Not black but living in Canada, I've heard of similar things from our First Nations population. The main tribe in my area is Objibwe and I've heard from some male Ojibwe coworkers that their long hair was not acceptable... despite all the girl having hair past their shoulders. But when you need the job, they sadly need to compromise by cutting their long hair (which has significant spiritual value according to tribal beliefs). This even happens on a larger scale. Hockey is a big deal up here and the NHL had a former player of Ojibwe descent named Chris Simon. A tough customer and not afraid of anything. He was pressured to eventually cut off his long hair because when it came to assessing penalties, he was the easiest to spot on the ice since his long hair covered his jersey nameplate. Even when he did nothing wrong, he would be the first one the on-ice officials would point at.

The clean part is the problem, unfortunately. Racists have a tendency to see a non-white person's hair and automatically assume it's unclean, especially in curls or braids.
it should be common sense. black women have fought to wear their natural hair for years. there was a point where they were forced to cover up their hair because it made white women jealous that white men would stare at them

I'm happy to see this episode. The same thing happened to me...i nearly get fired for wearing blonde braids (I'm a French black girl). They said it was a distraction and that i should wear a black wig. They considered braids as unprofessional. They even took pictures of me in my office and send it to the CEO. I was an HR manager I told them that i have rights and asked them to show me where it's written that a black woman can't wear braids at work. I refused to change my hair and said that i was ready to start a fight. One year later they were begging me to stay because i was just ....very professional 😊
I went through something similar being a biracial woman going to a job interview with my natural hair. They just kept asking me if I’m absolutely sure that I will be able to wear a hat, as that was part of the uniform. It made me very uncomfortable. So glad to see people standing up for what’s right in this video!
Im Mexican but have super curly puffy hair, sometimes I wear it in braids to keep it neat and make my mornings easier, I had this happen at a job interview last month. The interviewer was a blonde hair blue eye white woman and I told her straight up she was minimizing me and it felt racist. She instantly tried to cover her tracks but if your hair is clean and not affecting how you work it should not be a subject of discussion. Period
Your hair is not the same and you will not receive the same discrimination that we (black) people do. Damn the braids you were which are black styles are looked at ugly on us but beautiful on other races such as yours… so please stop trying to compare…
@@asapflavaK Does their hair naturally grow into an afro-textured/kinky afro (type 4) without any manipulation? Not that it has anything to do with you bc I don't think you have type 4 hair. I was just curious.

Ok first of all her hair looks glamorous and I’m Christian so I always wore skirts and dresses to work until today I never had any issues. I don’t think anyone should ever have the right to tell you how you should look to change your appearance. Just as long your a good person willing to work should be enough.🌻
I balled like a baby at the end... yall just don't know the micro aggressions and just outright discrimination we deal with just to be ourselves.. it's good to see ppl actually call out the BS. And shoutout to everyone who had sis's back.
Right. They could not get a reaction out of me ever when everything is muffled with utensils shifting, everyone talking, and music. But I guess I’m nosey too haha
This hits home for me. I have long hair, but my parents always made me keep it short, claiming "many workplaces require men to have short hair. It's not just about job performance." Ignoring the fact that women are not required to have long hair.
That wonderful caring woman at the end with her baby and her dad should be very proud of herself. He fills her heart with love and compassion for others. May God bless her and her family now and always.
I can't believe this is even an issue!! 🤨 She looks absolutely beautiful and professional! I never understood why black people straighten their hair or wear wigs.
I agree with you. Some people wear wigs due to hair damage from years of straightening and chemical processing. Others wear wigs due to personal choice. I believe everyone just should judge each other
THIS!!!! Im not from U.S nor live in the U.S and I got curly hair. It's finally changing in my country and we even got TV ads including curly haired people, also in magazines. This makes me so happy; seeing people embracing how they truly are and society accepting more.
I wished the Black couple at the beginning would of encouraged her to find something else and that she could do better rather than just to tolerate the bullshit for a job although they knew the racist discrimination was wrong they still kind of suggested to compromise herself. wrong message.
I totally agree with you. However, my guess is that they probably figured that she could have been in a situation where she needed a job so badly after perhaps hundreds of applications submitted and various interviews. Lots of people are living paycheck to paycheck these days and are being laid off suddenly. Perhaps she could have just taken the job temporarily while continuing to look for something else. It’s oftentimes a hard position to choose between survival and dignity😢
This is the exact unfortunate reality though. That's exactly why they made this skit. Many Black ppl feel Obligated to Change their physical appearance for school and work or you may be fired or removed from the program.
I'm Mexican- American ,so I don't know much about black women's hair but I have a friend that is and I have also read they take really good care of their hair and are proud of it , which they should be. Telling her to change her hair is like telling her to deny her heritage ! She looks very sophisticated with her hair, women of color have so many styles to wear their hair and they look amazing. Hair as long as it is clean and not some crazy distracted way is a personal choice and should not be asked to change , yes in the food industry, warehouses and jobs like the hair can sometimes be a hazard and should be pulled back or netted but other than that it's not morally or ethically right to ask for a change.
What's "second of all"? When I went on some interviews, they covered 10am to 4pm, and one or more interviewers took me to lunch too -- the "interview" continued thru lunch. It's possible busy H.R. types might squeeze-in a candidate over a lunch too. But not normally -- a restaurant is not very private, is it? ♡
I’ve been in a hiring position my entire life and I’ve never seen this happen nor did I know it happens. I’ve hired all kinds of different people with all different hairstyles and never thought too much about it. TBH, I love her hair. 50 year old white male here. I would’ve hired her on the spot. She seemed extremely professional.
Thank God for people like you. Fortunately we now have laws to protect our rights, however when employers violate them, most people don't have the resources to fight it. They simply won't hire you, won't promote you if already hired with a wig or straightened hair at the interview then wear it Natura once hired.
Why did this scene make me so emotional. This country is in disarray but sometimes the actions of others who don't look like you but stand up for you makes me so proud to live here. 🇺🇸🙏🏽💜

I told them that i have rights and asked them to show me where it's written that a black woman can't wear braids at work.
@@user-pw2gx4ej4o i was waiting for someone to say this, my family has afros
Stop making this about you
@@asapflavaK Does their hair naturally grow into an afro-textured/kinky afro (type 4) without any manipulation? Not that it has anything to do with you bc I don't think you have type 4 hair. I was just curious.
I don't know but in my island Puerto Rico we have black beautiful afros I think afro is just beautiful 🫶🏽
Can we just talk about how cute the baby was at the end? So chubbyyyyy

The way that one lady was rage cleaning the table 😂😂
OMG THIS IS A NEW ONE ARE THEY MAKING MORE OF THESE?????
I'm often left in tears watching this show, the humanity is so heartwarming. Glad to see that most of the people out there are caring towards other human beings and courageous to stand up for what is right.
I always end up crying my eyes out when watching WWYD.😭😭😭
❤
literallyyyy
Ok first of all her hair looks glamorous and I’m Christian so I always wore skirts and dresses to work until today I never had any issues. I don’t think anyone should ever have the right to tell you how you should look to change your appearance. Just as long your a good person willing to work should be enough.🌻
My coworkers of other races have always said oh I love your hair in braids. I just smile and keep wearing my natural hair.
8:09 - the baby be like - “what the bell is going on here, I have no hair as well”😅
Made me cackle😂😂😂
These people are such good actors 😭
Enough to star in a Marvel movie ? :P

Honestly, Darrien looks more professional than the interviewer
He was so wholesome to watch too, he’d make a great host 😄
Finally, churning out new episodes like there's no tomorrow!
the lady at the end made me start crying too 🥹
I balled like a baby at the end... yall just don't know the micro aggressions and just outright discrimination we deal with just to be ourselves.. it's good to see ppl actually call out the BS. And shoutout to everyone who had sis's back.
I'm curious if the restaurant turns off the background music. When I go to restaurants I usually can't hear other conversations
Right. They could not get a reaction out of me ever when everything is muffled with utensils shifting, everyone talking, and music. But I guess I’m nosey too haha
This hits home for me.
I have long hair, but my parents always made me keep it short, claiming "many workplaces require men to have short hair. It's not just about job performance."
Ignoring the fact that women are not required to have long hair.
@amsterdameexcept this happens to men, which is 50% of the population. Why can’t we compare it, simply? Dress codes are outdated and are dumb.
@amsterdame and other races too- it just depends on the hair sometimes - SO HOW U STOP??-
I had a teacher in high school with blonde hair that went down to his waist
He was one of my favorite teachers
@amsterdameblack people go thru nothing enough with the victims mentality
That wonderful caring woman at the end with her baby and her dad should be very proud of herself. He fills her heart with love and compassion for others. May God bless her and her family now and always.
PLEASE KEEP MAKING MORE EPISODES!!!! WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM!!!!
The baby being just as concerned 😂
My employer doesn't care what anybody's hair looks like or what color it is as long as they do their work
@amsterdame bish NO ONE ASKED U TO REPLY- OH AND ALSO TELL THAT TO THE 1 MILLION REPLIES SHARING THEIR STORY TOO💀💀 LIKE STOP.TARGETING.HER☠💀-
As they should
I understand having a standard, but her hair literally already looks professional.

the baby already knew the interviewer was gonna say some bullshit, look at him starting at 7:59 🤣
I was gonna say that she had the most well-behaved baby I ever saw! And a smart tyke too -- it recognizes a bogus situation & its own mommy crying! ♡♡

i’ve been binging all the episodes again😭😭😭 i’m so happy

She started cleaning that table 😂😭
Watching this from Kenya, I'm literally in tears 😪. Thanks Kamau for this
I went thru this kind of discrimination at a job years ago.
I think WWYD need to make these videos a bit longer 😂
I can't believe this is even an issue!! 🤨 She looks absolutely beautiful and professional! I never understood why black people straighten their hair or wear wigs.
Well now you understand
racism and white beauty standards
It's our prerogative to wear our hair as we choose. Why is that your concern???
@@miskittt she's saying it in a positive way I think
I agree with you. Some people wear wigs due to hair damage from years of straightening and chemical processing. Others wear wigs due to personal choice. I believe everyone just should judge each other
THIS!!!!
Im not from U.S nor live in the U.S and I got curly hair. It's finally changing in my country and we even got TV ads including curly haired people, also in magazines. This makes me so happy; seeing people embracing how they truly are and society accepting more.
4:54 dang why she looking her up and down like that
I wished the Black couple at the beginning would of encouraged her to find something else and that she could do better rather than just to tolerate the bullshit for a job although they knew the racist discrimination was wrong they still kind of suggested to compromise herself. wrong message.
Yes it is u conform to the job requirements if u want the job if not move along. U conform to the job job dosent conform to u
I'm a guy and for some jobs I declined them because I have long hair and they wanted all men to have short hair.
What is there problem with men having long hair? Women mostly have long hair.

First of all, Who would do interviews in crowded restaurants?
What's "second of all"? When I went on some interviews, they covered 10am to 4pm, and one or more interviewers took me to lunch too -- the "interview" continued thru lunch. It's possible busy H.R. types might squeeze-in a candidate over a lunch too. But not normally -- a restaurant is not very private, is it? ♡
Restaurants do a lot of times
absolutely love these videos. thank you for entertaining us and teaching us lessons on how to deal with these types of stuff.
Thanks for coming back❤
I finally can watch these on my lunch break again😭
I’ve been in a hiring position my entire life and I’ve never seen this happen nor did I know it happens. I’ve hired all kinds of different people with all different hairstyles and never thought too much about it. TBH, I love her hair. 50 year old white male here. I would’ve hired her on the spot. She seemed extremely professional.
Thank God for people like you. Fortunately we now have laws to protect our rights, however when employers violate them, most people don't have the resources to fight it. They simply won't hire you, won't promote you if already hired with a wig or straightened hair at the interview then wear it Natura once hired.
I hate how they break it up when it starts to get good
I was listening to this episodes all night at work
Listening?
"Alabama, cant even tell whats happening here" that was so funny 😂😂😂
Why did this scene make me so emotional. This country is in disarray but sometimes the actions of others who don't look like you but stand up for you makes me so proud to live here. 🇺🇸🙏🏽💜
I have a friend who was asked by his employer to cut off his dreads(neat dreads, let me quickly add), just because he was applying for a job at his place. I got so mad. I'm glad that this is coming to light. Thank you, WWYD🙏🏻
