- If you're interested in a Goffin's Cockatoo here are some of my thoughts on them. Whether you're a beginner parrot owner or experienced, Goffin's Cockatoos are definitely a species of parrots to not look past. Clyde, my Goffin's Cockatoo, has made such a huge impact on my family and I. In my next video, I will discuss more in-depth about Clyde and how he became a part of the flock. For now, here is some general information on the species to help determine if they are the right parrot for you and your lifestyle.
Some key notes from today's video: Goffin's Cockatoos are loud, destructive, clingy, and needy. They are an incredibly active species of parrots that need adequate space and toys to keep their mind occupied. However, they are full of love, entertaining, companionship, and friendly. It's all about what you are willing to work with and fits your lifestyle. Also keep in mind if this is your first parrot, definitely come up with a game plan on how you are going to handle your Goffin's Cockatoo if he/she is loud, fearful or aggressive, destructive, etc. Don't go into this commitment blindly. If you ever need assistance we are here to help but keep in mind not just the pros but also potential cons you may have with a Goffin's Cockatoo.
I also want to throw a little disclaimer out there before next week's video... Clyde's situation and personality as a whole is a bit different from the typical Goffin's Cockatoo. I will go into more detail in the next video. Also, Yoshi and Popples say hi!! They aren't too fond of my camera so I'm working on them getting more comfortable with it haha.

How does a home with birds and cats work? I'm thinking about getting a budgie (how i ended up on this channel), but i have 3 cats as well as dogs but I'm not really worried about them. Do you separate them at all times? Can your birds free fly? I'm late so if you response to this thanks!
@@bellabenton5594 I would recommend separating them at all times, especially if it’s such a small bird like a budgie. I also have a dog and two budgies and yes, they can fly out of their cage. They live in an enclosed room, however, I take them out of the room when my dog is in another enclosed room or in the backyard. If your budgie will have to stay in the cage all day, I really wouldn’t recommend a bird as they need lots of time to fly around and interact with humans.
If for whatever reason you one day need to have your dogs and cats with your bird, do NOT leave them alone. Keep them under extremely careful supervision as dogs and cats are still predators. (Fun fact: House cats kill more small mammals than any other predator.) I hope this helped!
In my experience when you get a parrot wood furniture just becomes a thing of the past, metal furniture is my best friend. Lol

i am 12 and my family has a umbrella cockatoo(11), an African grey (19), a parakeet (4), and a blue Quaker parrot (1) the parakeet and the blue Quaker parrot are my birds that i have raised, and the Quaker parrot i named river! she looks just like popples. My Quaker is out a lot of the day but i do have a problem with her. every time i hold her she goes to my neck and starts biting me. i have done research and i cannot find any reason she is doing this, i have tried yelling at her and putting her in the cage if she doesn't listen but it does not help. i know you are a parrot expert so maybe you could help? if so that would be amazing! thanks

I have one question. Do you thing a green cheek could get along with a cockatiel
It's not recommended, they could kill your cockatiel. So be prepared to have separate cages and maybe separate time outside of the cage. Don't trust them together without you being there! But of course there are cases where it works out fine. Just really make sure you know what is most likely to happen.
Long time, no see. It's been so long that I think I've added about ten tarantulas to my collection since the last video. It seems to me that getting a new bird is at least a partial antidote to a creativity shortage. A new bird gives you more to talk about. Not that you should get a new bird just to give your channel a lift, but you wouldn't do that anyway. Just please don't go so long between videos again. Without entertaining videos to watch, I go on spider buying sprees. I don't need fifty tarantulas!

You should do a video on why buying birds from chain stores are bad and where you should get them instead, because my mom doesn't understand that and shes like "then where else do we get birds?" ans stuff because i wanted a bird for so long and she finally agreed. And i know the best way is to adopt but i don't really have bird shelters near where i am from, is it still okay to get birds from chain shops like Petco?

I love your new look! Clyde is adorable! I understand burn out, I couldn't watch after my blue Quaker flew off, while his wings were clipped. So I'm just coming back too. My heartache is I had to move states away without my Mardi Gras! Alabama watchers, if you see him, (says peek-a-boo), please use Parrot 911 to let me know! Thank you, he was training as my support animal, so he sits on shoulder and screams loudly if you trip.

Mine I had resued from a pretty bad situation, so he was older but, oh my just the best, took some time. And yep he loved to chew up my door frames! My Goffin is scared to death of me now. He used to not be. His name is Lovey, he use to be Lovey! I had to go to work, he no longer got the attention he needed. Now, I don’t work. However, I now have to wear glasses and he does not like them. At all! Help, he will not come to me. If I take my glasses off, the he goes nuts. He will start over preening when I talk sweet to him. I would just love for him to come out of his cage and be curious, play, anything! Help!!!! Any advice?

I grew up with a lesser sulfur crested cockatoo. My mom got him for me when I was 9. He chewed on everything made of wood in the house. May dad was a at his end which the bird and yelled at him. I got really upset and yelled at my dad that my bird just wanted wood to chew on. So I went out and got a piece of firewood from outside and put it in his cage. Problem solved... except for the 32 following years of wood chips all over my living room floor. Lol 🐦🙄
I am also a new bird mother..my harlequin macaw chick is 11 weeks old..I was searching for him for an age..then found the breeder I was happy with at Xmas.. and amazingly he hatched on my daughters 18th birthday...how cool Is that..I worried about the bone between him and my partner..I needn’t have...they love each other already ...nearly ready to start ff training..so exited..

I would like to thank you for making videos. I’m getting a green cheek conure soon and a few months ago when I was researching what I needed for the conure . I’ve notice there are really few videos or anything on that matter for conure/parrot care . Most of them were so many years old and your videos are the only one that are the most recent and without your videos I wouldn’t have known what to get and how to properly care for my future conure . Please keep making videos for future bird owners so they can have the right updated care for their future birds ! ❤️❤️ i hope maybe once I get my conure I will start making videos for the sake of other people that want bird so they can have updated info and care so they don’t have to go through the trouble of worrying if the info was updated or not !! I had a Goffin for over 35 years. He died in my hand at 35 yrs. But I love that bird. He was my best friend and my worst enemy at times. He was so funny and did so many great tricks.
Oh wow that had to have been incredibly hard to lose a companion of over 35 years... Like I was telling some others, parrots leave such a huge impact on our lives especially when theyve been a part of it for so long. No doubt in my mind you gave that birdy the best life possible.
Victoria Ryann He died in 2011 and I miss him today just like it was yesterday. He stayed on my shoulder almost all the time. We ate together, and he ate anything and everything he saw me eat. He’d sleep in my lap, on his back. He also bossed my 85 lb dog around constantly. He wa my best friend.
Aweeeee. That is so sweet. I can totally see the bossing the dog around thing 😂 Clyde already bosses around our chinchillas so no doubt he will the dog as well lol. Sounds like he was such a great birdy.

There are no Goffin’s cockatoos in Australia. They are from the Indonesian Tanimbar Islands. They look a lot like the little Corella cockatoos in Austalia though, the ones also called Bare-eyed Cockatoos... 😊

Hey weird potato hope you and your family are doing good!!! Well first step would be to identify as to why he's biting. Is he not wanting to go back in his cage? Is he irritated due to molting or hormonal? Is he upset with you over something? It all depends on what's going on with him in his life ☺️

Hi! I’ve really enjoyed your videos! I’ve been working with Pixie Chick (a female Quaker). I got her when she was only 20 days old, she is 6 months (oct, 2020). I grew up with a pair of peach face love birds, the female crossed over when I was in college, she was over 12 years old! I have always loved cockatoos and would love to adopt one from a rescue. But with Pixie, because I got her so young, and she’s with me 24x7, I worry about damaging my bond with her if I get another bird. She has 4 different cage environments, one in each room I hang out in. She has a backpack (we’re working on the harness training, but frankly she’s very happy in the backpack). Also she spends about 3-5 hours out of a cage a day. And yes, she is “my” bird within our 5 person family unit. Mainly because I’m the one home all the time and family is scared of being bit... even though she has never bit them 🙄 anyway... I would love to have another bird, but not at the coast of damaging the bond I’ve worked so hard to achieve. What are your thoughts? Payton
Hi Victoria, I just bought a green cheek conure, because my sun conure that i had for 8 years passed away while someone was bird sitting for me. I just wanted to thank you for your videos. My green cheek is 3 months old and i bought him at pet smart today. He is terrified as the girl at pet smart got him with a net. He was pretty traumatized. Hes eating and drinking and seems happy. He is pretty skittish and i know it’s gonna take awhile to bond. Im learning alot from watching your videos even though i had a sun conure for 8 years. Keep the birb vids coming!

I met a Goffins cockatoo like 6 months ago in the bird store, and I really regret not buying her. She was just the sweetest bird I have ever met. Her name was Boo, and her owners left her there because they were allergic to her. She didn’t want to come out to anyone, and was really shy. For some reason she really liked me from the day that I met her, and she stepped up right away. I sat there cuddling with her for an hour, and she was falling asleep in my arms. She loved to dance, and she loved to sing and play. I did this with her for 3 weeks, until one day I came to the bird store, and she wasn’t there anymore. Someone adopted her and I’m sure she’s in a great home, but I just can’t stop thinking about how I should’ve bought her. My family members knew how much I loved her too and will still mention her sometimes and that they wish we bought her too. I didn’t know a lot about them at the time, and I had my heart set on getting a Rose breasted cockatoo. I have a Rose breasted cockatoo now and he’s the best bird ever, and I have no regrets but I wish I could’ve just gotten them both. It’s so hard going to bird stores and falling in love with them and then they get adopted 😭 One day I am going to rescue a Goffins though

Oh man! I watched several of your videos a few years back before getting a bird and decided on a green cheek... he died late last year from something in the house, not sure if someone cooked with Teflon or what but there was an odor and later on he passed. I was so devasted, waited a bit but the love of birds is a real thing. I missed him and I missed having a bird. I was going to get another gcc and ended on a Goffin Cockatoo 😳😳😳 LOUD is an understatement lol. They are definitely not the same, they are very expensive and do crave cuddly time and attention and want to be around you. Mine hates me whenever my boyfriend comes around tho. I don’t know how to fix the behavior and at times, I’m ready to rehome her to someone better equipped 😫 but finding someone is hard and then I don’t trust anyone enough to have her best interest at heart so I keep trying.
