fair amount of wine while writing this.
Now you know how my VO scripts come about.
Spiffing Brit fan ?
How about Rickroll : never gonna give you up🫡
After many minutes of pontificating about the proper knot to use to hold a very heavy fiberglass dinghy in very very strong winds, my crew took great pleasure when someone looked behind us and noticed we were missing the dingy. Until their death, that was a regular tease. Love the channel.
Cheers
The glorious inflatable Alansdotir
Speaking from experience, the webbing holding the front tow ring will rupture on heavy repeating load. Strongly suggest you tie a rope from the side rings and connect to the front ring. So that when (not if) it fails you still have 2 connections to the inflatable.
Some of the fishing boats down by me in the Gulf of Mexico, also have a spring on their towlines. Not all of them, but the ones that are over 35 foot but under 50 foot mostly. The ones over 50 foot have their inflatables in davits over the transom, and the fishing boats under 35 foot are basically large bass boats and don't pull an inflatable normally that I've seen.
@@greylocke100 ive also seen ropes with the latex/elastic tubes in the core on some as well
@@DuckyFuzzer like a car towing cable?
@@johnvanhal2450 similar to those or the quick docking lines ya
Certainly the plan.
How about Alansdóttir?
I see that I’m not the only one who instantly wanted to suggest Alansonson for the name. However, I also think that AlanLad might also be a good name
I suspect having a verbal altercation with you online would be quite entertaining for all parties but the instigator. Keep up the great work! youtube domination is just around the corner. Let us know when the tanks are running low and we will chip back into the fuel fund!!! Happy sailing!!!
Cheers Greg - it's the marina fees that are starting to bite!
Came here to suggest Alansonson, saw it already suggested, so, clearly that's the correct answer :)
Another good episode. Your greatest seamanship skill is introspection. As the saying goes “fair weather never a good sailor made”. Your ability to learn from your challenges will ensure you become skilled and experienced. Keep up the great development and the entertaining episodes 👍
Cheers
Big fan of how they put the bottom at the bottom, good design choice, should help keep the water on the outside.
"Two sets of oars: four, in total." Or "Foars", perhaps.
I see "Alansdottir" has already been suggested for the Talamex - I like it. I'd also like to propose "Steve", if I remember the original shouting-groundhogs video correctly...
The Talamex looks like a nice little tender - tough and reliable. In the interest of avoiding another loss, is there a reason not to lash the tender on to the stern face of Alan's cockpit when under way in heavy seas? It seems like that would be a much more reliable attachment, and while it would block the aft hatch I've never seen you use said hatch under way. I'm no sailor, though, so there may be a reason I don't know.
You have my vote for Steve!
Add another vote for Steve.
Or if this is just a temporary replacement tender then this one could be
"Not Alan" or "Not Alansøn"
I do need to retain stern hatch access, but once the platform is up this winter, more options.
A well made 3 point bridle is what you need to make, that is 3 pieces of rope coming into one point, loop, shackle so that they put equal pressure on each towing rings. Nice dinghy by the way, good choice.
Cheers on both fronts
Since Alanson was lost on a 3-hour tour, how about "Skipper" for the new inflatable after actor Alan Hale's famous role.
Wasn't the Skipper's real name Aloysius Grumby? Nope, just checked it was Jonas Grumby. Could always call the skiff Grumby. Though I like Limpet I saw up towards the top.
My thought always immediately goes to The Incredible Mr. Limpet with Don Knotts. Love that movie.
@@donaldshockley4116 Thank you, I could not for the life of me remember the name of that film.
You could also go for a more direct nod to the "three hour tour", and call it the Minnow, or perhaps the Minnow V, since the in-universe there was already Minnows I - IV.
Hello Alex, I am really enjoying following your trip north, well documented and narrated, I think "Limpet" would be a good name for the little boat in the hope it sticks with you!! Best wishes.
Dont forget your Limpet 😅
That is a good name. HP reference Trevor.
I agree with Limpet. Unless you think Barnacle would be better.
While that is a cute name, Alansonson has my vote.
Barnacle is good, but harder to spell, haha.

Tender name suggestion: go Norwegian old school… Alansdatter.
For me the finish of your videos the in m perception "abrupt" "Bye" is really a personal recognizable like branding sign. I like it very much :-) and I really appreciate the new dingi.
I'm buying a lifeboat and I recently found your content. I thought I'd binge-watch to catch up. First, Alena would be a good name for your tender. Second, although you're likable enough, binge-watching you is not possible. You have however made me rethink my plan of picking Larry (named after a cat I had) up in Long Island and sailing through the Great Lakes and down the Mississippi River all while sorting things out. Maybe I could film it all and release it as a comedy. Cheers. Mark
MacAlan. You're in the right part of the world, and it means "Son of Alan"
Congratulations on the 50.000 followers! 🎉
Cheers
You know it has to be Alansonson. Good to hear the horn has been fixed.
Honk.
I wanted to thank you for making videos that helped me through some bad times
Well if that's so, I'm very happy.
@@AlexHibbertOriginals omg you do read all the comments no saying I didn't believe you. I've had a question for some time, is there a reason why you don't try to get more speed out of Allen? Is it his haul design that limits the speed or the fuel economy?
Thank you.
You are awesome from San Jose CA Cheers
Kyle
Cheers Kyle. Yes, the displacement hull has a speed limit sadly! He'd need to climb over his bow wave, or get longer, to go faster.
ye i forgot the other day you got other forms of electricity generation and got really worried for you. cause this is one of, if not the best series i've watched. your response made me realise you really do read all the comments.
Cheers!
I think you should call the new dinghy Al. It’s shorter than Alan after all
For a moment I thought, A. rtificial I. ntelligence. 😁
I vote "50 Shades of Spray" for the new dingy. :)
Alanson could not resist the lure of the open seas.... fair winds Alanson... for a name, "Ingeborg"
i noticed at time point 9:54 you show your mast stay and the associated cable stays. it looks like you need a different bracket for the mast connection. The way you have it connected is inducing a twisting motion on the mount that might result in the failure of that mount. Congrats on the new inflatable, looks very well made. Thanks for talking us on the adventure with you. -dano
Really enjoying this series Alex
Great to see a replacement for Alanson
Dear Sir , liking your documentary progress. Sorry to hear about your tender, I have a suggestion for your new tender ( it seems to have a friendly face) ... how about "Allena'son" may she bring you GOOD Luck ;)
I'm here to comment that I acknowledge that you read all comments. As I have commented with questions or plain comments with answers to all.
Morning from Melbourne Australia 🦘🐍. I enjoy your shows.😃
Cheers. Less of the snakes. More of the 'roos.
Really enjoy your chaotic, extremely funny, witty and well thought out videos. The witty humor gets me always laughing. And I’m so excited for
Ok that’s all for now
Concerned about the diagnosis of psychosis, but cheers!

Now I know you’re reading comments :) well done mate you real legend. Better be safe than sorry.

Thumbs Up for achiveing TH-cam fame the hororable way
Love the commentary. Great shots of the handles. 🙂
Handles maketh man.
That was a fun watch.Thank you 👍
Tiny Alan. That is all I have to offer. 😀
I'm suggesting Lana as the name, for obvious reasons.
From Wikipedia:
" .. origins include the Irish Gaelic ailin, meaning 'little rock'. The name's use in Irish probably derives from the phrase a leanbh, which was used to call a child.[citation needed] In Hawaiian it means 'calm as still waters' or 'afloat'."
In anticipation of all the front rings failing, how about "Wilson"?
Great job! Sail on.
Keep up the great work mate. 🇦🇺
Something that makes tenders a little less fiddley strictly while in port is a stern line. You can then snug it up to your stern like the top of a T and keeps it better secured in hi winds when other boats are near. I also think that while the loss of Alanson is regrettable, after growing up on boats I can tell you sadly sometimes it happens. You forget to tie it tight, a rope snaps, other equipment fails. It happens. Don’t let anyone beat you up. It happened at a non critical time. Love the videos. Love the Alan stickers. Cheers.
AlansOtherSon is my vote.
Would an electric trolling motor be helpful in maneuvering Alan around the marina? if you get the right one it would detach from Alan and attach to the transom of the new dingy.
Yes indeed when funds allow
Great series of videos, enjoyed them all.
Ona the name of your new tender, perhaps "Klingon", so that you may announce (on occasion) "Klingon's off the starboard / port side Captain". 🤪
Might be a bit predictable and not very imaginative on my part , how about Alanson 2 ? Also , we realise that you're very busy with a lot on your plate , so i'm sure the vast majority of your viewers do not expect you to engage with every person that comments here . Just keep up the amazing work you're doing , and the best of British .
Cheers
Wilson
as in the ball from the movie “castaway”
I think the new tender is pretty cool, actually. A real transom!
Did the video make the transom clear?
I'm glad you got a new tender. Maybe name him Aladdin. 😁
your tender pump and fittings look like usual Stand Up Paddle stuff, which might be useful information during an emergency. And it probably means that there is a cap you can open on your pump so that it become single effect with a dead up stroke to save your back when the pressure starts to build up in the boat.
Either Alanson II or Alansdottir!
My vote for new inflatable name is floaty mcfloat face. I joke but I am seriously jealous of you and the amazing journey you are taking. Cheers.
Cheers
Hi, i really like your style of videos. Just go on this way! I would suggest "Belan" as the name for your dinghy. If this decides to seperate from you too, you can name the next boat "Celan", "Delan" and so on ;-)
Cheers
How about Alansdaughter or Alansonsister. Keep up the great videos. Great to see your honesty and learning so ignore the haters!
Good bye Alanson 😊
Nansen. I gave the same name to my toy husky bought at the Fram museum in Oslo. A great man, sadly disregarded by the Amundsen/Scott debate. Your Nansen would likely get further north than mine who mostly sits in a marina next the Irish sea and you might score the odd free round over in Norway. Skål 🐶
A great man, but I find naming things after him pretentious.
Pleasantries and good cheer mate. Perhaps a good tender name is Helen. :)
Name suggestion: "boomerang" so it comes always back. Not that serious, but why not have some fun.
Aren't they weapons of war?
The new tender "Love Me"
I would join your crew in a heartbeat (I'm probably even qualified...at least in US waters) and I'm going to be in the UK next week. However, my better half would disown me if I spent our vacation bouncing along the English coast in a lovingly refurbished lifeboat. Alas I will have to continue to follow along on TH-cam and AIS. Cheers!
You'll be along with us vicariously, and with an intact marriage.
How about Alanson II, or Alanson MKII or something simple like that.
usually the order of inflation is important, as there are baffles between the inflation zones mean that if the pressure relief valve drops some the baffles move and "de-pressure" the whole boat to an extent.
I’ve seen a few people towing their dinghies stern first, with the transom partially raised out of the water. As towing eyes are generally a weak spot it seems logical to lift/tow the dinghy using the strongest part. This can also help with a crosswind where light dinghies have a tendency to flip over.
I'd need to get pro advice on this before trialling.
Great videos, I am learning the ropes also and wish I was more experienced on boats to offer help as crew! good luck to the new tender "Alanis"?
New boat:
“Favorite Son”
Consider naming your new tender "little bandit"
Thanks sir. Another great recap. Question, as a matter of redundancy would it make sense to add an extra tow line to the stern vertical board to reduce stress on the bow line tie point? Wishing you and your teammates a blessed week, gentle seas, seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings. Peace brother
It certainly would
So if you decide to mount an outboard engine, I would suggest staying away from petrol ones. Not because there's anything wrong with them - but because now you have to carry petrol as well. That leaves electric and diesel. Most of these come from Chinese brands and I have no idea how dependable they'd be in the arctic, but, it gives you an option besides oars. Electric you could charge via a cable while underway, while diesel you could just use fuel from the main tanks. The smallest diesel outboard I've found is 8 horsepower, though, and that might be too big for such a small craft. The good news is that 8hp might actually be able to move Alan in an emergency, whereas anything smaller wouldn't do much. Or, oars.
No harm intended.
I am just so exited by Neander Diesel.
But that is probably overkill.
And just over 150kg.
@@louisfkoorts5590 I believe that Alan's main engine is 48 or 55 horsepower. So yes a 50hp outboard is probably excessive for the tug! Seems like an amazing engine, though.
Definitely going electric when funds allow Paul.
The little boat should be called Alison 👍
I think mine are the comments that dont make sense, I have an excuse . 🤣
Lost Alanson. interesting video 2x👍
I was talking about comments on facebook over tea, some people are just stark raving mad, just because you dont know and will never meet someone is not a excuse to be rude.
Fun though.
I too vote for Alansonson. It just seems to fit...
Well, Alansðottir maybe? After all, boats are classically referred to as a 'she'.
Keep up the spirit, I love your work, Alex!
Hi alex i live in Hartlepool just subscribe to your channel i have followed you on your journey so far would love to meet you and alan, me and my 12 year old daughter both follow the ais its a shame you weren't here for the tall ships. We know were you a breathed would be great to meet up, also my grandad was a boat builder back in the years.
I'll be there at some point this coming week. Email me via my website and I can let you know.
@@AlexHibbertOriginals will do many thanks takecare.
Nala.
That's your new dinghy's name.
Alan's Behind
I'd definitely upgrade that pump with a auto cut off electric one, set your poundage and sit back and relax, same everytime.
This is my one Excellent ---- Sevylor - 12V High Pressure Electric Pump
Thanks - will look
I would suggest a name of "Newson" for the new tender.....after all, there is a good chance Alanson will show up again and be returned, and we would'nt want him to feel deflated, discovering he had been replaced with another vessel carrying a similar namesake.
Best wishes, really enjoying the series and adventure. Hope to visit you when you reach Stonehaven.
Alas, even if recovered, he's likely to be in quite a state, and legally would belong to the insurance company.
merci
Hi Alex, love your videos and your style of narration, you mentioned in this video you need a tender for safety, but Allan is a life boat, is the need for a tender a legal requirement or for your own peace of mind? I'm really interested in your reason.
Kind regards Stephen from Australia 👍
No legal need, but useful for anchoring off beaches, and if there's a fire.
Generally speaking hypalon is a more durable and easily repaired fabric when compared to PVC which is a cheaper and less durable fabric.
Also don't use the single bow eye if you are going to tow it behind again. Spread the load from the two side ones, on to the middle one, then on to Alan.
It's mainly UV durability that drew people to Hypalon, mitigated by use of a cover. People do tend to treat their tenders like rubbish and then get surprised when they fail. Hypalon is rarer nowadays after DuPont changed course, and Talamex have a high grade PVC that is apparently worth it.
Use of side tow rings - yes.
How Alan's sister alana .... 😊 ... Great video ... keep on doing your thing ...
Talon!
Rhymes.
Is cool.
Alanson 1². Hopefully the weather actually does what the reports say. I live near the puget sound in Washington state, we have very erratic weather patterns here that can be very unpredictable. I am currently in the wiring stage on my acquired 30' sailboat myself. I cant wait to see the views of Scotland when you get there. Good luck and safe travels.
Use of superscript seems apt.
Another great episode, safe trip up north. Where are you planning to do your work? Peterhead marina is very good and very reasonable standing etc
Yes I hope to end up there, but so far no replies to my emails...
I want to start a conspiracy that Alanson did not break loose but was instead kidnapped by boat traffickers! But Alanson is w scrappy one and is biding his time until he can escape!
Optimism.
Have to agree with your approach on sub par and just plain abusive comments. Far too many seems to think hiding behind a computer and being an a$$ is great fun. I applaud your desire to "bite back".
Hey Alex,
Love your content!!! Please keep it up! I have some spare time over the next few months as I start a new job in November. I've been a sailing instructor for 7 years, have my powerboat level 2 and day skipper qualification and would absolutely love to come on a trip with you for a leg of the journey. Please do reach out if you would like an extra pair of hands. I can bring supplies for an egg, bacon and black pudding bap if that helps sweeten the offer.
Cheers - do send an email via website and we can chat.
Good to see you got the tender situation sorted.
I think for passage hauling at least the front one third of the boat out of the water and firmly lashed to Alan’s posterior reduces drag significantly . Clearly chafe protection is key.
I know you are a busy chap and pursue the more cerebral YT channels - but please have a look at ‘Alluring Artic’ a young finish couple making their way up t’North. Their last two or three videos have been particularly spectacular - especially the hairy arsed skiing.🤣👍
Yes I watch their channel.
The drag when towing the dinghy fully in water it must may cost perhaps even 0.5-1,5 knots in speed and also increase fuel consumption. Maybe a speed test is in place with and without towing dinghly using equal RPM. As suggested maybe keeping tight and off the water as much as possible or even tying it dry to some suitable spot in stern would be good solution.
Inflatable manufacturers should produce boats that can be inflated in emergency quickly but also filled with regular pump when you are not in a hurry. Then you could keep the boat stowed on deck or inside.
May I suggest "Alannino" Nino is Spanish for child and el nino is a storm. Or McAlan son of Alan Or O'Alan :)
I hope those flip flops make it to the Arctic. :)
Falan because it follows alan
Those hand pumps are great for inflatables. Just keep the internal piston o-ring/seal extra greasy. If it dry's out it chews up the seal and makes pumping a chore.
Good tip
If you fully inflate the chamber with the pressure relief valve first, the adjoining sections will billow somewhat into the uninflated connected chambers, then inflate the connected chambers. Done like this, any overpressure causing a release from the single relief valve effectively reduces the pressure in all connected chambers, to a point. The air decks can handle a lot of pressure, they are the same sort of structure as inflatable paddle boards. The keel tube is somewhat protected from the heat by being under the deck and close to the water. Be careful of chafe between the deck and tubes, dirt and grit are your enemy there.
Good tips
You must have the patients or a saint. 😂😂. Sir Alex, Slayer of trolls..... How about naming the tender "NALA"? 👍
No patience. But I have wine.
English summer for the Name of your little boat
Arise, Son of Alanson.
Have you considered mounting a pole on the stern that could be used to tie up Son of Alanson? Could make boarding and embarking from the stern easier too.
A proper (overdue) stern platform is inbound.
