This song was first taught by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson on 28 Nissan, 5714 - 1954.

Jews don’t pronounce the holy name of God, except when in the most dire of circumstances (when life hangs in the balance). The commandment of “do not take the Lord’s name in vain” prohibits them from doing so, though there seems to be a time when it was more acceptable, historically. If you’re a Christian, it’s the reason why “the Lord” is in your Bible so many times. They’re translating the actual name of God as “Lord”, per the instructions of the scribes (they wrote the vowels for “Lord” in the name of God- to warn people away from saying the name). Ha’Shem, in Judaism, is considered the best way to address the Lord on a regular basis. It means “The Name”. Though Jews also address him by the title “Adonai” (Lord), and occasionally, “Elohim” (majesty of God) in prayer or song, as well.
