And even then, it could have been a small cameo and he stays a low rank marine. Even if he was trained by Garp, it didn’t mean he would be relevant. But he’s actually really strong and is highly relevant in the story now. This shit really doesn’t happen much in shonen. Most mangakas make growth and main conflict happen with the main character and his lackeys or with established strong characters. Its relatively rare that a side character that’s barely mentioned in the story becomes strong and becomes highly relevant in later arcs.
