  • 2023 MAY 04 73°F -- Barcelona's holiest place, Catedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulàlia, aka Barcelona Cathedral. Dedicated to the city's patron saint, Saint Eulalia, a 13yo girl tortured 13 times by the Roman forcing her to renounce her faith. A 14th century Gothic church with a Neo-Gothic facade. Very different from Sagrada Familia. This church is a Gothic gem, while Sagrada is Modernist wonder. A grand "antiquated" cathedral but not as exciting as Sagrada. A beauty in its own right for its richly decorated chapels, finely carved choir, tombs of Saint Eulalia and charming cloister with gurgling fountain and sunbathing geese. Other areas to visit: A rooftop terrace to get a panoramic view of the city. A museum showcasing the church and its significance in the history of Barcelona. Overall, a worthy visit for just 9-euros a person.

Manuel, in Barri Gòtic, oldness is beauty. It is one of its key features, being one of the city's oldest neighborhoods, dating back to Roman times, and is characterized by its narrow, winding streets, medieval architecture, and rich cultural heritage. Barcelona Cathedral is a well-preserved historical landmark within Barri Gòtic. The entire quarter, including Barcelona Cathedral, exudes unique ancient charm and intriguing mystique, captivating many visitors every year. Although it's not designated as a UNESCO site, it remains a significant historical and cultural area in Barcelona, rich with medieval architecture and historical landmarks.
