Thanks Tony for spotting that poor pup. The shoelace was cutting so bad and must have caused so much pain. Thank you guys for removing it so carefully.
its more confusion I think, when they haven't been eaten or attacked they are kinda stunned. Same when I catch a lizard and then let it go, its confused. I don't help the lizard though, so different dynamic.
sorry for late comment, and i cannot say this of every animal, as many do different things for differing reasons but many animals instinctually stop moving about once they’ve been caught and immobilized, as a last ditch effort to throw off whatever is holding them it’s very rare, but sometimes when something stops moving, a predator will lose interest, or loosen up, underestimating the energy of the animal moving only begins again in the captured animal when it is sufficiently free and sure it has a chance at escape (i have seen a downed and partially eaten gnu get up and walk away from lions that grew bored and lost sight!) freezing is a mechanism that has evolved for a good reason it is not unreasonable to speculate that these seals do perhaps understand that they’re not in imminent danger though, it is one possibility
Although the poor little thing has a lot of healing to do, imagine the relief of just having that damn thing removed. Thank you, Ocean Conservation Namibia. 💕
Inspiring doesn't seem to adequately describe watching someone and realizing yeah, the world is better because that person exists. Thank you all so much.
i mean the guy who got stuck under a rock and broke his own arm and cut his own nerves in his arm with a blunt knife would like to have a word, since that kind of freeing would also seem impossible to anyone but i get what you mean lol
Main issue is simply that our necks are just our necks, we don't have like 5 inches of fat that is ultimately disposable around our windpipe and vertebrae.
@@araelenecaletti1665 they use the kind that they do because it's capable of cutting through many fabrics without risking injury to the animal. I mean hospitals may have similar scissors that do the trick, but you'd want to avoid anything pointy in these cases!
Kudos to Tony for letting go the original target in order to save the pup with the severe wound who likely would not have survived another day. Never apologize for saving a life.🦭🙏
He was apologizing for the increased pain he was causing them to get it off. If you ask me, we should ALL apologize for this because it’s humans as a whole that cause this damage with all the trash we consume that ends up in a landfill. Even your diapers used for your behind many years ago are still trying to break down in a landfill somewhere and even though they never will, in the mean time, they’re leaching toxic chemicals into the waterways. We’re all guilty in some level just by our mere existence on this planet.
@@peanutbutterjellyjam4003 yeah, ok, just don’t let it happen again! 🙄 but in all honesty, some empathy in this world, wouldn’t hurt. Then again, people like you who don’t give a damn in the first place, probably don’t even know what that is.
I don't know what we'd do without your group of rescuers! It amazes me every video I watch as you guys can spot these injured, trapped seals, capture them and save them from impending death from human trash! Bless you all at the Ocean Conservation Nambia ❤
Thank you all for your kindness towards these beautiful seals that are totally defenseless against these fishermen's wire, Praise God that all went well May God continue to strengthen your hands and watch over thee always
Woo hoo ! Another seal saved from human idiocy !! Appreciate you all and stay safe ! And well done, KAT, you will get the hang of this quickly, you stay safe and thank you.
When Wally reformed the loop to show us after they had succeeded in cutting it, it just amazed me that the pup is still alive. The loop was so tiny and on top of hurting, it must have made breathing so difficult. I hope he recovers completely. Good call Antoine to net this one who needed OCN's help urgently. Thank you very much.
Poor seal no. 2. That shoelace was so deep and it must have been so painful when you had to use the sharp tools in the wound. Hate to see those tiny loops when the seal's neck is so much larger. Thanks for removing it so gently. 😍😊
That split second decision making by Tony saved that little guy’s life! The anguish in his voice as he had to let the target seal go was heartbreaking. I’m sure the original target won’t be long before being released from her entanglement. Thanks Tony 🦭💙🌊
Here I go again in tears for that poor poor pup. Thank you so very very much for helping all these poor creatures. Oh and the first one that didn't want to leave was just soooo cute. Absolutely love your work!
Baby #1 was so sweet as he waited a few moments with his rescuers. Baby #2 must have been in terrible pain. He was so calm during his operation it's like he knew that he was being helped. Thanks guys.
Ugh!!! The second rescue was almost a decapitation - horrible. Thank you Tony for getting this one instead of the original target. Like you said if it wasn't rescued today it might not survive. And way to go, Kat and Wally - great teamwork!!
Im glad that people are this caring. It must be truly terrifying to be one of those seals and think its over. Im glad you’re giving them more life even when they dont realize it. 😢
This one is hard to watch but it has to be seen. I wish the world could see this. It wouldn't stop the dangerous stuff from being put in the oceans but maybe there would be more teams like this helping so the wounds wouldn't get this bad.
Огромное спасибо вам друзья за то, что помогаете этим животным! Мы должны заботиться о них, как и о себе заботимся! Ведь они неоъемлимая часть нашего мира! А мир наш общий дом!
Tony you absolutely did the right thing; hopefully you'll catch up with the original target again before it causes problems but the little guy's only hope of survival was running into you on the beach. It's astounding it was able to run at all, when the others rushed for the sea but you could see how much it took out of the poor little guy with how patient and calm it was as you worked out the best way to remove the entanglement. I feel like I'm being choked if I put on a polar neck jumper but this little guy had managed to not give up, staying alive, with a noose half the size of it's neck! Animals just amaze me, and seals are especially resilient, thankfully. Hopefully this little guy will soon manage a hunt, to rebuild it's resources and get on with his life now, pain free for the first time in a long while. No doubt it will wear it's scar with pride, telling it's mates how it was saved by the strange net creatures, who aren't actually scary at all! I loved that the first seal wanted to stay with Wally, but it's such a shame that there are so many black straps discarded so thoughtlessly 😢 2 more seals with a future they didn't have before you intervened. Thank you 🙏🏻
It's sad when you have to leave one to catch another, then your always wondering and hoping you'll be able to see the seal again, but two babies are helped from pain and stress, lovely to watch them both go to the ocean and heal quickly. Thankyou OCN.🤗💝🏴
I’m in such mental pain watching the dreadful physical pain this seal is suffering. It doesn’t compare. You guys are such heroes. I weep with sadness but equally happiness that your existence is to fix our (humanities) mistakes. ❤️❤️❤️
poor little second pup with the show lace around his head !! such a deep wound !! Hopefully he will be ok soon and never get entangled again !! Thank u all for helping these seals !! 😢🙏🦭🦭
We believe it is not necessary for the vast majority of our rescues. We do not want to introduce drugs in a population of wild animals. We see healthy recaptures every single day, proof that sea water acts as a very efficient wound cleaner and healer, and that Cape fur seals are extremely resilient animals.
Poor pup! Thank goodness for Tony’s ability to spot on the run. Such a small piece of string ensnared this pup. I’d been hoping that the deep infected wounds were becoming something of the past as the OCN team has grown in size and expertise. And Wally’s pup with that dreaded black plastic strap, the same color as the seal. Thanks Kat, Wally and Tony for todays sharing of rescues. 🦭🌊🌍♻️❤️

These puppies are really strong : I cannot imagine a human being surviving with an equivalent entanglement.
Thank you for your fantastic work ❤ !
They would most likely live for decades or just not die from the entanglement.
Not to mention they would not get stuck and escape it.
