I don't mean to be random and write a wall-o-text, but I just wanted to thank you for your tutorials, Yumi. I've always been quite fearful of sewing. I have a good sewing machine and know the basics, but I ALLLLLWAYS find a way to sew something inside out or screw up the measurements. It's very hard to find understandable sewing tutorials for cosplay, let alone Japanese fashion. I've wanted to help make a seifuku for my sister's cosplay for over a year now, but I could never find a simple, yet pretty, tutorial. All of your tutorials are easy to follow, and feature things I could actually see myself wearing. I also love that you upcycle/recycle old clothing, since it's way more affordable to use things I already have in the house or to go thrift shopping rather than buying brand new fabric. Thank you for taking the time to make these. It's helped encourage me to start sewing again and make my own cosplays and lolita wear. I really appreciate the effort you put into them!! (And you update so often, too!
How do you afford to buy fabric? I'm nearly 14 and I like to try and make Cosplay, but I struggle to buy fabric cheap enough. Love your videos by the way ❤❤

I'm planning on using this tutorial for a GUMI cosplay, and seeing as the vest would be cropped to just below my rib cage, shold I still do darts? Also, I feel I should mention that it's going to be a boxy vest rather that fitted to my body (I'm assuming that's what darts are for? XD) thanks ^^
question: Do I HAVE to use Satin or can I just use cotton instead? Cause I kinda don't want mixed fabriks in my Miku Cosplay and I'm definetely doing the skirt with cotton
You probably don't care anymore since it's been 2 years, but you should be able to use cotton just fine. The only thing it would change is the look of the costume since satin is more shiny then cotton

be careful when using satin for stuff like this bc satin is a weave, not a fabric, so if you sew on the wrong part of it, the fabric can get a bit lumpy. but if you don't mind that then you don't have to really worry about that!
