You should make videos showing what you look for when finding used LS motors and what you do to them. Which ones you guys use, not just the cubic inches but exactly what engines. Been watching you guys a long time.
Oil color is huge, put a socket on the balancer bolt and spin it. If it spins way too easy it may be an issue but if it turns over feeling like you're spinning a piece of glass over sand paper then there is likely an issue. Check sparkplug tips., check to see if their is oil on them or if it looks like oil has been coming out of the exhaust. Pull a valve cover and if everything looks like a carmal color it means they kept the oil changed regularly. It's lot of little things that ypu look at. But it's not very expensive to have a junkyard ls rebuilt.
Easiest way to diagnose that is to switch parts to another cylinder and see if it follows. Only one part at a time. Coil,spark plug,injector etc. hope this helps. When it does not feel like it is dead cylinder lots of time it is a injector. Good luck

While y'all are gone, maybe have the boys do compression and leakdown tests on the donk. A bad valve or seal would cause smoking, crankcase pressure and misfiring. It could be the rings like y'all think might be the case. Maybe the 3 stooges can help narrow things down though.
quick test: swap a known good coil over to the problem hole, like #2 - #6 and see if the miss moves. then you eliminate the coil right off the bat. Crank sensor wiring issue would create a no-start or a random miss-fire .. if after swapping in a known good coil it's still dead on #6 then you've got bad wires to that coil or a mechanically dead hole. compression under about 90-95psi can cause a miss, and not be felt via the finger gauge ;-)

Pull the negative battery post off of the battery.. Put test light between the groung on the battery and the cable.. If it lights up.. Start pulling fuses until it goes out.. That's the fastest way to find your battery draw..
When I was 4 I remember riding in the passenger seat of one of these while my one uncle drove and the other one shot quail and pheasant as we drove down the country road
If the alt was humming and you have a dead battery your sense command on the alt may be stuck on, if you have a vcm it may be commanding alt on at all times if it is in full lockup or full demand when it idles it can bring the idle and car down that is a high output unit and they aren't easy to turn, you should check out brand x alternators there billet series are badass we use them in car audio, I run 27k watts with a single alt and a lot of lithium I have a lot of the experience with gm alts

Hope you get the problem figured out. If it’s a wiring issue, and it sounds like it is, wouldn’t it move around all cylinders. I mean unless it got just wires for that cylinder. But you’re saying the cam position sensor wiring, I would think the misfire would move around if it were the wiring for that sensor. That sensor itself was my fist thought until you said it was just one cylinder. Then I thought injector or coil. Good luck getting it figured out.
I couldn't tell you how many times I've used those brake line compression fittings to fix a rusted line and they say right on the package "Not for Brake lines"! LOL it'll be fine that's what the emergency brake is for
Can’t you do a leak down test on each cylinder and see if the rings are the problem? LS motors don’t usually smoke as a rule. Is it smoking out of both banks? I hope it’s not something inside the motor with all the time and money you spent on it. Maybe drive it over to your engine builder, maybe he can help you figure out the smoking and why it has a dead hole with compression. If it has spark, compression and fuel it should run. Could it be a bad injector? Great Video, but sorry for the problems When do we get to see the new 187 Compound?? I better it has a killer shop
Dose it have AFM,on it cuz that's known to cause cylinders to shut down I had that problem on my 6.2 liter vortex Ls.if it has AFM delete it in the tune
Shawn it could be a electrical ground issue where a ground isn't hooked up or to much paint on the frame that it's causing resistance and burning other wires
Did you seal the intake rocker bolts with sealant? Because on a ported head the "rocker bump" in the port opens a hole to the bottom of that bolt and sucks oil.

Couple things to look at. Compression test? Injector basket? Leak down? I've had to replace injector baskets before and the results were amazing

Make sure it isn't sucking oil threw the intake runner via the intake rocker bolts. Lots of ported heads have that problem. Use sealer on the threads.
