The most informative video available. I had my own ideas about this repair. Began to use the same technique, but was halted and told I would rip the motor mounts into. Not enough tolerance. I’ve seen guys do all but use a torch to cut the Bastard out between the Frame rails. Great work!!
it only needs a fraction of an inch to come out. The mounts are rubber and it will move as demonstrated in the video. Its not abusive at all. The mounts stretch to the "stops" every time you accel, or decel or other "stuff".

You are the man ! I have the same tool , about to replace mine on my 00 ALH . Looks like it will fit but most likely will be disconnecting motor mount and jacking the engine up . Ina is the way to go. Nice hot day for it too
4:00 Pro tip: wear eye protection before opening the screws at the bottom. You'll get loads of small gravel and dirt into your eyes really easy here while removing the bottom plastic parts.
Hi! Great video, learned alot. Question though. I'm trying to diagnose my alternator pulley without removing it from the car. I do not have a belt (Volvo 3.2) . When I turn off the car, should it come to a dead stop (the alternator) or should it spin a few seconds? (I thought this was the point with the pulley to not put to much stress on the alternator) thanks!

Installation is the opposite of disassembly. Wrench on wrench would be fine. How tight? Every day mechanics use intuition to tighten bolts. Not everything needs a torque wrench. If you want the "scientific" term its "gud-en-tite" (that's German for good 'n tight.) Thanks for watching my video. I hope it helps you fix your car.
0:57 The engine will slow down and accelerate in all internal combustion engines. That's the reason you need the flywheel in the first place! Diesel engines just make the effect more pronounced because of the higher compression.

I have a 2008 lexus rx350 v6 2gr-fe.. From my understanding, some pulley LH threads and some are RH threads. Bought a new Litens OEM with no manual. Do you know which way toyota/lexus pulley need to go for loosening ?
most engines turn clockwise so to prevent loosening the pulley would thread the other way. If your lexus engine is on the right side of the car then your engine will turn clockwise (or just look at it runnning). If it turns clockwise I'll bet the pulley "unthreads" counter clockwise.
Tomorrow is the day for me. I have just broken the belt. Pulley in the trunk from many many months ago... I am afraid about that lack of tolerance to take the pulley out with the utils.... I will see if i have luck enough
If the belt broke you may need a tensioner as well. Stay away from the gates brand of tensioner although its usually available easily so if you have to......

Sometimes when something unusual happens like this I have to ask my self, " what is the stupidest thing" I could have done?" Left something unplugged, knocked the timing belt out of time, ect.
I’ve just been told on a service by main Skoda dealer that the pulley cap has come off and allowed grease into the area , they are trying to charge me for a new alternator , the crooks
At 2:08 of your video, you just start removing bolts from a part but you never state or tell your audience what it is that you're doing. Duh. For those of us amateur mechanics and DYIers that is not familiar with the part you are removing, can you agree it would have been a great deal of helpful information to actually state and and describe what you are doing before you are actually doing it with the video having not specific narration describing what you are doing and the name of the part you are removing?
Take a look , watch the video. I think you could figure out that I'm removing the fuel filter for access to the Alt pulley. I'll try to do better since it is a DIY video aimed at Diy'ers.

I had to loosen my right side engine mounts to get the needed clearance but otherwise, it worked just as you said. Thanks for the video!

when in doubt, pull the mount.

All diesels have it. Some gas ones have it.

5:20 Some cars have so little space here that you have to remove the alternator to get even the tool into the pulley.
none that I've ever seen. Now when the thing is seized up you have to pull the Alternator.

yes, or at least the pulley needs to be held still.
otherwise it will freewheel both ways.

I think mine is a combo of this and an intermittent dmf rattle. Sounds like the alternator to me. What's the model of that tool?

I just replaced this part on my 2014 Passat TDI and now the engine cranks but doesn’t start what’s the issue yes it has diesel in it

Supposed to TORQUE it to SPEC. 80 Nm
