Summary:
Indian light tank gets competetion from Russian and Isralei Light Tank.
Import lobby working overnight
This zorawhar and spurt tank manufactured in India could prove to be a bonaza or a lottery for indian arms export.
Zorahwar light tank is based on western tank design philosophy with many of its equipments going in it is of western and south korean origin this could attract customers who predominately use western origin defence equipments.
Spurt light tank is based on soviet/russian tank/apc design philisopy with lots of soviet/russian origin equipments going into it, which are already being indigenous manufactured in India. This tank could cater to customers who predominantly use soviet/russian origin defence equipments.
Zorawar tank is based on Soviet BMP 2 and not western tank. West has no light tank

Wheras zohrawar tank basic chasiss is a new design jointly developed by drdo and l&t whereas it was intially assumed that it would be based on k-9 vajra chassis wheras later L&T clarified that zorhrawar is a new design.
On paper spurt is very much similar to zorawar in terms of fire-power, but on ground when spurt fires it imbalances their whole body for 5-6 sec which impact it's accuracy, yeah I know it's lighter than zorawar but also comes with many cons.
Protection is far more important
not needed if this is going to be a unmanned drone tank

There is much more to a mountain tank than just weight. The requirement seems to be in the hundreds and that will just be enough for one manufacturer to produce economically. I hope the focus stays on the Zorawar.

Unmanned tanks with very less protection ,but serious fire power and anti air/ anti drone capabilities should be explored.

Only problem is the protective armour
We can easily mount armour plates on it for further protection.
After that even if the weight increase to some amount,still it will be the best light tank for army.
Regarding mobility ,it depends on engine horse power and that can be easily managed.
Alpha Bhai our army works on quality as well as numbers ,to counter china we need very large no. of light tanks and as far as economic factors are concerned,Russian sprut tank with Indian armour protection plates is the best option.

Zorawar Light Tank is way better than Sprut Tank Zorawar has better protection with bustle autoloader and Zorawar has better and more efficient engines imported from Cummins and MTU also Zorawar is pride of India we can't on any circumstances ditch Zorawar

I am worried about our air force, which seems to be lagging behind in the fighter aircraft segment. In our zeal to get better jet engines, we seems to have forgotten to improve our own available jet engine Kaveri. Maybe our scientists are working but obviously they are slow in their progress. Hope the GoI does something. With the Bangladesh adventure by America, it has once again given us ample proof that it is an unreliable partner.

In this entire discussion of Mech Inf equipments no one looking at counter drone or counter loitering munition measures..
Our adversary to the north is major proliferator of dual purpose drones..
Adversary to the west is lap dog of the northern enemy..
If East/North East heats up.. in riverine and marshy grounds Amphibious capabilities will help but without counter drone/counter loitering munition measures these equipments would bring many casualties and unfavorable attrition equations.
Do we know what are the gun elevation and depression angles for the 125mm gun? Wondering if that is a critical requirement for the mountain warfare and whether this tank will meet it. Cockerill 3105 turret seems to offer -10/+45 degrees, as per their official brochure for the 105mm gun. Wikipedia seems to suggest -5/+15 or 17 degrees for the Sprut SD gun.

IA should prefer Zorawar provided it clears all trials ..Had they been considering SPRUT-SD tank they could have easily got a few years back but it doesn't seem so as they want better crew protection too

How on earth does it make any sense to build this tank in India and offer it to the IA when the Zorawar is going into trials? There is a light tank from Bharat Forge as well, but it will definitely be better armoured and heavier than this 18 ton Sprut. The need of the hour is to focus on indigenous designs, not completed designs that are simply license manufactured in India by PSUs like the offshoots of OFB.
A compact higher power Engine can give both agility & protection on this Sprut D2. We must try 5 protos of this on all terrain & Mars trials 😂

But Import Lobby may give Excuse that Zorawar is Advance so we can't induct it 😂😂

If I am not wrong then Zorawar offers anti tank missile capability and also loitering munition firing capability. Will this tank able to do them as well. It's protection is also very less.
Can't understand why Indian dpsus duplicate weapons...when there is drdo's Zorawar...which shud be heavily Indianised with the main gun, turret and engines all derived from Arjun.
Assault rifles r another example...we have the Ugram, now Ishapore is also making the 7.62 x 51calibre. Earlier we had the INSAS and excalibur, ghatak,etc.
In howitzers too the Dhanush, Bharat 52. In light combat aircraft we have the Tejas, but now HAL is mulling Marut 2 option when there r several other aircraft types already lined up like MK2, TEDBF, AMCA.
Why does a country with low budgets not pool in resources and make one great rifle, BMP, Light tank, MBT, LCA etc??
This tank has such a low weight that even if by adding armour protection & powerful engine even 5 tonne weight is increased it will be much better. Secondly Indian philosophy of inducting merely 300 light tanks is poor. The Army shouldn't forget that light tanks can be deployed even at LOC in J&K and at LAC in Uttarakhand besides Ladakh. War strategy calls for preempting your opponent which may open more fronts to stretch us across different fronts.

That's not considered as armour. Vo phone case ki tarah hai upar se lagta hai. They have to change design and add more powerful engine.
Than add 600hp engine... + 2 ton of protection so it'll be still 20 & 30hp per ton ... But this deal is only good if yeh sab time pe ho or comparatively in less cost + IN TIME that's the most important thing😑

😂😅😅 kuch bhi. F1 cars banti hai carbon fibre se. Thoda kuch lag jaye to ud jati hai. Carbon fibre is brittle and you can't mould and repair it like metal. And a tank has to survive shells, making it almost impossible to keep the carbon fiber intact in that case.

2s25M Sprut -SDM1Light Tank is garbage a Heavy 14.5mm Machine gun can Penetrates its armor from the front and a 50 cal from Sides, its gun cant depress more then -5 degrees & elevate more then 15 degrees and the gun elevation speed is 3 degrees per second, which makes it practically useless in Mountain Trerain, it has no protection from Artillery shells, it can be easily be destroyed with 85mm Motars etc
i would prefer the L&Ts Light tank over the above mentioned Russian Grabage to fight in the Himalayas as it has a gun elevation of 42 degrees and a gun depression of -10 degrees, the speed of elevation and depression in degrees per second are as follows 26 degrees and 27 degrees......
the Gun caliber is superior in 2S25M which is 125mm just as a T-72 and a t-90, which can fire ATGM and 3bm60 APFSDS Rounds ( idont think Russia will export this round to India)

I really don't know what to cheer about it. If our DPSU starts doing a screwdriver job then why do we blame Pvt players. AVNL who has so much experience in marketing tanks like T72, T90, Arjun and even bmp-1 and BMP -2 can't even design their own tank...? I won't support this... My vote.... Zorawar...
