Dolphins In Depth: Dolphins Have Fallen. Can They Get Up?

  • The Miami Dolphins have gotten off to a disastrous start in 2024, losing three straight games during a stretch when the team is playing without Tua Tagovailoa. But is there any end in sight for the offense's struggles, which continued with Tyler Huntley as the starting quarterback in Monday night's 31-12 loss to the Tennessee Titans? Odell Beckham Jr. and Isaiah Wynn are among the offensive players who could be returning to the lineup this week. Can either of those veterans help Miami? Omar Kelly and Barry Jackson discussed that and many more topics in Monday's episode of the Miami Herald's Dolphins in Depth podcast.

Psssst . . . hey Omar . . . Tua threw 3 INT's against Buffalo, struggled to get past the Jags and last year couldn't beat a decent team (5 FG's against Dallas doesn't count). Tua was never the answer and never will be.

SELL AT THE DEADLINE!! This team is done. Holland isn't getting resigned, trade him now before we lose him for nothing. Try trading Tyreek, Ramsey, Mostert and anyone you can with value. Get as many picks as you can, and take the cap hits the next 2 years. Teddy Bridgwater? Ryan Tannehill? Jimmy G? This team is awful fundamentally. It doesn't matter who the qb is or what plays are called in the huddle because they can't stop beating themselves. We can't block, we can't catch, we have slightly above average qb play when Tua is in, and the roster is old. I don't understand the logic in trying to salvage this season when we're going on the road alot the back half of the year. Just cut your losses and take your medicine now instead of continuing to kick the can down the road with this failed experiment. We're too small, too old, too poorly coached and too soft. Move on

Can They Get Up? Hell No....that would require solid leadership which this organization has ZERO. Ownership, Front Office, Coaching are totally incapable and now many players are putting forth a wildly unacceptable level of effort. The young fool that is Mike McDaniels stated that this is the players team. I guess that absolves him of coaching them so that they don't have 10 penalties, don't know the plays, don't know how to line up, don't know how to get off a play before the play clock becomes an issue, mouth off on the sideline, put forth a lackluster effort. What a disgrace this team is. Let me remind Devon Achane that he is getting paid... his lack of effort is disgusting and a real organization would take care of this crap. Very few real men in this organization. And NO...Tua ultimately makes no difference. In fact his tendency towards injury is indicative of roughly half of this team. Great job with player procurement. The absolute worst organization in the NFL. And while we're at it...let's sign a bunch of these clowns to contract extensions to make the problem continue for years into the future. This is a CLOWN SHOW!

Real issue. McDaniel is running his same complex offense with new players who cannot do that. Hence the many penalties. McDaniel is infected with a professional disease called Gase Narcissism. An inability to change behavior due to an inflated ego. A refusal to change one's mind or course of action. If Mike is not back next year; he has only himself to blame.

Grier needs to get fired for incompetence, and McDaniel needs to be considered as well. The dude is stubborn af and can't adjust. He panics whenever trailing, and his play calling has been abysmal. Ross either needs to sell or clean the house and just start over with a complete rebuild. Trade Tyreek, Mostert, Ramsey, Chubb, and all the bridge players.

The incompetency from the entire organization is mind blowing. But I put most blame on Tua and our over rated inexperienced head coach. Sale the team and get somebody who wants us to be champions again!!!!!!! Fire Greer fire McDaniel's!!!! Start Boyle now!!!! This Dolphin team has disappeared!!!!! They remind me of an expansion team!!!! I have been a Dolphin fan from their infancy since 1966!!!! This team is worse then they were in 1966!!!!! I love my team like family but this is got to change !!!!!!

Watching film, there are receivers open in almost every play. It seems the QB is instructed to only throw to Hill and Waddle.

Simple answer first 3 quarters almost no forward passes or runs. Hill didn’t get enough grabs. McDanieals fault

Big physical men need a leader of same/similar stature and pedigree as they have (former player). Tom Brady made New England successful not the coach. The last coach that brought us to a Superbowl was a formal NFL player, Don Shula (Browns, Colts, Redskins). Even Jimmy J (non NFL player) couldn't lead the team to any great success.

Offense is too complicated. Qb never has time to read the defense and change plays, has to spend all that time orchestrating motions to make the coach look like some genius. It's Adam Gase all over again.

Barry, that ball that Huntley overthrew Hill with went 63 yards. If Tua was in, it would have gone 50 yards max and been intercepted. Tua is NOT the answer.

I'm glad other people are also calling out Omar for not recognizing that Tua was not performing at a high level when he was in earlier this year nor against good team EVER. He is clearly not the answer, and since this season is already flushed down the toilet, the best course of action is to tank and get a qb prospect with proper ability to run and throw in today's NFL. Honestly, I can't watch another wimpy Tua performance against a good team. Enough! Omar, get a clue.

If you want another weapon, scratch around the bottom of the barrel and dig the lost change out of the sofa cushions, and go get Devonta Adams from Vegas. He wants out and they want him out. Give em the draft picks and throw Skylar Thompson in as a bonus because their starting QB is a bonafide #2 at best. So they might take another #3

31:16 I’m not accepting that conclusion either Barry. Look at what Baltimore did to that oh so great Buffalo team. The Bills team that ran all through everyone for 3 weeks, got absolutely dismantled on both sides of the ball by Baltimore. Does that mean that Buffalo is a bad team? No. They had a bad gameplan. Which is exactly what happened to Miami against Buffalo. It wasn’t that they are an awful team. They just had an awful game plan and the Bills had a great game plan on that day. And then there were players asked to step up in moments in the game, and they did anything but step up to the plate. To the extent that Tua felt the need to get himself hurt while trying to provide the kick in the ass spark that his team desperately needed. It’s so easy to over react to things when you have no idea what all lead up to that point. And it’s easier still, to choose to criticize the wrong things, as a result of not knowing what really should be criticized
