    My daughter and her husband gave me this exact same model sailboat for Father's Day! Very inspiring video and very nicely done! Thank you for sharing!!

    Thanks for sharing! This week I acquired a Hunter 25.5 as well. It’s going to need some work but looking forward to getting it in order. I like how the inside of yours looks very clean and modern. Can’t wait to get to work this weekend!

      How’s the resto coming along, Bloodscull? I just paid a visit to Ohana a couple of weeks ago. Utah has had two great water years in a row, with the GSL still rising. I’ll be helping my friend (whom bought her) get a few tasks tackled so we can get out and enjoy some sunny sailing days.

    The best video editing, story telling, videography that I have seen, which did not go viral. Hey, it's not about numbers, it about quality and this piece of work was very entertaining! Congrats on the restoration. Beautiful boat

    Great video... Like you, I refurbished a cast iron keel and if I could share any one piece of advice to anyone facing a similar task... fork out a few extra $$ (it really isn't that much extra) to have the iron sand-blasted. The time, headaches, blisters, and foul language spared vs. grinding yourself is money well spent! On the technical side, nothing leaves you with a more perfect surface prep that is as clean as possible like aggressive media blasting on cast-iron... Clean the dust off with an acetone splash and immediately apply the first sealer coat of epoxy and you are golden.

    Great narration! Succinct without being terse-- and with a sprinkling of subtle humor. Love it!
    Also enjoyed the quick slide-show imagery of work performed. (Sure beats slogging through an endless barrage of tedium. )
    Rock on!

    Nice. Over this past summer i purchased a 25 hunter retractable keel from north carliona. Mine was unfortunately a victim of a storm. They are well built boats. Love your interior . hopefully mune will turn out as nice as yours! Happy sailing!

    Hi guys, I also have a Hunter 25.5 on a trailer here in the yard that I'm working on. Your video was well done. I think that Hunter did a great job on addressing some of the wants and needs of a weekend sailor from the aft burth to the pop up roof.
    good luck on your boats guys and thx again for the video. Trevor from Campbell River BC Canada

    Good point. Its too bad how it's almost better to restore a boat yourself than to spend more money on a decent boat. You only gain confidence from knowing the history, and all that works tells you exactly how to feel about it. Good job

    • @MauiSurfBrah
      @MauiSurfBrah  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed. Doing it the way I did, is certainly a long way to go about it, but in the end you know every inch of the boat and you know the quality is there.

    Very nice job! Kudos to you. I had the same boat awith similar color scheme when I lived in Boston, she was called Cinammon Gir but I gave up on her due to rail leaks which caused the boat to take in about 2 ft of water during a summer in which I culd not visit her for 2 months. I still have have her sails in dry storage as a memento

      No, I sold her and bought the 42’ kauri wood racing boat “Gerontius” (you can google her to read about her fascinating history). Lived aboard her, in Hawaii for a time. I am boatless atm, but I’m off to Greece next week to do some sailing on a Bali 4.8.🥳

    I would like to know more about the process you used to paint the deck and cockpit with nonskid. I have a 1984 Hunter 25.5 that I have done a lot of work on (with the help of a wonderful friend, who actually did most of it) but def needs this. I would like to do it without removing all of the hardware, do you think this is feasible?

    I have absolutely no sailing experience. My question is, could you sail a boat like that from the east coast of the US to Hawaii ? Would it be safe ? Would you have to worry about pirates ?

    • @MauiSurfBrah
      @MauiSurfBrah  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might look on google for crew websites where you'd be able to find boat owners looking for crew members. You could get on a boat and gain a ton of great hands on experience before you take the big step of buying one yourself.
      Good luck!

    • @MauiSurfBrah
      @MauiSurfBrah  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, from spring to autumn, it is $180 and through the winter I think it's around $125 (the GSL is so salty that it rarely ever freezes, only in the case of freshwater floating on top of the saltwater after a lot of snowfall, and during VERY cold years. Even then it's usually very brittle ice and does not pose much danger to the boats.)

    What kind of paint did you use? It looks as though you used a roller. Is. That correct?

    • @MauiSurfBrah
      @MauiSurfBrah  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      After repairing all cracks, crazing, and other imperfections, I used Interlux Primekote, then Interlux Perfection in Mediterranean White. Both are two-part finishes which I rolled on with phenolic-core foam weenie rollers. The finish is still rock hard, and shiny like new.

    Starting my own H 25.5 refit and will be replacing the rudder. How was the rudder gudgeon mounted on the transom? Is it through bolted with backing plates, or are the bolts glasses in to the transom?

    • @MauiSurfBrah
      @MauiSurfBrah  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello! Sorry for the delay, I haven't checked YT lately...
      The rudder gudgeons are through bolted on the transom and backed with large stainless fender washers inside the aft quarter-berth. There are two, one upper and one lower.

    • @MauiSurfBrah
      @MauiSurfBrah  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks chronoboat, I completely understand what you're saying, but my intention with this video was not to create a "how-to restore a sailboat" video. Heaps of those already abound on youtube. I just wanted to share a kind of time-lapse of the work I did on the boat, as I was getting her ready for market, and have subsequently sold her. The new owner, ironically a friend, loves all the work and attention to detail I put into it, and that is satisfaction for me enough! :D

    Felt seasick after watching that. Geez the flipping from frame to frame after 1/2 a second at a time is not fun to watch.

    • @MauiSurfBrah
      @MauiSurfBrah  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hehe, if that made you seasick, try crawling into the tight transom access of a Beneteau Cyclades 43.3 during a heavy storm, with 100% humidity and about 30C, on a long crossing, while heeled hard and heavy, just to gain access to the throttle controls and jerry rig them until you can make it into a port in a few days. That'll make you a little seasick... 🤢
