Thank you for this. I have 8 full cones of Holst supersoft so I will be doing lots of yarn washing. I never thought to wash it up before I knit it but it makes so much sense to knit with a softer yarn.

I have been intrigued by this yarn forever and finally ordered a couple cakes just to swatch and play with to see if I like it. I was thinking about washing it first based on everything I’ve heard about the spinning oil and roughness. Thanks for showing all the steps so clearly.

Thanks for this step-by-step tutorial. I have cones yarn that will need washing, and you make it look manageable. Thanks again!

@Susan Because the yarn still has the spinning oil in it, which some people don’t mind. It’s also quite rustic despite the name Supersoft, and the dark colors have a tendency to bleed from what I’ve seen and heard. So washing before knitting takes care of all of that and softens up the yarn nicely. You don’t have to, it’s personal preference.

Thanks so showing this. I just placed an order for yarn cones and I was trying to decide if it was better to wash before or after knitting.

I wash the garments after knitting. Can you say why you wash first? Thanks
