    I think people don't like influencers saying their job is harder than others is because most people don't get the amount of money and quality of life that influencers get. So even if it is hard, influencers are getting something great out of it where as people like nurses work so hard for little pay and barely any time off, so feels almost pointless.
    Obviously no hate, just a perspective.

    It’s not that the 9-5 is harder is that almost 90% of the people that work 9-5 make very little money, 40-80k a year and working so hard Monday through Friday and making so little it makes life harder and the job harder. I work in healthcare and I work soooo hard all day every day and the amount of Money I make doesn’t even come closeee to an influencer. I think this is when people get confused. This is just my opinion at least ❤

    The big thing with Mikayla is the money. It’s not that influencing can’t be hard or difficult, but the payout is wayyyyyyyyy more than what anyone else is making in the corporate world. THAT is why ppl are upset. Both jobs can be hard but one pays a year salary in one video and one is basically poverty

    i think this topic just goes down to money/quality of life. i’m pretty sure every job has hardships, but when influencers start complaining but the life they live is financially comfortable/stable vs someone working 12 hours a day making a little over minimum wage trying to make ends meet, it’s like be for real right now & it makes me roll my eyes lmaoo that’s just my opinion tho idk

    As a freelancer, I get the stress of "where is money coming from, is this all going to end, what happens if ___ happens, how will I pay bills" - and I'm sure there's part of that too with influencing. And I agree, the business stuff doesn't turn off in your head.
    I do think that pay makes a difference here too. Having the ability to live comfortably and make good money, make advancements in whatever career your doing, is a big factor too.

    your jobs might not be mentally easy, but is it much easier than people who wake up every day at 6 am and don’t come back home until 6-7pm. I have many family members that work these hours, but they barely get by and don’t have the means as influencers do.

  • @kseniak8781
    @kseniak8781 ปีที่แล้ว +69

    I would never say that an influencer's job is super easy, but...
    I always look up to my mom. She's a single mother who worked (and still works at the moment) from 8 to 6 for most of my life. There was also one time when, while raising me and working long hours for the smallest paycheck (Work in kindergarten yay), she managed to get another education.
    I know that no matter how much I work, I will not allow myself to open my mouth and say, yes, I work a lot more than she does.
    And also, PEOPLE DON'T LEAVE THE WORK AND FORGET ABOUT IT. At least where I live. You come home from work and most of the time you're till late at night doing your job. And again, it's all for minimum wage. Yes, middle class people may live differently. But most of the world is lower class. People work two+ jobs, they don't have a chance to go on trips or even have a normal day off.
    And to the loss of mental health. People lose mental health and their health. Most ppl can’t even get a f day off cuz they are sick. My mom literally can't not take pills every day because she is just plain sick, Because of how many years she has been working in such a horrible mode
    People get up at 6 a.m., they are mentally already at work. People come home from work late at night, they're still thinking about it. I'm not even talking about doctors and all the other jobs of that type because they can just get a call in the middle of the night.

    I don’t like to compare because everything has its own challenges and we all have different perceptions.
    The challenge of 9-5 is working 40 hours a week for little money to barley afford the house you live it in or gas to get to work. Being micromanaged by a corporate company who only sees you as a number.
    You live ground hogs day. Wake up work dinner bed. Wake up work dinner bed. You are on someone else’s time. You are told when to be there, when to take breaks, and when you can leave.
    Attendance policies are killer. You are literally told how many days a year you are allowed to be sick. You can be denied vacations and time off. You can be “let go” at anytime.
    You can have a terrible boss who’s bullies you and in my experience, HR doesn’t give a shit.
    Again, I’m not saying it’s harder but the challenges are very different.
    Thank you for mentioning single moms ❤

    Two things can be true . Influencing can be it’s own type of hard, the same way a 9-5 is hard . Some people just think about the freedom and amount that you get paid as an influencer. Just like 2 people can work the exact same job and one can say it’s sooo hard and the other person can think it’s the easiest job they’ve ever had .

    I agree with you guys. Any job can be hard in different ways. I am a PR and social media marketing strategist and these jobs are mentally exhausting. Especially social media, it can be a mind game and you can get depressed and exhausted. It’s hard beating the algorithms and achieving success. But having the flexibility to do you and focus on you while getting paid extremely well is a huge bonus. So I’m that sense influencing is not hard, but mentally it is.

    The biggest difference is that influencers get paid for ONE video what food workers get in a year of physically AND mentally AND emotionally challenging work, and when that work gets to either of them, influencers can get paid to film themselves crying with a Better Help sponsorship and we get fired for struggles with mental health. For these two reasons alone, influencers who have already made it will never have it as hard as minimum/ low wage workers.

    The thing about mikayla and why I think it got so big is because it was very insensitive, yes she was having a bad day and i get that but still her job comes with so much privilege that most of us will never even understand, incredible pay great hours luxurious trips and free products. On a bad day I still have all my problems and none of the conveniences that influencers have, most people work jobs where we are unhappy and incredibly underpaid where you have to go to work no matter how you are feeling mentally or if you are physically sick or if you’ve had a death in the family we don’t have the privilege of working the days we want the hours we want or even getting paid what would be fair and will never be able to get the amount of money in 1 year that influencers get from 1 video. There are people that literally can not stop working because the mental stress of not being able to pay your bills is so much, we would never dream of taking a sporadic vacation or buying anything luxurious as influencers can easily do, when they make in let’s say 1 month what we make in 2 years not to mention the people who have 2 or even 3 jobs just to pay the bills missing out on their kids lives or on family time because they HAVE TO provide it’s not an option, our life is literally work and it’s a constant thing and a constant worry aside from everything else that also happens in peoples life the daily struggles. I work taking care of the elderly and get paid 9 dollars an hour which is a very physically mentally and emotionally draining job and get paid very little from it I’m basically living day to day just to pay the bills, For most of us we can’t quit because we have responsibilities and families and no savings and can’t follow our dreams because that requires money and is a big risk we can’t take. the whole thing was really sad because as an influencer yes you work hard of course but the public has also given you that platform and she’s able to do this now because of the publics support so for her to speak in that way was very tone deaf and just sad because for most of us we support her and still we will never no matter how hard or how long we work be able to make what influencers make or have the freedom that they have. I don’t mean any hate at all I’m just being realistic I do love mikayla and I do follow her and the hate she got was a lot but it was hurtful because it was very out of touch

  • @bebeerin

    thank you for shouting out nurses and understanding that it truly IS a hard job! i feel like influencers are always out here trying to justify how hard they work (bc they're likely insecure about their chosen career) when there are many people out here working just as hard if not harder. the way i feel is that everyone works hard, some harder than others, but if you're working full-time, you're working hard so don't feel like you have to justify that to anyone

  • @xonetra
    @xonetra ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As a person that loves the whole career side of influencers and TH-camrs and content creators I can say that here, two things are true at once. Yes, anything that takes mental work or physical work will get hard, mentally exhausting and stressful. I think what ppl refer to when they say “influencing isn’t hard” (bad choice of words) is that they rather be broken down tired and living a comfortable life than being exhausted and not even having enough to feed their family. I say the same about football/sports players. This is a conversation that won’t go away. Unfortunately. And I’m a physical book gal!

  • @miaroselangevin8194
    @miaroselangevin8194 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    The fact that she’s describing a normal day of work that’s starts early and finishes at 5 (most of others finish later), to prove that influencing is hard is sad. I understand that in every job there is a hard part, it’s not always happiness, but comparing yourself to people who study for so long and have to use that knowledge in the real world to make a difference and get paid very little, is not right.

      I think both are equally hard, its just that they are hard in different ways.
      However, I think the part that makes people outside influencing think ''its easy'' is coz influencers can control their schedule and can take breaks due to mental health or even vacation coz they want to and things like that would never fly in non influencing professions.
      It's like - Influencing when done right is hard but you have flexibility, and other professions are hard but also you don't have the flexibility.

    another resource is using your library! most libraries will buy books that you want if they don’t already have them, and pretty much all public libraries have an online database. i read kindle ebooks/audiobooks for free through my library allllll the time. so, yes, 10 dollars is pretty cheap compared to physical books, but definitely recommend your library if you don’t usually reread your books!

    People go to school for years and then come out making less than what an influencer will make in one month. On top of that, influencers don’t have to buy items because they can either reach out to the brand or they are sent those items. Influencers will never face poverty because even at their lowest, they can just post a video and leave. It’s tone deaf even for this podcast to speak on behalf of nurses, teachers, engineers, etc.

    I believe you do not realize that even if we have a "9 to 5" job that the work does not leave our head at 5 o'clock. We too have insomnia and always think about our work. We also have to plan our work, we experience stress at work and we do not have time during the day to go to the gym. I respect you and I envy your work. You have trips paid for by the companies or otherwise you have the money to travel. You don't realize that our life doesn't end at 5 o'clock. You your work is your life. So I don't think our work can be compared to each other. It's completely different from person to person and also very different depending on the work one person does compared to the other. But to continue your beautiful work, I love watching you. 😕

    I don’t really think it’s a matter of whether one job is harder than another, but that workers should be paid a living wage no matter the work they do. Everyone deserves to have dignity in their work and make a fair living. Capitalism is unfortunately at odds with this, which is why is so important no matter how easy or hard a jobs is, that workers unionize to get the pay and benefits they rightfully deserve.

    It's almost scary how easy it is for famous people to destroy their career and life just by one wrong move (it's their own fault of course but still sad) , I mean for a normal person you can start over but if you're famous no one will ever forget what happened regardless of where you go.

    Regarding the keyboard autocorrect - you have to reset it after a while. I learned my keyboard adapted to names I usually type or words/phrases I always use and if I continually misspell “what” to waht” it won’t autocorrect 😂😭

    You guys shouldn’t have to justify being a creator. You worked for it. You have what you have bc you put the effort and time in and you deserve it. Yes people put effort and time in and don’t make it, but you guys work so hard and do everything and appreciate everything your viewers have done for you. Don’t feel bad you put in the work and got what you guys deserve, don’t ever feel bad about it :)

    Being a influencers is a privilege. Being at home working and earn the money that you want to earn, instead of the bear minimum, THAT IS privilege. People working in the fields, waiters, customer services reps. Those are wayyy more difficult than being an influencer.

  • @ElizabethAlexandra33
    @ElizabethAlexandra33 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I feel like a lot of people are still in the notion that the only way you should be making good money is by hard physical labor and that’s just not it. they just aren’t comparable in the same way, i don’t think I could ever be an influencer and absolutely hats off to the influencers these days!

Then she said the title and I was like nvm yup 😂 but also I mostly enjoy reading digitally for the convenience and annotating is easier. But if I really love a book, I’ll purchase a physical copy of it just to support the author ☺️

    Thing is, one can’t exist without the other. Not everyone can be an influencer because the world still needs to function (transportation, healthcare, education, etc). Influencers need the 9-5ers to promote shhh to, ya know? It just sucks when you work a 9-5 for peanuts. That’s why lots of us are harsh on influencers, especially if influencers are found to be taking advantage of their fans, but also why when we support you by buying your merch/whatever, you know we LOVE and support you. It’s unfortunately a weird unbalanced relationship, but the people who get nasty about it on either side really need a reality check.
