@@ethanrajczak3041 Well, when a reptile like a snake (or in this case, a Deathclaw) uses their tongue, they're using it to smell the air. Yes, they do have noses, but the nose does not know, in this case. A reptile's olfactory system is different than a mammal's, as they have a special organ called the Jacobson's Organ. The reptile would "taste" the air and press their tongue against the roof of their mouth, receiving all the relevant information to their surroundings. As far as it would go for a Deathclaw, their olfactory system would likely remain largely the same as before their mutations, but with the added forked tongue to taste the air.
They should’ve given them independently moving eyes and sticky tongues, that would make them scarier knowing they can see you even if you’re trying to sneak behind it

My favorite experience with Fallout 4 was when I went to the Museum of Witchcraft and found the deathclaw egg...sure I killed the mom but hey? I was standing my ground. But that’s not the end of the story as I returned the egg to its nest because that British robot in Diamond City pissed me off one too many times. Anywho I returned the little creature and what do you know? The daddy deathclaw totally didn’t murder me..it appreciated my actions and we actually came to an understanding! Best mission..ever. And then I left the creature in peace...it’s a good thing that daddy deathclaw couldn’t smell his baby momma’s blood off me..otherwise I’d be in trouble. But no one needs to know that..and That’s the end of that chapter...greatest side quest 10/10
Alpha deathclaws have up to three broodmothers with them in a pack. The game tones it down so you don’t die every single time you raid one of their nests.
They did have fallout tactics but that is closer to early starcraft They should honestly redo it, I wouldnt be opposed to CA working with Bethesda there
Surprising you would bring up the intelligence (and even verbal ability) of a deathclaw, considering the last time we canonically saw that (from what I remember) was Fallout 2!
one part of the jackson Chameleon im glad they didn't keep, the tongue, and its length compared to the body god help the fallout universe if that happens
Watching this on 7/31/2020 and boy that opening spooked me. "As tension rise between the US and China" I was like OH GOD WHEN DID ROANOKE BECOME A NEWS CHANNEL?
The more you look at the body it's definitely easier to see the "designed" aspects, the bony hard armor like protrusions all in places as well that are commonly hit in battle up close, the thighs, the shoulders arms etc. Excited to see about Ellie, I've had my assumptions and hypothesis on that how she's been immune for a while now
Honestly I never comment on videos, but I have to for this one. Your videos, especially this one, help MASSIVELY when I'm writing my story, and other stories in general. Everything you talk about it dope, and super in-depth. Glad my boy recommended your channel to me, cheers
First off, I'm only 1:33 in and I'm so glad you made this video! As for what would go into a Deathclaw as far as the reptilian side, yes, the Jackson Chameleon only because it was specifically mentioned in a previous game, but I could also see how it's mutation could act as a catalyst and a bridge for other mutations. As for the skin, various crocodilians would give it's skin it's sturdy and tough consistency as well as a few species of desert tortoise. The tortoise would also explain it's claws, digging and nesting habits. As for it's temperament, I'm seeing a lot of similarities between the frilled lizard and the goanna. The frilled lizard will just puff itself up, stand on its back legs and run like hell in hopes it scares the crap out of you. If you see through its rouse, it'll run right away in a snap. As for the goanna, it's the closest you'll get to nature's sociopath. These buggers will seriously go into your territory and chase you down. Beyond that, they'll slice you up just to make you bleed and then they'll just keep giving you more holes to bleed from until your running forces you to bleed out and then they got ya. Love these guys cuz they also develop some of the most interesting and odd interspecies relationships, like one who formed a bond with a pregnant pitbull and the two were inseparable.
a few more things to know about the death claw: the death claws armour plates are nearly impervious to small arms, only the un-armoured belly of the creature and it's eyes are weak points. death claws appear to not have a way to compensate for an injured leg. death claws do NOT HUNT in packs. they do live in packs, but each member goes out by itself to hunt, running into more than one death claw outside a den is very rare. pack hunters, which have little regard for the safety of the individual (such as the tunnelers), can overpower a death claw with little effort. death claws are also mostly suited for fighting smaller creatures and can be seen struggling against creatures that have enough strength to throw them off balance. a yao guais rush down can easily end deadly for a death claw.
@@valdatnergigante3439 they swarm it so quickly that the death claw doesn't have a chance and since the death claws aren't smart enough to abuse the fact that tunnelers can't attack while running, they almost never survive.
Fun fact regarding wolfpacks-the scientist who coined the term "alpha" after observing wolves in zoos, was able to later observe them in the wild, and it turns out, a typical wolfpack is in essence an extended family. The alphas are just the breeding mother and father with adult or adolescent children.
2:52 Note, decimate translates to destroy by a factor of 1/10 or 10%. I know it’s a small thing but I can’t help but feel a deathclaw would do more than decimate those who stand against it.
You know what's interesting? in Fallout 2, you meet a pack of Death Claws in Vault 13 that can mimic human speech, and have fairly decent intelligence. This pack kinda act like care takers, finding people who are hurt or lost with no place to go, they take them in and look after them. Unexpectedly wholesome really, sadly they were exterminated by the Enclave
Thank you! Noticed this video just when I was looking for something below the 15 minutes frame to watch before leaving for nightshift! And Deathclaws are my favorite creatures in Fallout! Maybe in the future we can see more Fallout creatures? Far Harbor got some nasty ones for sure.

This is my first time finding your channel and after seeing SCPs videos with your overall focus on science and anatomy have won me over! I know I'm just one person but I appreciate your unique approach! Well done!
5:00 bit of a nitpick but wild wolf packs don't actually function along alpha/beta lines. The study that "proved" this was debunked later by the same scientist who wrote it because it was only done on captive wolves, where the stress of captivity changed their behavior. Normal wolf packs are more of a family unit, run by the "parents".
Roanoke Gaming Aight yeah dark souls is more fantasy than science so i can see that not happening but the witcher is more scientific than fantastical so i think it would be perfect
Altogether an excellent breakdown. Keep up the good work. A few points you missed: With the extra thick skin, how can a deathclaw dissipate excessive heat? Add an increase in size and no obvious way for them to radiate heat the thing is going to cook itself whenever it tries to run more than 100 yrd dash. Once it does burst activity it will have to spend days cooling off. I am sorry but this is just not a viable animal build without aggressive heat dissipation. It would need a sail, like a dimetrodon, even then useful in short bursts of activity only. The only option I can think to overcome this if for it to wallow in mud like a pig or actually be aquatic like a hippo. It would also "swim" like a hippo considering its high density and run on the bottom of the river.

I agree with Roanoke, WHO THOUGHT STARTING WITH CHAMELEONS WAS A GOOD IDEA!?
It was, a new breeding pleasure for tristy males of the wasteland
probably just by yeeting animals into fev, and whatever didnt become a shambling mound of flesh and limbs became a top prospect
These are the same idiots who thought it was a good idea to use FEV on naked mole rats to undermine fortifications
I would have started with an American or Nile Crocodile

Groovy~☆ Glad we're getting around to these beautiful beasties
I want a pet deathclaw. I find their mannerisms to be quite endearing and adorable.
I too find razor sharp claws the length of a human forearm adorable. (Unironically. Weird psychology behind that)
My favorite experience with Fallout 4 was when I went to the Museum of Witchcraft and found the deathclaw egg...sure I killed the mom but hey? I was standing my ground.
But that’s not the end of the story as I returned the egg to its nest because that British robot in Diamond City pissed me off one too many times. Anywho I returned the little creature and what do you know? The daddy deathclaw totally didn’t murder me..it appreciated my actions and we actually came to an understanding! Best mission..ever.
And then I left the creature in peace...it’s a good thing that daddy deathclaw couldn’t smell his baby momma’s blood off me..otherwise I’d be in trouble. But no one needs to know that..and That’s the end of that chapter...greatest side quest 10/10
vellinghem 21 For me it was different, the one who came after me was the dad. Thing was an albino and one guarding the nest was called a Matriarch.
Blue Night you did the mom a favor..the dad was probably an alcoholic.
Yeah, you get a quest marker to turn it in to the daddy. Most quests in fallout of multiple ways of finishing them
Dude spoilers, I haven't played Fallout Deathclaw Edition yet
Alpha deathclaws have up to three broodmothers with them in a pack. The game tones it down so you don’t die every single time you raid one of their nests.
"My Thic Deathclaw" 12:51 interesting. lol

“Total war fallout “, would be amazing.
They did have fallout tactics but that is closer to early starcraft
They should honestly redo it, I wouldnt be opposed to CA working with Bethesda there
They kinda look like the lizzardmen from Warhammer
I'm excited for your future lores too, especially lore involving more Halo lore and Gears lore
Surprising you would bring up the intelligence (and even verbal ability) of a deathclaw, considering the last time we canonically saw that (from what I remember) was Fallout 2!
one part of the jackson Chameleon im glad they didn't keep, the tongue, and its length compared to the body
god help the fallout universe if that happens
Watching this on 7/31/2020 and boy that opening spooked me. "As tension rise between the US and China" I was like OH GOD WHEN DID ROANOKE BECOME A NEWS CHANNEL?
The more you look at the body it's definitely easier to see the "designed" aspects, the bony hard armor like protrusions all in places as well that are commonly hit in battle up close, the thighs, the shoulders arms etc. Excited to see about Ellie, I've had my assumptions and hypothesis on that how she's been immune for a while now
I feel like Fallout 4s Deathclaw model is the way Deathclaws where ment to look.
"Even people in power armor have trouble dealing with them"
Me: *Laughs in explosive minigun*

Love these guys cuz they also develop some of the most interesting and odd interspecies relationships, like one who formed a bond with a pregnant pitbull and the two were inseparable.
a few more things to know about the death claw:
the death claws armour plates are nearly impervious to small arms, only the un-armoured belly of the creature and it's eyes are weak points.
death claws appear to not have a way to compensate for an injured leg.
death claws do NOT HUNT in packs. they do live in packs, but each member goes out by itself to hunt, running into more than one death claw outside a den is very rare.
pack hunters, which have little regard for the safety of the individual (such as the tunnelers), can overpower a death claw with little effort.
death claws are also mostly suited for fighting smaller creatures and can be seen struggling against creatures that have enough strength to throw them off balance. a yao guais rush down can easily end deadly for a death claw.
So they were basically bred to counter humans in all ways
How does a tunnler overpower a frickin deathclaw
@@valdatnergigante3439
they swarm it so quickly that the death claw doesn't have a chance and since the death claws aren't smart enough to abuse the fact that tunnelers can't attack while running, they almost never survive.
@@windhelmguard5295 I thought you were talking about a single one
@@windhelmguard5295 I never really liked the tunnelrs just because of that fact, in reality a deathclaw would rip em all apart:/
Awesome video Roanoke 👍
Glad you enjoyed it bro!
Fun fact regarding wolfpacks-the scientist who coined the term "alpha" after observing wolves in zoos, was able to later observe them in the wild, and it turns out, a typical wolfpack is in essence an extended family. The alphas are just the breeding mother and father with adult or adolescent children.
Exactly
2:52 Note, decimate translates to destroy by a factor of 1/10 or 10%. I know it’s a small thing but I can’t help but feel a deathclaw would do more than decimate those who stand against it.
Would love you to do an in-depth video on space marines and there genrtic/implant modifications and which ones could possibly work irl
Jacob Hanlon you got a fetish there son
Your channel merges both video games and science. Its perfection :D

Altogether an excellent breakdown. Keep up the good work.
A few points you missed:
With the extra thick skin, how can a deathclaw dissipate excessive heat? Add an increase in size and no obvious way for them to radiate heat the thing is going to cook itself whenever it tries to run more than 100 yrd dash. Once it does burst activity it will have to spend days cooling off. I am sorry but this is just not a viable animal build without aggressive heat dissipation. It would need a sail, like a dimetrodon, even then useful in short bursts of activity only. The only option I can think to overcome this if for it to wallow in mud like a pig or actually be aquatic like a hippo.
It would also "swim" like a hippo considering its high density and run on the bottom of the river.
