Yeah, he just looks defeated. Like he's had all the life experience of someone who's lived past the point where youth becomes a fleeting memory and now just waits for life to destroy him.
@@vrapbrap I hope you are happy with how stupid you look now. You should delete this comment and learn to wait for both sides of a story rather than jumping on the hate wagon next time.
Not exactly....you can change between chibi size and normal size.....I like the chibi size because you can ride on monsters especially n battle the large ones like Shiva and Ifirit.
Gee, an epic RPG where you can evolve your mons back and forth to prevent unnecessary grinding. I've never heard that one before... *Holds up copy of Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth*
Actually no, Cyber Sleuth had it's fair share of grinding where you HAD to de digivolve and re digivolve your monsters if you wanted most Mega forms. This was especially bad if you wanted most of the Royal Knights, Mastemon or Lucemon
But none of that grinding was necessary to complete the game. Most of the mega digimons appear eventually as random encounters. Most of them. Most of them
Hey I recognize your youtube logo, its Victor from Soul Hackers. I could never beat that game, I got to the final boss and he just wipes out my party before I can beat him.
Anyone else feel like Squeenix is relying too much on "hey, remember that this FF character exists? It's in this game too!" Everything lately is just them riding nostalgia
Giordan Diodato lol sadly? Sorry but as ff fans we want badass new characters and great stories but if they arnt able to do that then nostalgia is the way to go.
I never played a FF game before this one and it made me want to play all of them so I could understand the little hints and inside jokes. If anything, I think this is perfect for people who have never played them before. It gets them interested.
I can't agree with the notion that the game is "for Final Fantasy fans". Yes, the localization team clearly has a lot of love for the series with the cute references they cram in for monsters, but the characters resemble their numbered counterparts (and Xenogears at one point, I think) in aesthetic alone, as their persona is hollow representation of the real character. Example: Early on, you encounter Rydia from Final Fantasy IV, which remembers the devastation of her village, but not any of the development that she went through during her arc. It acts like the death of her mother and the destruction of her village was the sole factor that defined her rather than a single aspect of a fully fleshed out individual like she was in that game. It seemingly forgot that Rydia did grow as a character & moved past the burning of her village as a traumatic event, hence why she saved Cecil and co. from certain death at Golbez's hands and saved the entire world. She wasn't defined by that one moment in her life, but WoFF presents it as such for, what ends up being, a hollow rehash of the aforementioned scene. It's rather disrespectful to the character and the other perils they faced for a game that claims to be infatuated with the series.
Caz It's taking characters from different times. I mean Cloud looks normal but Tifa is in her cowgirl outfit so just take them as separate characters from their games. Even Lightning and Riku are in alternative outfits but they are still the same age as their base number games.
The reason for your story complaint is actually cleared up in some character profiles. The personalities are the same, but they are not the characters from their respective worlds. For example, Rikku and Yuna have no particular history in that world because Yuna is the head of the summoners and Rikku is a treasure hunter who lives her life in full pursuit of trejies. The writers intentionally omitted or altered the history of the characters to make them feel like they belong into that world, not just cut and copy doppelgangers
Caz He means for newcomers of the series won't understand the jokes, know the characters/locations. He played this on a stream where people asked him if they were new to final fantasy should they start with this. I agree unless you know any of the more obscure fina fantasy's you probably won't get as much enjoyment as he or learned people who know of the series would understand.
You do realise that the characters aren't just grabbed from their universes and dumped into this game right? They belong to this world and have their own back stories which the writers created for this game. Yuna and Tidus never met, but Yuna and Rydia know each other because they are both summoners. Your complaint could be valid if they DID just get dumped into the world and the writers DIDN'T create their own lore surrounding those characters, but that's not how these characters are treated.
for me personally, i only just started getting into the games, beating FF7 for the first time last year, and i still love world of final fantasy. its so chibi and so fun. the writing honestly reminds me of the earlier paper mario games which i also enjoy. this game for me personally has a lot going for it, but sadly with FF15, a lot of my friends dismiss it and i think this game should get some recognition. and it'll be on sale on black friday so i think for everyone thats when people should get it.
While I did have a nice time playing myself, the cut scenes do get a little heavy toward the end. Plus the bugged quest markers had me running over to the GameFAQs boards more than a couple times in the "last" chapter. Never did finish 'cause I couldn't get Ramuh to show up in the Coliseum (and yes I do have Ifrit and Shiva already and have done every fight up into the level 70's). ANYWAY... I also had this strange thought. I always feel guilty if I skip a voice actor's dialogue, so I try not to. But it makes me wonder if someday games will have the ability to track which voice actors' clips get skipped by players, and then pay (or not pay) the voice actors accordingly. What I actually kept thinking was that I wonder if they do that already, and that was part of the reason I didn't skip them. Just like how I try not to skip ads on YT. What a strange world this has become.
Shoregrey If you want the game to be more challenging, the default combat is set to active time battles where deciding your actions/performing them doesn't stop the enemy from moving or getting closer to their turns.
Austin Parks I don't think he's talking about the difficulty. Pretty sure he's talking about the art style, idiot characters, and poor plot. The game looks beautiful, it also looks like it brings some new elements to the turn based/atb formula, but it was definitely made for children. Jared even says you need to ignore the story and characters just to get through the game. With ffxv being full on hack and slash and ffvii remake going the exact same way, we'll never get another serious turn based/atb final fantasy :/
Manin Black I'm pretty far into the game, and yeah, the main characters are stupid and annoying, but this really isn't the worst final fantasy plot out there in my opinion. It's somewhat interesting enough with a -few- select twists that keep you guessing. Is the story good? Fuck no, but is it the worst thing ever? No. I mean.. It's pretty much going back to original FF plot "COLLECT ELEMENTAL THONGS, LEARN THE PAST." No one cried about it then.
Austin Parks oh hey, I completely get why you're defending this game and I'm with you. I mean, yeah I said some negative things that I see about this game, but I also said some positive things. The problem isn't whether or not the game is good, it's that it's very clearly and distinctly made for children. That by itself isn't a problem, one of my favorite recent jrpg's is Ni No Kuni and that game is also very clearly made to be sold to children, regardless of it's appeal to adults like me because of its elements that return to old school jrpg and amazing studio ghibli design. That being said, the problem that shoregrey has (I believe) is that these games give people who argue "turn based games are only for kids" more ammunition, because we simply aren't getting games like this that are as "mature" as main ff games, or at the very least aren't chibi art design and simple (even if bearable) story wise, like bravely default... I haven't played the second yet, but it's still chibi art style. I'm not done yet, however, because this isn't just a problem of giving annoying people the chance at a false advantage in their annoying rhetoric, this is a trend set by square that's essentially a self fulfilling prophesy. They believe classic style turn based/atb jrpg's won't sell well anymore, but there's no evidence of this in any of the final fantasy main number series. From 1-10 they went from turn-based to active time battle, innovating and changing each iteration on the way, then went to some crazy turn-based that acted like atb in 10, and then they went to 11. I never played 11, but 12's battle system is obviously based after mmo logic. They called it atb, but it was a vast departure from anything of the classic games. 13 seems like it got closer to the original formulas, but what they really did was say "how can we get as close to action rpg as possible and still call it active time battle?" And then 14 is just another mmo, a good one from what I hear, but a cannibalization of past ff's and a massive skinnerbox from what I've played, but if people like it I don't mind I guess. See, my problem isn't that final fantasy has games like 11 and 14, or 12 and 13, or even 15 and the 7remake, it's that we'll likely never get another 10 9 8 7 or 6, or before. The only way we'll get strategy menu based jrpg mechanics that try to do new things without trying to be other genre's are in these games made for children, or handhelds. Safe games that they don't have to sell millions of units to break even, where they don't have to market to the least common denominator. And anyone who just says turn based/atb is "tap x to win" is just stupid. There are strategies in every older final fantasy, and sure they aren't fire emblem or advance wars strategy, but the only way you can tap x to win is if you sat there and grinded for 3 hours before every boss. That's on you... You know, the "you" that argues this. ramble over.
"...we'll never get another serious turn based/atb final fantasy." Which is why they lost me as a customer a looong time ago. ATB, for me, was a defining characteristic of FF's gameplay. I don't want to play a lopsided action-RPG that kills it's own pace by stopping to have hour-long cutscenes and exposition dumps. Which I find it sad they seem to find so much to talk about at once but never actually *say* anything or develop any of the characters' arcs. The series has been pretty shit for actual quality storytelling ever since Hironobu Sakaguchi left Square.
12 gets shit on? If anything, that's like the most "overrated" (in terms of how many people claim that it's underrated when it really isn't) title alongside 9. I don't know what the community thinks about 3, but I always thought that one was pretty good. Not one of the best entries by a longshot, but it was still a pretty enjoyable game that I don't think gets talked about enough.
3's the black sheep of the family, tbh. Not only does it feel more like the first one than the second installment, but in the remake, there's suddenly plot that we didn't know it had. Plus, it's also one of the more obscure entries being originally japan-only prior to the DS remake.
"When he says the worst slowest start to a game and you think "Ahh this man hasn't experienced the pain of Persona 4! 3 hours of nothing except the X button! Great game though
What's this? A Final Fantasy with really fucking rad monsters? ... Oh wait they're chibi now? ...Oh wait they stack like fucking Legos now? Just an example, really draws away from the almost-super-edgy Final Fantasy art style.
The major thing i would change with this game is scrapping mirage levels and having only your two main characters level up, with your mirages level and sp corresponding to lann and reynns. This would give greater flexibility with swapping and changing stacks later in the game as you wouldnt have under leveled mirages in your collection.
4:02 Gee an epic RPG where you have to collect four treasures of the elements, I've never heard that one before. *holds up Final Fantasy 1* WOAH, WAIT A SECOND!
It's so cool to see Jared do reviews again! I missed them a lot, even the One Minute Reviews, even though the TH-cam algorithm highly discourages them.
I agree Square Enix chooses to focus so much of their effort on the graphical presentation of the game that the chibi forms of the characters do nothing but detract from it. They don't even look all that cute, they just look like dumb collectable pop figures.
Why aren't many gamers satisfied with the long cutscenes???!!, I love long cutscenes, that's why I love games which have them, like MGS series, and Ashora's wrath, and many others. Sometimes, I love to watch more than playing, not because I don't want to play, No, It is because I want more cinematic gameplay, and less of me.
Well, maybe because I'm buying a game, not a movie. If i bought a game, i want to play the game, not to watch long, possibly boring cutscenes. I'll just buy a movie for that.
Ori No Game No Sekai i fell exactly like you, i love cutscenes and i don’t mind if they’re long. It’s my personal way of playing tho, i love story based games, hence i love being told a story. I also like playing of course ahah
I disagree with your characterization of Lann and Tama. They are both funny and their cheezy dialogue during fights brings a smile to the player's face. They set the mood and yes sometimes they even reference that their humor is bad. In general their dialogues are both funny and silly and I am pretty sure that this is a result of the brilliant translation team. Additionally I never had a "ohhhh this character is from ffx so I get the reference" moment. Even newcomers can understand what's the joke each time. Lastly you didn't mention the wonderful animated scenes and of course the fact that every scene is dubbed. Yes this is wonderful and unique. The voice acting is excellent and we see every line voiced. Most games have dialogues only during cutscenes. This one dubs everything. Also the comments about the cutscenes in a ff game......really? You couldnt just let it slide? You had to make an excuse to bitch for something?A person that considers himself a ff fan has an issue with cutscenes? Clearly a hidden gem ff game and by far one of the greatest ff titles. That was a solid 9.
@@MazingerDestro by saying that the game is the best thing ever, saying that you're opinion is absolute and that anyone who doesn't agree is a negative fool, and yelling at the dude for not absolutely showering it in praises. personally, my rating is 6 AT BEST. it is far from the best game out there. i can think of plenty that i would rather play.
@@christopherbravo1813 no ody said best thing ever or that my opinion is absolute or that if you dont agree with me, you are a fool. I said that he was nitpicking just to sound negative.... Jesus kid.....
Those chibi forms look soooooo cute...Great review, I kept hearing it was FF Pokemon from people I know how played it but could never explain what it is...This helps a lot.
Every time I see the main two characters I think this is Kingdom Hearts lol. The artstyle and the big clothes makes me think that too. The girl's face looks too old. And I don't like chibis. But this game does look goofy and kinda fun, and I like collecting monsters and things. Some of the monsters really look like digimon or shin megami tensei creatures. I've never really played any final fantasy games though, and the weirdness of story actually trying to be serious in the middle of its dumbness does turn me off... So, not sure if want.
You know FF 15 would be a good story if square enix didnt put so manny block to Nomura? thats was one of the reason of leaving the game, now you play ff15 and it is jusrt graphics, cause the story is as bad as FF13 and we got the game so fastly that it was so damn uncomplete, we had o wait 2 year and a lot of upgrade and dlc to get a story, yet not well worked cause it is anoying and it jump so manny times leaving so much plot holes, specially with your own companions who would be never have their own stories on dlc.
Final Fantasy X has a good CONCEPT, but the plot (which is actual execution and character interaction, backstory and presentation) are all fucking garbage. I took off my nostalgia goggles last year when the HD version came out. Seriously, play that game again, it promises a lot and gives you little to no reward.
Tad Dad Its everything actually. How Rikku joins the party out of nowhere. How the bosses are all ridiculously easy, how Bahamut severely trivializes the game and they only take Yuna away from the party maybe once or twice, and I think before Bahamut. Its how every character has a lot of potential to have their story made relevant but the game never takes the steps for it. You get some Wakka, some Yuna and a lot of Tidus. The rest go very little in depth on their motivations and backstory. Lulu just spouts things out of nowhere from her past Summoners, but never enough, just random lines like "oh... my last summoner died here *shiver shiver*". Wow, who cares? The voice acting is bad, and don't excuse it by saying "oh it was early on the PS2 life-time" because Kingdom Hearts 1 came out the same year and it didn't ultimately suck. The budget wasn't monstruous either if thats your argument. But even WITH bad voice acting, character animations and reactions are unrealistic, stiff and just make the game plain akward. I have a vivid memory of having my hand over my forehead and eyes in the scene in the Al-Bhed city where Tidus discovers Yuna will die in the end of the journey. He just kneels and does wierd noises while a random Aeon stares down at him for no reason and suddenly every character in the scene is gone also.
Fun fact: Sora (the in most KH games protagonist) from the fan favorite Kingdom Hearts series will have his Debut in his first Final Fantasy game as a Chibi DLC.
I'm a VERY big fan of pokemon, and I know stuff about final Fantasy, but I've never finished any of the games and I certainly wouldn't call myself a fan. But I still love RPGs. Do you think I should at least give this game a shot? Or do you think I should stop being the worst fan of RPGs ever and play some of the other games before playing this?
Thethunderstriker I'm with ya on this and say give it a shot. However, its ok to not finish something but finish them whenever you got the time. RPGs these days require a lot of time to finish. like 3 months worth or at least a whole week of grinding.
try demo as FF fan i don't know I'll probably pass on this, the chibi models very distracting. Personally just going spend my money on actual pokemon game, Sun and moon are due this friday.
While that's true, 60h is enough time to finish most of the FF games (excluding the onlines ones) to get a basic knowledge of what you're playing. You won't play and find everything that the game has to over (unless we're talking about the first ones and even some of them ...) but it's enough to fly through great stories. Well, most of them. Some aren't quite amazing (FF II for example with those painful lv up mechanics) but some others will make you want to replay them or to simply find more about a certain char because these games have a lot of background side-quests here and there.
Thethunderstriker with Sun and Moon out in what, two days? This game is longer than that amount of time so it really depends if you can handle two games at once, cost and time wise.
You know several months ago I found your channel and I have to say, I heart you now. Plus we share the same favorite game of all time, Final fantasy tactics, so I don't think I could bring myself to outright hate you.
Jared! Jared! Jared! I've been following your reviews and work for many years. I feel that you enjoy what you do (after all these years) and invest the time and thought to put out quality content for those who care to watch. You're very relatable and knowledgeable. Eveen though you say it alot.. We know you've invested the hours needed into a game to relay a true and honest review about the games we care about. Much respect to you my friend.
Jared!! How could you not mention how SICKINGLY ADORABLE THE MOOGLES ARE?! Other than that - you hit the nail on the head! Especially about Lann and Tama..
A note from a Vita version only owner: The voice acting is in Japanese if you got the Day One Edition and want to use it. The English option is there in the settings menu too, but it cannot be selected. The text also advances as though the voice acting is still there so expect to miss some stuff and wait a bit longer than you should for it to advance. But yeah, having fun with this game so far. :)
Can't help but notice your shelf is missing Vol. 3 of .hack//G.U.. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this series, it's one quite near to my heart. Specifically the original IMOQ games but the series as a whole would make for a great video. Definitely not a series I've seen any major youtuber cover. edit: I'm blind, Vol. 3 is there
Yea, I'm curious as to what he thinks of the .hack franchise (not just GU, but other games such as Quarantine and Mutation). Seems like barely anyone covers the games and TV shows on any form of website.
Here's a basic overview of the .Hack franchise. SIGN was really good at world building, not as good on story telling. The original PS2 games were great at both. Legend of the Twilight Bracelet is an okay fanservice show. The books and manga, primarily those that take place before or during the original PS2 games, were alright. Anything involving The World:R2 is awful and used just to drag out the series even more than it needed to be. Serious, how are can you defend the main character of GU being Sora from SIGN? Sure he got data drained and lost his memory, but still one of the primary antagonists from SIGN unknowingly fights against Skeith, who he was originally working with. This is also the reason why Link was never brought over to the West, the series was in serious decline, with GU not even managing to pull in half the players of the original series, and Link selling about half as well as GU in Japan. EDIT: I'm pretty sure no major TH-camrs cover the games since you can't deny the multimedia approach of the overall story needing you to reference both anime, manga, and books, and that's a both a big undertaking and a risk as you'd need to show scenes from the anime and potentially get flagged.
You know, Dragon Quest Monsters 1 and 2, GBC and 3DS, function similar to this in how the worlds exist. Those games involve the Monster Masters traveling to little pocket versions of the worlds from the main games, fighting familiar bosses like the Green Dragon or Pazuzu. They’re very much fan service worlds!!
If it’s any consolation Balthier is a summon. And who would they add from 14? I thought I saw Firion, but I was mistaken. Adding Shantotto felt rather redundant too, but oh well.
Rather than chibi or anything, they closer resemble those Top! figures you can buy that are similar to nendroid figures. I was glad the eyes weren't like the Top! figures though.
The monsters can move backwards through evolutions? So it's more like Digimon than Pokemon. Heavy handed story telling? So, it's like Kingdom Hearts. I remember seeing some of Marzgurl's playthrough and I have to agree, I could not stand the two main characters. Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to skip this game. I can understand 14's characters not being in there as this game was probably in production alongside 14 so they probably weren't really sure who to bring over. Not having any characters from 2 is OK by me as that game suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. 12 though, yeah, would have been nice to have some of the characters from that.
i only play it with japanse dubbing so i think i enjoy it more. whole for serial thing feels invasive though............. then again maybe it oculd be the point, its invasive. no spoilers though. also tama's speech pattern makes no sense when you listen to the japanese voice overs, cause she does not do the whole The thing. she just ends her sentence with misu, though i do not have a trnaslation of what that word means. its like when moogles say kupo.
in battle it´s like pokemon... kinda but the evolution mechanic is like Digimon, I agree AND what´s even better is... you REALY can freely chooce which form your monster should have and it even remains it´s lvl 8D
Solid and honest review. One thing I wish you mentioned was the tutorial cat thing...he voice acting annoyed the hell out of me. The fact that she kept saying "the" in between words made me wanna smash my head against my desk. I was hoping someone else would mention that lol.
Anyone remember the flash series Final Fighting Fantasy that never got finished? That's all I wanted Square to do... with an ending. And have the tried and true Active-Time Battle system with normal [Fight/Magic/Item] combat. An inter-dimensional story bringing together the heroes and villains of all the games that basically merges all their worlds together where the constant that connects them all is Cid. Make the player question "was it really just a running gag and they were really all different Cid's? Or is he one person with the ability to travel through space, time, and alternate dimensions?"
I would argue that it's more Kingdom Hearts - Disney + Digimon, what with the tons of monsters they you can swap along evolution trees (albeit much more easily than in Digimon). Also,I think that Tama is more extremely twee than stupid. A lot of the time it's clear that she's just screwing around for fun, while Lann is what you would get if you took an ice cream scoop to Roxas' frontal lobe, though he does get marginally better by the Pirate section (still dumb, but only to the point that you actually get more annoyed at people for picking on him, or for letting him wander around with living flamethrowers, rather than for anything he himself does).
I wish more people would talk about the fast foward button... it works outside of battle too, so if you want to move cutscenes along without having to outright skip them, its awesome.
That's weird how that happened, although the game is getting more updates, so maybe they'll fix it... I hope. @Avenger you'll be happy with it if you like FF games, especially the older ones.
The sidequests are called miniventures. Intervening is just something you can do in the Girl-Who-Forgot-Her-Name's Tearoom. I actually enjoy the story, though the Lann moments got a mixed response from me. Some made me laugh, some were irritating, but at least Reynn was there to bring sanity and wisdom to the front; hence my never having facepalmed.
I actually really liked the story and goofy humor, but I completely agree about the exposition dumps. Those should have been spaced out better, and more gradually throughout the story. Oh, and if you want more of a challenge with the game, set Battle Speed to 5, and Battle Mode to Active. It's basically hard mode, and really makes the battles more enjoyable and strategic, as enemies no longer wait for you to input your command. Forcing you to think more on your feet.
Mayor Milford Meanswell It's called sarcasm, but quina isn't bad though. And obviously if cait sith was there, it's summon would be directly ripped from its limit break In ff7.
I feel like my appreciation of Kingdom Hearts helped a lot with my tolerance of the overbearing, lighthearted dialogue and visuals. 7/10 feels fair, because the game is incredibly niche for an audience, but I think it's well polished and fleshed out. They didn't make this a throwaway title. Personally, I've enjoyed all of it. Almost 60 hours, and not too many complaints. Maybe the depth of the combat feels a little too shallow, but not too bad.
when you transform into chibi form you can ride the monsters aswell in battle or travel. I think even a chocobo too but that's at levels I'm not at right now
I absolutely DESPISE the chibi look of the characters, i always did for anything really. The stacking just adds to the ridiculousness of how the characters look in battle
primeevil41 FF1-6 did NOT have a chibi look. Don't confuse old style sprites with Chibi look. The ff 1-6 sprites did not have giant head on small bodies and didn't look like bobble-head figures, THAT'S what chibi is
***** You too are confusing 8 bit sprites with chibi characters. 8 bit sprites are NOT the same thing as chibi and they do NOT have giant heads on small bodies
More like "Kh and ff had a baby". Again I don't see why he makes such a fuzz about the ff characters. It's not like knowing them gives you an edge in the game. Beyond the generic "ohhhh look it's Snow from ff13 I member" there is no barrier that this detail creates.
kind of missing the point. it's not about having an edge in the game so much as feeling good to see familiar characters. he's not saying that you _have_ to know them but the game may be easier to enjoy if you did.
Another bashing review... All that I'm going to say is that the game is really good but it was ignore due the chibi design, stacks and that it was released too close to FF15... This is my favorite game after FF6 and FF9 if you like the classic FF games (before FF7) this is not a 7/10 is probably a 9/10 game full of fan service and excellent gameplay. It take FF back to the roots and that is something that I have been waiting for so long...
In all honesty, he didn't bash the game. If anything it was more of a positive review than a negative one. He just highlighted certain glaring issues that he found. Also, he didn't give the game a higher rating because it requires knowledge about the Final Fantasy universe in order to enjoy to its fullest. I thought his review was fair. Also, in your defense, this is one of the reasons why I really dislike number score systems. A number on its own has no meaning, really.
I didn't think he bashed it. He said he really enjoyed it, though it might not be for everyone. 7 out of 10 is a good score. Games don't have to be rated 9 or 10 to be good. Furthermore, it's just a number. If you watch the whole review, it's clear that Jared liked the game.
Also speaking on what john murphy said, having watching Jared play through the whole game, the review accurately represents how how he was feeling throughout and the reactions I had and a lot of the other viewers. The game does look like a lot of fun, but isn't perfect. 7/10 is a very sufficient review.
"Bashing". Mate, this was a rather mellow and concise review. He expressed his points eloquently, besides the game is by no means amazing let alone perfect.
The Maxima version adds a bit more content, including a champion Medal for Balthier and Champion Jewels for most of the characters along with adding Cecil, Noctis, Firion, Serah (XIII-2), Zack and Y'shtola to the roster.

Not exactly....you can change between chibi size and normal size.....I like the chibi size because you can ride on monsters especially n battle the large ones like Shiva and Ifirit.
The Tidus laugh joke Lann made in Besaid had me pause the game and laugh for a minute straight.
***** Yeah, but a lot of games take these mechanics and try to pass it off as something new... Which it isn't.
mrguy22494 NO WAY!!!
But none of that grinding was necessary to complete the game.
Most of the mega digimons appear eventually as random encounters.
Most of them.
Most of them
SilverShion And ye those are much weaker than what you'd get if you evolve one yourself

Hey I recognize your youtube logo, its Victor from Soul Hackers. I could never beat that game, I got to the final boss and he just wipes out my party before I can beat him.
BOO!
As a fan of both FF and Pokemon, I have enjoyed this game a ton! :D
i rather just wait for Friday for actual pokemon game
kyotheman69 yup
Pokemon doesn't incorporate FF though... so why get that if you want FF fan service?
kyotheman69 Next Wednesday for us Europeans. :c
lucky for you guys it release on the 22nd for the uk D:
Anyone else feel like Squeenix is relying too much on "hey, remember that this FF character exists? It's in this game too!" Everything lately is just them riding nostalgia
Arcyne well considering when they try something new people shit on them hard so i mean nostalgia at least sells?
Arcyne This game is clearly geared toward kids who haven't played older FFs, so that's the primary angle they are using.
And their parents' nostalgia.
sadly, that's what FF fans want.
considering every ff game beside 1 is riding on nostalgia. then ya......... ^^;;
Giordan Diodato lol sadly? Sorry but as ff fans we want badass new characters and great stories but if they arnt able to do that then nostalgia is the way to go.
I thought stacking looked pretty cute. Why is everyone hating it?
I can imagine it being a little jarring at first, but apart from that, I don't see a problem with it.
yeah once you get use to it its no problem
Because it's cute and people can't unclinch their buttocks long enough to have fun.
Melodyofthesea78 ^^^^ Yes.
Just check how many of the haters actually have the game. Pffffff it's the common nowadays to have people bitching about everything
It's rather disrespectful to the character and the other perils they faced for a game that claims to be infatuated with the series.
he says people who are new to series didn't play older games won't understand references or know who these people are.
"It starts out light-hearted enough with having to collect four treasures of the elements..." WAIT A MINUTE!
for me personally, i only just started getting into the games, beating FF7 for the first time last year, and i still love world of final fantasy. its so chibi and so fun. the writing honestly reminds me of the earlier paper mario games which i also enjoy. this game for me personally has a lot going for it, but sadly with FF15, a lot of my friends dismiss it and i think this game should get some recognition. and it'll be on sale on black friday so i think for everyone thats when people should get it.
I loved the dialogue, story, and characters.
I thought it was a cute enjoyable time.
Yeah, I love Lann and Tama's interactions. They're so punny and hilarious!
+kainhighwind2 ....k...well atleast they appealed to some people.....some umm unique indibiduals.
Damani Campbell Yep, people who enjoy a story for what it is.
I just have a healthy appreciation for puns.
I'm done here ,the games ok but goddamn the cringe.
"Final Fantasy Pokemon" enough said with that one line.
"long cutscenes"
Kingdom Hearts. FFXIV
Looks at Kojima.
This game certainly does nothing to quell the "turn-based is for kids" assholes out there.
"...we'll never get another serious turn based/atb final fantasy."
Which is why they lost me as a customer a looong time ago.
I hope world of final fantasy comes to the switch as well as the dlc.
haha, it did.
The art style of the main characters reminds me of Kingdom Hearts.
If you can get over the chibi this is actually really good final fantasy game probably one of the best games this year.
Why does FF12 always get shit on? That game was leaps and bounds better than any of the FF13 games.
Username159 Square is even remastering it AND we're getting the Zodiac Job System version.
not sure why either.
9 was the shit. mr blaze.
"When he says the worst slowest start to a game and you think "Ahh this man hasn't experienced the pain of Persona 4! 3 hours of nothing except the X button! Great game though
firstworldproblems of America Hmm, and say more like 2 hours, but what do I know? I haven't played the game again in like two years.

Vita Island!
yay!!!
WH250398 I thought is was dead
Only in the west. Japan still makes a lot of vita stuff that doesn't get localized in the west.
Vita? I've never heard of one, but it sounds really disappointing.
You can set the battle theme? wuuuuuuuuoooaat!?
Stacking looks really fucking stupid
I'm not talking about the mechanic, I'm talking about how the models look.
Vsolid's Napoleonic Meme Machine I agree
I think most people are going to be turned off by it. I certainly am.
What's this? A Final Fantasy with really fucking rad monsters?
...
Oh wait they're chibi now?
...Oh wait they stack like fucking Legos now?
Just an example, really draws away from the almost-super-edgy Final Fantasy art style.
riding yellow giant chicken was badass serious ? I see what you mean but .... come on ....
Yeah, honestly I kinda hope there's an option to hide the models.
The major thing i would change with this game is scrapping mirage levels and having only your two main characters level up, with your mirages level and sp corresponding to lann and reynns.
This would give greater flexibility with swapping and changing stacks later in the game as you wouldnt have under leveled mirages in your collection.
Great idea! I wish they would implement this if they made a sequel
4:02 Gee an epic RPG where you have to collect four treasures of the elements, I've never heard that one before.
*holds up Final Fantasy 1*
WOAH, WAIT A SECOND!
zerolbez l I was actually referencing his Mystic Quest review (on of my favorite moments from it actually :P)
***** I meant the "WOAH WAIT A SECOND!"
It's so cool to see Jared do reviews again! I missed them a lot, even the One Minute Reviews, even though the TH-cam algorithm highly discourages them.
While the chibi forms may be for gameplay, I think they create an artistic disconnect from the rest of the game
considering most characters are also chibis its arguably the other way around...
I agree Square Enix chooses to focus so much of their effort on the graphical presentation of the game that the chibi forms of the characters do nothing but detract from it. They don't even look all that cute, they just look like dumb collectable pop figures.
Don't you want to collect those figures though? :3
Not really.
chibi form figures? naw they remind to much of those pop vinyl figures. Id pass, if they were adult form then yeah i would buy.
*Starts to cry* no FFXII? That's my fave
Why aren't many gamers satisfied with the long cutscenes???!!, I love long cutscenes, that's why I love games which have them, like MGS series, and Ashora's wrath, and many others. Sometimes, I love to watch more than playing, not because I don't want to play, No, It is because I want more cinematic gameplay, and less of me.
try cod
I like them to I love that final fantasy dose it a lot feels like I'm watching a movie and playing at the same time
Well, maybe because I'm buying a game, not a movie.
Idgaf what anyone thinks. The chibi Final Fantasy characters are fucking adorable.
That was a solid 9.
dude, you need to calm down a bit. people like you make this game feel worse than it actually is.

@@christopherbravo1813 no ody said best thing ever or that my opinion is absolute or that if you dont agree with me, you are a fool.

No, they're painfully dumb
I legit thought it was kingdom hearts when I saw Lann. I was like 'Roxas? '
Tetsuya Nomura aka the FINAL FAMTASY killer.
He's a one trick pony. I wish they'd get another artist. *****
Evilriku13
Yeah yeah, Final Fantasy Killer...
Even though it was Nomura who made FFV and FFVI character designs.
Anyone remember legend of Dragoon? The most underrated game ever? And one of the best story's ever!!
a bad plot in a final fantasy game................................never!!!
they cna have pretty good stories to them.
13 games are garbage with it though.
ten and seven i think have the better plots though.
thescopedogable BAD PLOT IN FF, BLASPHEMY I SAY, BLASPHEMY!
Hidden Flame
i have been playing it. think a massive part of it is the voice acting. specially the one for tidus
Am I the only one who thinks the main characters are Roxas/Sora and Nomine?
I'm not surprised since all characters from final fantasy series are here
The magi-tech armour in this game looks adorable!!
did...did he just not do a oddley creative score/rating?
Yeah, because it's just a review. Only ProJared series have those.
This is a paid review, he does a lot of them now.
What? He's done these types of reviews for years, what do you mean it's a paid review?
I'm just stirring up trouble. He says when it's paid.
xD chibi sephiroth, doing his fire walk was funny. xD
Fun fact:
Sora (the in most KH games protagonist) from the fan favorite Kingdom Hearts series will have his Debut in his first Final Fantasy game as a Chibi DLC.
That moment when the Tokyo Game Show Trailer of "World of Final Fantasy" was the add before the video XD
I heard that Cecil isn't in the game....I'm upset.
Oh He is
I'm a VERY big fan of pokemon, and I know stuff about final Fantasy, but I've never finished any of the games and I certainly wouldn't call myself a fan. But I still love RPGs. Do you think I should at least give this game a shot? Or do you think I should stop being the worst fan of RPGs ever and play some of the other games before playing this?
Thethunderstriker
I'm with ya on this and say give it a shot. However, its ok to not finish something but finish them whenever you got the time. RPGs these days require a lot of time to finish. like 3 months worth or at least a whole week of grinding.
try demo
as FF fan i don't know I'll probably pass on this, the chibi models very distracting.

How could you not mention how SICKINGLY ADORABLE THE MOOGLES ARE?!
Other than that - you hit the nail on the head! Especially about Lann and Tama..

He streamed the whole game.
Where? Is it on Twitch, or on this channel?
Marcelo Cabral Lima
Oh shit awesome, will go see if it's on twitch still.
Sadly due to time zones I can't really watch him stream live
A note from a Vita version only owner:
The voice acting is in Japanese if you got the Day One Edition and want to use it.
3 is there
he hasn't probably finished unpacking yet... remember he DID mention something about moving awhile back.
Dude that fake TV looks so weird. I would change it to something else. Great video though
No
If it’s any consolation Balthier is a summon. And who would they add from 14?
I thought I saw Firion, but I was mistaken. Adding Shantotto felt rather redundant too, but oh well.
Awww boo. Lann is the best.
I love these reviews, I was so excited once I saw you uploading these a bit more!
But you can fast forward, if the cut scenes bores you
Hey, atleast the game doesnt suck *staring at FF13 games
FF13 didn't really suck it was just disappointing

Just to let everyone know, it is currently on sale on Humble Bundle. I was debating on getting it so I came back here to Jared's review. Thanks Jared!
The characters are bizarre. They look like children with adult heads.
That's chibi style for ya
foreverokami16 I not talk about the Chibi ones. I'm mentioning about the girl and boy protagonists.
that's anime/japenese style for you
Rather than chibi or anything, they closer resemble those Top! figures you can buy that are similar to nendroid figures. I was glad the eyes weren't like the Top! figures though.
Yes, the same bizarre art style as KH.
12 though, yeah, would have been nice to have some of the characters from that.
lol are you calling me bitchy?
i only play it with japanse dubbing so i think i enjoy it more. whole for serial thing feels invasive though............. then again maybe it oculd be the point, its invasive.
no spoilers though.
also tama's speech pattern makes no sense when you listen to the japanese voice overs, cause she does not do the whole The thing. she just ends her sentence with misu, though i do not have a trnaslation of what that word means.
its like when moogles say kupo.
in battle it´s like pokemon... kinda but the evolution mechanic is like Digimon, I agree AND what´s even better is... you REALY can freely chooce which form your monster should have and it even remains it´s lvl 8D
In the german sub Tama's lines often end with "Jawohl" which in that context could best be translated as "oh yes".
+Chourtaird1 lol I didn´t even noticed that :0
maybe THAT subs are based of the japanese dub
Is wedge in it though
Ramen Bacon Not visually but you read about him and Biggs in notes helping you find the secret areas in levels.
No Biggs and Wedge, No Deal.
YES! YES! JARED PLEASE CONTINUE WITH YOUR REVIEWS! I MISSED THEM SO MUCH!
Mixing in the chibi art style is simply off-putting. I can get behind the default style, but the chibi just looks beyond out of place.
The Foxhound I'm the opposite, I really like the chibi style however, I'm not a fan of the main characters Kingdom Hearts like design
Bandicootfan63 it sucks
Bandicootfan63
Some people just don't like that style? I'm honestly not sure what else to say.
Bandicootfan63 yep
Yeah the game looks like it was made by a fan of FF
Solid and honest review. One thing I wish you mentioned was the tutorial cat thing...he voice acting annoyed the hell out of me. The fact that she kept saying "the" in between words made me wanna smash my head against my desk. I was hoping someone else would mention that lol.
14 more days Jared...14 more days until we see if the Final Fantasy series will be saved or plunged deeper into hell.
Miia they've delayed this game and hyped the fucking hell out of this game, and if Square does not deliver they are pretty fucked with this series.
well it has a perfect reason to have "Final" in the title, then. maybe now they can finally live up to the promise back in the NES days! :D
RoboGameBoy64 dont think so... the games sell veeeeerry well
Deeper
More or less the same level of hell.
God dammit no chibi fran is rather dissapointing to hear.
So it's Digimon and Pokémon wrapped into a final fantasy game
I wish more people would talk about the fast foward button... it works outside of battle too, so if you want to move cutscenes along without having to outright skip them, its awesome.
Thanks for explaining it. Since this game will be the first game I play after I receive my PS4 Pro :)
Unfortunately this game looks ass on pro vs regular ps4, played it on both and noticed the difference instantly.
That's weird how that happened, although the game is getting more updates, so maybe they'll fix it... I hope. @Avenger you'll be happy with it if you like FF games, especially the older ones.
Its been announced to get the fix this January
The sidequests are called miniventures. Intervening is just something you can do in the Girl-Who-Forgot-Her-Name's Tearoom. I actually enjoy the story, though the Lann moments got a mixed response from me. Some made me laugh, some were irritating, but at least Reynn was there to bring sanity and wisdom to the front; hence my never having facepalmed.
Will you ever do Bravely Second?
when he plays more of it
I actually really liked the story and goofy humor, but I completely agree about the exposition dumps.
But do they have cait sith, or quina? These are everyone's favorites, and they need to be there.
Also the moogle from ff6.
Mayor Milford Meanswell It's called sarcasm, but quina isn't bad though. And obviously if cait sith was there, it's summon would be directly ripped from its limit break In ff7.
Biggs and Wedge.
Mayor Milford Meanswell but cait sith is only the best character
Sorry, you sounded so genuine with the text. It can be hard to detect 100% of the time.
Jared I've watched 3 reviews on this game & had no idea what it was about til your video. Thank you
I feel like my appreciation of Kingdom Hearts helped a lot with my tolerance of the overbearing, lighthearted dialogue and visuals.
So then you hate FF1-6?
primeevil41 FF1-6 did NOT have a chibi look. Don't confuse old style sprites with Chibi look. The ff 1-6 sprites did not have giant head on small bodies and didn't look like bobble-head figures, THAT'S what chibi is
primeevil41 you do know those were 8-bit sprites right?
" giant head on small bodies" ahem, have you played the first 6 games?
***** You too are confusing 8 bit sprites with chibi characters. 8 bit sprites are NOT the same thing as chibi and they do NOT have giant heads on small bodies
Is the chibi design super popular in Japan or something? I don’t know why they keep using it with these spinoff games.
Cool. Didn't even know this existed
Well, thats because it's for the Vita.
Digit It's on PS4 as well
its for PS4 and Vita
Uh it's also for Ps4.
Jona Willekens Are you kidding? The TH-cam ads for this game were on EVERY. DAMNED. VIDEO. I. WATCHED!!!!!!
I think its important to mention the Fast forward button that you can use during cutscenes and dialogue bits.
So its pretty much a "final fantasy best of" game?
sorta. it does have like, two characters from 13 in it. lightning and snow.
More like "Kh and ff had a baby".
Again I don't see why he makes such a fuzz about the ff characters. It's not like knowing them gives you an edge in the game. Beyond the generic "ohhhh look it's Snow from ff13 I member" there is no barrier that this detail creates.
***** Incest? But they are different franchises.
kind of missing the point. it's not about having an edge in the game so much as feeling good to see familiar characters. he's not saying that you _have_ to know them but the game may be easier to enjoy if you did.
+Tad Dad Lightning is objectively the best video game character ever.
ProJared, your script is as sharp are your points are salient. Excellent review as always!
Punctuation.. FUCKING PUNCTUATION.
Here, use some of mine. .,'"";!?
Seems like ffrk on a console
im glad to see a final fantasy 3 character in there because the remake on the ds was the 1st final fantasy game i ever played and i still remember getting the onion knight job unlocked with my older brother
