- How to get a SENSORED brushless motor working underwater. But BEWARE! Running your RC model in water is dangerous and will likely break it. The following SHOULD NOT BE ATTEMPTED without fully understanding the dangers. Kiss your warranty goodbye and possibly a lot of your electrics.
Done with the disclaimer? SCX10 in a bath 8-) Katness & Peeta have a break from the interrogation of Strider and take a trip to the 4WheelRC aquatic testing facility, to put the waterproofed Axial AX9002: SCX-10 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Builders Kit through its paces.
In the next part of the build series we get back to the bodyshell!...

Everything else below is 'Plastidip city', but beware using that on your ESC if you are going completely under water (it is hard to get a 100% seal around the heatsink, down all the wires etc.). if u ask me its not worth all this just go brushed smoother control too
brandon christian I run a Tekin 55T brushed on another rig and agree that brushed motors are very smooth. But can tell you that having moved to a Tekin RS Gen 2 ESC and ROC412 motor (I'll cover this in a future video) it is just as good, but you get efficiency and low maintenance benefits with brushless. Not to mention that no amount of muddy water will affect my sealed brushless set-up. The only downside as I see it is the $$$ :-(
i also run a 55t and get hrs of runtime and enough wheel speed with stock gearing, I have heard good things about the ROC412 and I look forward to the vid, you did a good job water proofing this setup.
brandon christian Thanks Brandon. Tbh I have learnt a lot since then and especially the limitations of Plastidip. It is epoxy resin all the way for me now, with Plastidip just used for connectors. I'll be posting a detailed how-to epoxy the Tekin ESC & motor when I get some time to edit my video backlog 8-)
I use liquid tape for a lot of stuff not really to water proof just splash proof as I don't run in water much but ill have to look into the epoxy as a waterproofing.
Before this gets going... I'm in the first 3 minutes... I'm concerned. You lifted the Truck off of the Bathtub (Sorry, test facility!). When you placed it back down, onto its Wheels - I didn't see the Shocks compress - AT ALL!! With all that extra WEIGHT! I hope your Shocks are OK. A Standard SCX10 with 1 Batry, should droop the Suspension at LEAST 8mm. Yours remained at the top of their travel. 😱😱😱😱
Now I realise that this was 4 years ago... but I hope you've got THAT sorted by now!!!
BTW, your Electronics Skills are extraordinary!

you need to pull the end bell then waterproof the board and you'll be set

what kind of transmitter is that? is it a spektrum?
Hey Andrew. That is an OrangeRX 'T-Six' transmitter from HobbyKing.com. It was okay but did not work with the LED controllers due to it's 'frame rate' So since then I have switched to a Turnigy 9XR (with an OrangeRX DSM2 module), also from HobbyKing.com. The 9XR is awesome and has so many options :-)
