One of the great pieces in all of Rossini’s Operas, IMO & an unusual departure from much of his other music. Siepi & company do full justice to this sublime music.
Who was in his performances 1974 when Siepi sung first and never more Mose in Venice? I was !!! Siepi looked not good, because he had big trouble with Shyler Shapin at the Met.
Yes. What happened there? It always mystified me that Siepi left the Met in 1973 and yet his voice was still in its prime for another decade. The first time I heard him on one of the radio broadcasts was the 1971 Don Giovanni and I've loved his voice ever since.
@@achmedmohamed4708 I can see why he would be upset. Diaz was a fine bass-baritone but he certainly didn't have the gravitas that Siepi would have brought to the role. It seems like every new manager the Met had would get rid of some of the stars from the previous administration. Bing fired Melchior and Traubel and Chapin brought in his own favourites as well.
@@verdiguy I know this from my friend Jim Coffey from New York. Shyler Shapin took a lot of second and third row singers into the front line. But it did not work.

Shyler Shapin gave the part of Procida in Vespri to Justino Diaz.
This made Siepi very angry.

TRAUMHAFT
Siepi and?
And Celestina Casapietra.
The complete cast I will give you next.
Much too slow. Unusual for Gavazzeni who usually keeps thingsoving.
