Socrates is glorified in the western world. In the East, we have our own great thinkers and philosophers. Greater than any Greek philosopher. I don't understand why the ancient Greeks are so admired by the western world. It was merely 300 years of history. Since then, the Greeks have given nothing to mankind. The true knowledge and wisdom comes from ancient Indus civilization. The ancient Persian civilization. The Sumerians. Not Greeks.
Humerous. Western tradition broke with much of the sophistry which preceded Socrates. Not all, but empiricism as we know it is an outgrowth of western philosophy. Not Eastern. This would be a chief reason why the west’s history is taken seriously. Also, virtually all modern political theory (including that of the modern East) is a function of western philosophical outgrowth. Western philosophy has been influenced by the east (Shchopenhauer specifically), but the pivotal turns tend to occur within the chiefly western framework and historical tradition.
"He believes “the unexamined life is not worth living.” One must seek knowledge and wisdom before private interests. In this manner, knowledge is sought as a means to ethical action. What one truly knows is the dictates of one's conscience or soul: these ideas form the philosophy of the Socratic Paradox."
Are there editors or proof readers anymore? I’m 3 seconds in and the robot says that Socrates was known for his work in ethnics and morality. Really? Ethnics? I think you mean ethics Mr ai robot.
Socrates was an athenian citizen so had a civc duty to fight. According to Plato, Socrates deployed as an Athenian hoplite on three campaigns: the extended siege of Potidaea in northern Greece, the Athenian attack on nearby Delium in Boeotia a few years later, and on the expedition north to defend the Athenian colony Amphipolis.

Socrates was teacher of Plato which was teacher of Aristotle which was teacher of Alexander. As a greek, I find that extremely satisfying.

@@AncientHistoryGuy That sounds more like ethics than ethnics.
Yeah it must be ethics
one of my favorite philosophers
I'm more into later philosophers but can't deny Socrates impact
Self examination looks beneficial when there is need to change beliefs
Great vid!
Thankyou!
"The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing".
~Socrates

B.C., not BCE.
We use a Gregorian calendar so if you want to use your own atheistic calendar, that's fine.
But get your own dates.😜
This is a history channel. Historians and archeologists more often use BCE. Nothing aesthetic about it
