    This channel is an indirect "coach" for me. I'm enjoying the learning experience that is running without direct coaching. Coach could easily feel like "boss" and make running feel more like a job than the freedom it gives me today. Everyone is different! Thanks for what you do for those like me.

    I had two coaches, in High School. But when I raced bikes, I got as far as I did with good genetics and self-taught and I made it to the pro Elite field. I think having a coach would have really helped though. But I do have a lot of knowledge with strength training and lifting, I have a degree in occupations study personal training. And I've been Lifting for 30 years on and off. But I really don't have a lot of knowledge in running anymore. I love to run, but I've been away from it way too long. So some guidance would really help. That's why I'm very happy that we have this channel. I learned a lot from You Seth! if I had a coach you're right we would not be close friends, somebody that's a very positive, and very good short-term goals and long-term goals. And not scared to push you through your comfort zone.

    In 2017, I subscribe to a certain online custom training program which you can interact with their coach. What made me subscribe is that every workout in the training plan has a detailed explanation of the which energy system is targeted, purpose, etc..They also include some scientific explanation. They have this principle of keeping you injury free while tapping your potential during the training period. I very happy with the result, I improve my half marathon time that year from 1:50 to 1:43.

    Coaches!
    QD: What I'd look for in a coach would be how much they inspire me to push myself beyond my limits. I'd love to have a coach that's "been there, done that" which would both motivate and inspire me. It would give me the confidence in coach's leadership that if they did what they are telling me to do, and it worked for them - I'm all on board.

    Great question
    At 56/57 with a busy life, I would look for a coach who hep me achieve ultra goals in balance with busy life.
    Love show last night, disagree about barefoot or min shoe running. If someone tries barefoot or minimal running they need to try on hard surfaces. Because that’s the only way you’ll be able to see or feel the correct response. Without it I would not be running. I had bad hip and knee pain. Minimal shoes I started at 100 yards, now I can run 20 miles.
    My only disagreement, love the show. Keep up the content

      I definitely agree! Minimal shoes or barefoot is best on pavement so you can learn correct form.

    I look for a coach who has achieved what I want to or better. For example, if/when I try to BQ I want a coach who has done that. I’m probably going to get a coach for my first marathon.

    • @Chongyy
      @Chongyy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can understand why you would want to do that Kalie, but I would broaden your horizon. There are plenty of coaches who have pushed others to achieve more than you may achieved also. The success of people they coach is just as important as their own achievements in my own experience. Best of luck in your marathon training :)

    I recently hired my first coach (now 5 seasons into running). He is honestly the best coach I could realistically ask for, however, I am beginning to feel like maybe I made a mistake. Last year I had an extremely good season, literally exceeded every single goal I set. I hired this coach recently to help take me to the next level in 2023, however, after two months of working with him my performance has actually declined, and I do not feel confident at all that I will be able to acheive my 2023 goals training under him. I am more than confident I could do it without him. I feel conflicted though because he is far more experienced than I am and I worry that it may be out of arrogance that I don't feel confident in his ability to get me there. What are your thoughts?

      @rylanrussell9595 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fabiojunior5441 I went back to training on my own without him and my performance has been improving again. I'm on pace to hit my goals this year, although, I still speculate that long term I may have been better off with him. I'm definitely battling overtraining symptoms and my progress is slowing down as the symptoms show up. The burnout is also real. I think he was attempting to introduce me to smarter training, where as I've always just pushed the envelope with vollume to make gains, among other strategies.

    Coaches: I just hired a coach in January to help with a fall BQ attempt. I looked for a coach that had run a sub 3 marathon, was recommended by his/her other athletes and had a positive mentality towards running. Even though I am in GA, they are in Colorado. Quick plug for Tyler & Ellie Fox (students of David & Megan Roche). They are AWESOME coaches!!!!!!

    Can I have a little suggestion. I like today video thumbnail that's because it doesn't have that white, half transparent layer on top of the photo. I know that this is not a YT feature, but for me that whitened out thumbnail, looks like the video has been watched, or is unavailable for me or something to that matter. This is probably due to the fact that on most of the sites, if something, like a product on the shop page, is not available then it's whited out in this manner. For those reasons can you please make thumbnails without that white layer/filter or maybe even make them more vibrant. Thank you for creating great content.

    • @SethJamesDeMoor
      @SethJamesDeMoor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what you mean? Maybe explain one more time...

    • @8draco8
      @8draco8 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SethJamesDeMoor No problemo :) So, most of your thumbnails looks like they have white filter on them. Here it is how it looks like on my sub list in comparison to some other video i.imgur.com/1ftRdYv.png some of your own thumbnails looks correct here is example from your channel page i.imgur.com/zNZEy6P.png Now the reason why your thumbnails looks wrong to me is because of general perception that if something have that white filter then it's unavailable. You my ask why that is, well that's because most of websites are using this filter as an indication that something is not available (YT doesn't do that but still experience from other sites stays in human brain). Here you have example from Amazon, the biggest online seller in the world, this is how they inform me about availability of color options for my shoe size i.imgur.com/bzVhW6o.png Otherwise your thumbnails are top notch, they are eye catchy, with nice big slogan than quickly summarize what this video is all about, in general everything is good, just that white filter. All of the above comes from my 10+ yrs of experience as a frontend/backend web programmer where I worked with a lot of marketing people that was experts with fine tuning the content to make consuming it as easy and seamless as it's possible.

    What about a coach that helps foster a TEAM environment with their athletes! I'd be looking for that and positivity #1. (I think knowledge/exp/good communication should be givens!)

    • @SethJamesDeMoor
      @SethJamesDeMoor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting takes, I guess TEAM is a given in my book : ) I've had coaches that are way too positive, and like I said, are not grounded in reality and end up not getting the athletes to their full potential, too fluffy if you know what i mean.

    I think the best things a high school coach can do are 1. teach you fundamentals of running technique/skill/form, 2. teach you what NOT to do & 3. teach how NOT to get injured so can progress into higher level running programs like collage or pro and NOT be a crippled mess by senoir year. If they do their job correctly the athlete should know that there is no way in the world your progession of getting faster ends in high school.
