Some nice images there Steve - autumn is looking like it's nearing peak now. I'm not a huge fan of a CPL in the woods, I think it can often give a flat looking image, especially at 100% polarisation. I generally see it as a bit of hack to fix bad light.

Still use a polariser and NDs for long exposures but like you I haven’t carried grads for years. The image at 11 minutes works well imo I know what you mean about it being too central but I think you’ve just got it far enough to the right to make it work. Nice video

Polariser used very rarely and only a 6 stop ND for water in creeks & falls.

You have some lovely pictures there Steve, nice one. Do we need filters well I don't have any only a Pola, and I rarely use that. The way things are going now we may as well not have a camera there are that many AI images around now that soon we can just imagine the pictures that we want and then just press a button! Thanks for your thoughts on filters! Take care....

brilliant images as usual Steve, its not very often I use filters ,a Cpl when needed, and nd for long exposures, that old oak looks brill mate.

IMHO a good polarizer( to avoid reflections) and a few different strenght nd filters( to slow water/clouds) are still usefull filters as they cannot be replicated well by using editing software. A camerabag does not have to be that heavy. For a trip for a week i just pack my camera and 4 batteries , 2 lenses a 16-35 and a 24-105, 4 filters , a tripod , a 6" hotshoe mount monitor , cable release and a few cf cards. The monitor is the best piece of kit i bought recently. It can be tilted and rotated and allows me to photograph at very low and high camera positions as my camera has no flipout screen.

@@HoutmeyersP I agree with the filters, polariser and NDs 👍

Like you, I only really tend to use the polariser. I’ve got ND filters, but don’t tend to have that much need to use them. I probably ought to experiment with them a little more though so maybe something to try out in the right circumstances

Another great video. I am in the use filters camp and have the full selection of hard/soft grads and 4 Strength's of ND filters plus the polariser. But i do go and do seascapes, but saying that i was at Brocton coppice the other day and used my grad filters there too. 🙂

Great images Steve. The majority of my shots are hand held so apart from a CPL, filters are a nuisance. I do carry a couple though out of old habit 😆. I was on Cannock Chase last weekend and yesterday with my camera, on the Western side and the colours yesterday were unreal in places. A slight tinge of mist in spots and sunlight breaking through was stunning. I should have taken the tripod 🤣

You are assuming that everyone has photoshop but many of us do not have the budget for it and must do our best to get it the best we can straight out of camera and filters are essential for us. Do professionals need them probably not.

@@janandjim4442 I agree with you, it is costly but I think to move photography on to the next level post processing is a bit part of photography and well worth the investment. I would rather invest in Lightroom than filters but I do understand 👍
