  • This may seem pretty obvious when you first look at it, but when you look at it a different way, you may think differently. I want to know what YOU think. At the end of the video is the cutest Daily Dose of Daisy we've ever done.

A follower on Midlife's YT commented "Is the food good on the buffet?" And Midlife responded "Some days are great some not. Lunch was amazing today, and dinner was mediocre. It was amazing in the beginning, not sure why it has changed."
Ruh-roh is the one thing everyone seemed to agree was good, including Midlife, deteriorating? Is it budgetary issues due to there only being 262 passengers onboard or is it that they also now have to maintain the Main Dining Room every day? Maybe they switched the good chefs over there (though there wasn't any comment on Main Dining food)?

I liked my mother in law, but HELL NO! The fact that the mother in law waited until they were on board to spill the beans, she KNEW that it was unacceptable and they weren't welcome.

He was in the wrong. His wife planned a romantic trip for just the two of them, because she wanted some alone time with him. A ship was a great idea, because that's probably where you're the least likely to be interrupted by people you know. Being in the military I bet when he occasionally gets home, everyone and his dog come over for visits to see him, so his wife plays 3rd wheel enough of the time already. This was her turn, not she should wait a turn, she's his wife after all. This is how a lot of people end up cheating, when someone else pays them more attention than their spouse and makes them feel special. Not that it's an excuse to cheat, but there's rarely only one side to a story.

If the husband had actually set a boundary and defended their relationship, much of the irritation would have been negated. That he didn’t could speak to other problems in that department.

Today a group of Villa Vie residents are on a tiny speck of an Antarctic island, Barrientos Island, onboard the World Explorer which they had to arrange and pay for themselves when VV cancelled the bucket list destination of Antarctica for January/February 2025. Barrientos is near Half Moon Island where Odyssey should have been on February 1 (if it had gotten Polar certified in dry dock last summer which it didn't). Half Moon is a small island, but Barrientos is much smaller still. The weather in Barrientos now for those on World Explorer is 33 degrees F with very calm sea and a light breeze. The Drake Passage crossing yesterday for World Explorer was moderate seas the whole way. Today Odyssey should have been at Coronation Island, a relatively large island in the South Orkney Islands in Antarctica.
Per resident Joe/Unmoored "it became pretty obvious when we were still in Belfast that Antarctica wasn’t going to happen. The ship had too many problems - busted rudders, broken pipes, and sputtering engines among them - to ever be allowed in unpredictable iceberg-flecked Antarctic waters. It’s a 31-year-old flat-bottomed ship, basically held together with thoughts, prayers and duct tape. It uses the wrong kind of fuel for an environmentally-sensitive area. And the more we read about Polar Certification requirements that Odyssey clearly couldn’t meet - remember, we had a LOT of free time - the more obvious it became. We knew last summer that we’d never be cleared to cross the Drake Passage. And Villa Vie management must have known it, too. How could they not?
Still, Antarctica remained on the advertised itinerary all through the summer and the fall, long past the point where there was any chance we’d be allowed to go there. Villa Vie didn’t announce that we wouldn’t be going until December 27. We were already in Ecuador by then, too late for anyone who’d paid for the South American segment to bail out. A lot of Residents were understandably disappointed. And more than a few felt they’d been deliberately misled."

Villa Vie Odyssey is skipping yet another port. They were supposed to be going to Camarones Argentina (it has a high number of protected areas and national parks) but they sailed past and are going to the next port on the itinerary instead. The weather seems to be predicted as being fine just as it was fine when they skipped the Falkland Islands and other cruise ships went there on the very days Odyssey should have been there. I wonder if it's the captain (I don't know). The captain everyone loved just left for a break in Ushuaia and now they have the same captain as when the ship had the ill planned and disastrous launch from Belfast harbor to Brest to Bilbao.

Just watched Villa Vie's newest you tube about what "really" happened. Amazing how it just glossed over the months and months of waiting and the additional costs to passengers. I'm not saying I wouldn't love to be a part of it, but, they are not showing the reality of the situation.

    • @RetiredZGrt
      @RetiredZGrt 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

@@nancysabourin7297 Agreed. It was all dramatic music and no details. In addition to your points, they didn't bother to mention it was their decision to buy a 31 year old unmoving ship with no certifications and then cut the renovation timeline to a ridiculous 3 weeks that started all the problems. They also didn't mention how they had to jettison major parts of the renovation including remodeling the cabins and leaving out so many features they had marketed as well as jettisoning the Polar certification and the US certification that the CEO had said in an interview they were going to get. Nor did they mention that they left dry dock without fixing the pools, hot tub, A/C or the Reverse Osmosis system (the latter wasn't fixed until they were on the way to Dakar and the former items have never as yet been fixed). While they mention being in Belfast harbor, they neglect to mention they left after 3 days without returning to port to dump their wastewater and take on freshwater. They don't mention the disaster on the way to Brest France of not having any functioning plumbing (neither toilets nor water) and they didn't arrange to let anyone off in Brest so they could find a functioning toilet or a shower. They don't mention they kept selling Antarctica though they didn't get Polar certification and didn't bother to tell paying customers until after they had boarded for the South American segment. And how a group of their own residents arranged a last minute trip to Antarctica and paid for it themselves though they had already paid VV for that included trip. They didn't bother to mention how they kicked 2 female senior citizens off the cruise without reimbursement and how they issued a bogus Cease and Desist letter to Backroads Tourist so they could control the narrative and more easily mislead those they are trying to sell to with no one providing the actual facts. They also didn't bother reporting on where they are on getting inspected and certified for the US (as of today the US Coastguard database shows they have still had no contact from VV).
Sounds as if their video wasn't what "really" happened, it's just how they want to gloss over the history up to the present. For those who don't know the details, the video probably looks like they triumphed when actually VV's own decisions are what created each disaster and problem and disappointed and worried their passengers over and over.

I booked a last minute cruise the day before it was leaving. My sister and bro in-law were booked on this cruise and I was feeling very jealous. I wasn't going to tell them, just surprise them but I felt I should tell them which I did. Later they told me I should have surprised them!!! But I think they were surprised and excited when I told them the day before sailing.

I think the wife was justified in her feelings. Her in laws were wrong to surprise them on board or even to assume they'd be a welcome addition to a couples get away. However, the husband should have stood by his wife and managed his own parents.

@dudettegirl3261 Is there ever a moment when DC Hidden is not trying to do a hard sell to save their investment or trying to provide ridiculous explanations or excuses for VV's problems? They work harder than VV's own marketing team just trying to Sell, Sell, Sell or at least get clicks to try to earn some $ to offset their investment.

Mother in law planned this not the Dad. He was just a helpless victim. There is certainly going to be friction in that relationship perhaps even worse after this. The wife planned this for a reason to be with her husband without the interference. Do we know how long they have been married? MIL is the problem for sure.

I loved the video. I think the husband is the pivot point in this event unless his parents really did just drop in. If that is normal for them, then it is not a coincidence, but odd, to say the least. They apparently have separate cabins. :) I have never booked an adjoining cabin, but maybe. I love this type of game. So, they are swingers...? If so, would it be the young couple or Mom and Pops Cheers? Sorry, you have to do the disclaimer. Perhaps something lighter before it appears. It may make newcomers wonder. Thanks, and all the Best.

I fault the husband more than anyone else. First of all, I do suspect that he knew his parents would be coming along and didn't tell his wife. But even if he didn't, he knew that his wife wanted to make this a couples trip... and he didn't make time for that. He spent so much time with his mother that his wife "felt like a third wheel."
That's on him. He could probably have behaved in a way that made his wife feel okay anyhow -- but he didn't. He doesn't seem to have thought about how she was feeling at all.
The mother in law should have contacted the couple in advance if she wanted to join them... but if she did contact her son and he said it was fine, then I don't see why she should also have separately contacted his wife. She could reasonably expect to be able to trust her son when he says it's okay and she is welcome to join them.

It was not a coincidence. The parents booked the trip after conversations with their son. The wife is selfish to feel that her husband can't share attention with his parents, who he has not seen in a while. I've done an Atlantic crossing with my in-laws. It was delightful and enjoyed by all. Most meals were together but they did some activities on their own. We did shows together and a few lectures of mutual interest. Some days the parents were too tired to venture far from their cabin. The experience brought me closer to the in-laws. Maybe it's time for the wife to be less clingy? It's time for the wife to stop nagging so much.

It was already established that the relationship between the wife and mother-in-law was problematic. So, carjacking what was clearly meant to be a romantic, anniversary trip where the couple may have to spend time apart with his military service is going to promote in-law bonding? I think not!!
