@@pocketwatch5149 Just the top of her funnels when she was the SS America, they were dark blue instead of black like I originally did them. Wasnt too difficult to correct. 🙂
@HFB Marine - Art & Productions Regarding the top of the funnels, sometimes they appear to be dark blue, whilst other times they appear to be a dark shade of grey. It could just be an optical illusion depending on the lighting and how you see them.
Hello there, I was on the second voyage to Halifax, Nova Scotia which departed New York on July 3, 1978. Venture CruiseLine's actually had 2 cruises (so you can edit this vlog again), the maiden voyage departed New York on June 30 which was a cruise to nowhere for like $99 (2 or 3 nights) and the passengers almost mutinied and many passengers got off early. I was 13 years old at the time and actually made it on the cover of the NY Post with both my thumbs down along with other passengers.
Thank you very much for the info (and for sharing your experiences), I wasnt sure whether it was one or two cruises she made with Venture. Info about her later life is sometimes hard to come by. :)
@@HFBmarine I also forgot to mention that we went through a hurricane because there was extremely high seas (around 18 feet) on the way to Halifax! We were lucky the ship did not sink.
Had to re-upload this video, had a few mistakes that I needed to correct! 😅 Edit: there is another with mistake with the prefix when she was the Australis. When she was re-registered to Panama, she changed from RHMS Australis (Royal Hellenic Mail Ship) back to SS (Steam Ship) Australis.
@@jamesholton2630 Yes that right, when the ship was sold the name 'ITALIS' on her bow was crudely painted over. The paint they used was darker than her already faded hull so you could still just make it out. For whatever reason her new name 'NOGA' was only put over her stern.
Probably my favourite liner too! Such a long interesting career! I would like to think that she would've been a successful hotel ship. But over the past 20 years I've seen so many ships head out that way to become museum/hotel ships and, apart from a few exceptions, almost all of them have failed (examples like the former Italian liner Augustus, the Vistafjord, Oriana or even the famous Queen Mary, which hasnt failed but definitely seems to fallen on hard times). It seems companies buy up these older ships without realising how incredibly hard and expensive they are to maintain in the long run. Still happening to this day in fact! If the American Star had somehow survived the Thai financial crash of the late 90s, she may have been seriously damaged in the 2004 tsunami. Phucket was badly affected at the time. I think she may have lasted for a little while, and then when the money ran out, probably sold to the breakers (which is pretty sad). But I'm no expert and I guess we'll never know for certain. But it would have been really cool to see her preserved though! I always wondered what they planned on doing to the ship, would they have rebuilt her forward funnel or how her interiors would have been altered. 🙂

When the ship was renamed noga, the word.noga was painted only on the stern but it still says italis on the bow

Sad ending .went from NZ to UK on her in 1967.😢
When she became the Australis she was RHMS (Royal Hellenic Mail Service) Australis, however in 1968 three years later she became the SS Australis.
