Navdi looked decent until I saw it was $500. That is ridiculous! I wouldn't pay half that much for a device that uses my phone to do most of the work. For that price not only should it NOT depend on my phone, but it should also wax my car at least once a week. Screw that. I will wait for the prices to come down, which they definitely will.
Stev A , stop at a gas station And buy a paper map for $1.99 and foolow your brain to your location is what I say like people have been doing since 1900. oh wait, people caint think without their phones anymore, I forgot, my bad

Garmin used to make a unit like that. It was descent as your phone blue toothed to it and it used fluorescent light to project the image. The cost was only 150.00 but Garmin discontinued it.
I have the Navdy and I paid the Pre-Order price, but the normal cost is pretty costly. The software is still Beta. I do like it, but it's also missing features I'd like to see. I have a windshield mount for my phone and just using a app like WAZE or Navagon or whatever, works pretty good. Just know to use voice more then trying to stare at the phone screen. A HUD can still be distracting.
Ok so I went to the website to see if these where out yet as I seen this advert last year. Still not out also they look nothing like the advertisement? 2 questions. When will it come out and 2. Will it look as is displayed in this advertisement because on your website looks totally different?
If these could project the image at infinity as is the case with OEM HUD systems then I might be interested. Otherwise there's no benefit as you have to re focus to see the HUD image anyway.
Some of these are expensive. I don't want to use my phone for GPS navigation (too much of a drain on battery and god knows how much data it will use up). Why can't someone make a portable GPS navigation device (such as a Garmin) with one of these HUD displays? Attach the Garmin (instead of your phone) to the device and project to the windshield, or use one of those clear screens. I guess I'm in the minority of not being glued to my phone 24 hours a day.
As freeride9tv said, gmaps doesn't use that much data. I have been using it for some time now, with 1GB/month data, and its working great. One thing to note is that once you load the route you don't need any more data, just gps (ofc if you take the wrong route you will need data for new route then). As for battery, i have my phone plugged to my charger, just as any gps needs to be plugged in if you want to use it for any good amount of time... ****With this said, I totally agree that a GPS navigation device which works with HUD's would be a very nice product to use instead of the regular LCD ones.****

so once we're running low on fuel, iScout ditches the route to top up? what if I'm nearly there and I have enough but don't know the rest of the route?
The problem with all of the HUDs that are available for cars now is that pretty much all car dashboards are curved and all HUDs are designed to sit on a flat surface.
But you say local updates. So does it does not independently update with live traffic? Can it tie in with my other smart phone functions for the Carlday?
Googlefluff857 And then you can control what it displays with controls on the wheel, the engineers will make it more seamless with the design and function of the car. Also I am afraid how accurate the MPH display is with these third party things. I've seen dash cam footage where it really lags behind the current speed. That'd be a problem if you ever need to footage to settle a dispute.
Googlefluff857 , exactly. they are all to damn small anyways. my uncle has a Z06 Corvette with a heads up display, it was built into the car at the factory
Isn‘t it contraproductive that you focus more on the display infos because you feel safe as if you had to turn the head and would look away for a shorter period, If you see your music playlist on the head up, you wanna scroll it and boum accident
Guys, car Huds are expensive and we all know that. I mean, the optional huds on a Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, etc... cost WAY more than these aftermarket ones. But yeah sure, they work better and that is because those huds were built FOR the vehicle. These aftermarket ones are universal. Don't cheap out of quality, it will ruin you in the long run.
So the 1) HUDFIY is your cellphone in front of your face. In an accident, which is going to get to you first, the cellphone or the airbag? Or will your phone puncture the airbag? One thing's for sure, your cellphone is dust. 2) iSCOUT is huge. With that giant wart on top of my instrument binnacle I would be more inconvenienced and annoyed than assisted. 3) NAVDY is also too large. Having that as a distraction in front of me - nope. And is Tweeting while driving THAT important to you? I'd think the less distraction to observing what is ahead of you - the better. 4) CARLOUDY - The guy starts his ad by saying, "Tapping away on my cellphone screen seems like a bad idea" - YA THINK?! - But the unit is small, and seems the right size as not to be a distraction. That said, it's too dim - and no matter he says it's not - it is. Saying "Carloudy this and Carloudy that" - I don't think so 5) EXPLORIDE - From the ad, which by the way - has the loudest most awful background music I have ever heard, "We want you to stay safe on the road, imagine having your messages read to you without disturbing you - Enjoy the handsfree environment and call your loved ones without even using your phone" - The driver swipes a motion in front of the Exploride THEN PICKS UP HIS PHONE TO WATCH SKYPE VIDEO OF THE CALLER! - Now if that isn't the dumbest thing you'll see today! Ad ends with, "Stay Safe, Stay Connected L :) L if it were't so sad - comment below. - PEACE .
For ages, we drive without these gadgets and we still able to get from point A to point B. If the gas is low, we can see it on the car dash board. Honestly, why do we even need this?
Video is bad with so many interference we couldn't concentrate on the message. Remove music and all other sounds and ONLY leave the speaker. Too many guys giving opinion how good it is is more disturbing. Give us more detail how it work with clear accent instead of all that jazz. I would not buy now till I see a good video.
Well I have tested one and they are all the same thing in one way or another. But be warned all the examples and tests are shown in videos are filmed closer than you will be to the unit. The speedometer app the speedometer will be much smaller in reality than shown in most if not all videos. Because it can only be the size of the width of the phone screen So if the width of your phone is 2 and 3/4 inches Your speedometer will be 2 and 3/4 inches square. Well a bit smaller. Some may find that a little too small . But I have found the heads up for maps works quite well. It takes a little getting used to , But the question remains if their is a voyce telling you in good time .what direction to go and what turns to take along with alarms going off if you go over the speed limit . Then the heads up thing seems a bit more of a gimmick than a necessity. So I won't be using it a lot. Give me a good solid phone holder that wont send your phone flying towards you at 60mph. Should the worst happen , People putting hundreds of dollars worth of phone on a 20 dollar piece of plastic held on by a bit of none slip rubber. Thanks but no thanks
Top 5? IT starts with number 4? And HUD is not meant for you use telephone when driving. You can only use your mind for 1 things at the time. Use a HUD for important data as Speed, fuel and such things. Make the phone call when you are parked.
Jesus, what happened to defensive driving and aware of your surroundings? In the future will they come with a HUD kill display or that long beep as a "lock on" a kill target? LOL
I can't believe you put units in the top 5 that do not project the image. You should put an advisory, only use at night because the brightest phone cannot project an image in bright daylight that is adequate or even safe to use. And who wants to put their phone on the windshield in the bright sunlight and hot dashboard. These units should be eliminated immediately. Even Navdy has an alarm when the windshield gets too hot.......maybe they can be used in Alaska or Siberia!
Any videos featuring native HUDs? That is, HUDs designed and installed by the manufacturer as a built-in part of the car. Not interested in these 3rd party add-ons.
I'm working to see what cars have this option, i know some BMW have them from the factory, and probably other manufactures as well, i'll get a video up soon
Agreed. I think HUDs are great when they're well-built. I've never seen an aftermarket HUDs that wasn't as big a distraction as it was a help. I'm hoping Dodge starts putting them in their Chargers/Challengers before too long. Ditto Ford with their 'stangs.
Do you know what information is displayed on an aircraft's HUD? Air speed, altitude, pitch, climb rate, etc. It displays only critical information that is _necessary_ to operating the vehicle. None of these tell me the information that I really need, like exhaust gas temperature, transmission fluid temperature, fuel pressure, oil temperature and pressure, etc. This is one of the problems today. Iscout sounds mighty dangerous to me....phone apps like text whats app etc should NOT be available while you are driving. Simple speed and perhaps navigation is all they should have.
Pontiac Grand Prix had speed, radio, temp on HUD. The ridiculous toys in this video are a joke. I wouldn't install one if they were FREE, nevermind $500 lol
ABSOLUTELY not with their price tags of $299 to $499. Most modern cars have this in their console or you can buy an infotainment with it plus you get the car stereo party of it. Not worth it.

ALL OF THESE 5 ARE A BIG FAIL! No No No. All that is needed is a very small footprint OBD II Speed only projection. These are all as ridiculous today as a massive 50 Inch Tube TV from the 1980's.
