I started collecting almost a year ago and the series I had first where Zom 100 (amazing take on the zombie apocalypse genre) and Dai Dark (because of the reason I loved the Dorohedoro anime, the creator, art style,...) Gonna start collecting Dorohedoro someday as well.

Honda-san seems to be readily available here in Europe - checked with Amazon and also a comic bookseller and they both have it listed as in stock or restocking. For the other series, it always helps to check if there's a localized version of it that is more readily available (in a language you speak) - Mushishi for example has a beautiful German edition that's in print.
The one series that started it all for me was Sailor Moon back in the late 90s. It let me down into a deep rabbit hole I may have peaked out from time to time, but never actually left :) It's only gotten worse ever since I started earning my own money after finishing university. Funny enough, I still haven't finished Tokyo Ghoul, even though I really enjoy it.
The “nostalgia” section is my favorite part as a collector. Picked up 3 vols of Zatch Bell and Bobobo-Bo-Bo-Bobo in the past month. Great additions.
It wasn’t a manga series that I read that got me into manga collecting, but from watching the anime of Bakuman. I’ve always read manga online digitally, but after watching the series and learning the things that I did I felt the urge to pick up a few volumes of series that I like. From then on I started to buy more, then more, and now too much, and the vast majority of my reading is physically.

I read some manga when I was in middle school, circa like 2002, 2003, but only really started collecting and getting super into the hobby after watching Evangelion and reading Berserk in the past few years. I would say those are the two series that were crucial to getting me back in.
The manga that go me into reading/collecting was actually Bungo Stray dogs. I really love the series and became obsessed so I had to find other forms of media to continue to enjoy the story a few months after i finished the anime. Which then lead me down a rabbit hole 🥲

Honestly the manga and anime I would recommend to anyone is Mob Psycho 100.. I feel it's criminally underrated and I've been waiting for season three for years now, and now that it's coming I couldn't recommend it more.
it's so good! Don't hear a lot of people talk about it as a starting manga - but usually once someone has been in the community for awhile they find their way to the series! Glad you mentioned it :)

I had heard of manga and I had a few stary volumes from my youth, but my gateway manga was MHA. It was the series that hit me into reading and collecting manga, and I'm still loving it to this day

For me the series that got me collecting was the promised neverland. I watched the first season of the anime on Amazon prime and then I got like 10 volumes of the manga lol. This was at the beginning of 2022 and now I have other series like Haikyuu, Astra lost in space and Tokyo ghoul. I have around 45. Volumes as of now but I am going to forbidden planet tomorrow so I’ll pick up more volumes then 😄. Also keep up the great videos!

I will say, I’ve had a little trouble finding anything beyond vol 3 of Dorohedoro at big stores like Barnes & Noble but it’s worth the hunt 100%!
it's crazy how different stores are always stocked with different manga - my local B&N had just about every volume available last time I was there!
The manga that got me collecting was Fruits Basket. I found most of the series at my local used bookstore for $5 or less. I did even know it was a manga, I only had the anime. I love the manga and was also the first manga I bought the fastest.

Well.. knowing your relation with fairy tail I almost don't want to say it 😂😂 but the fairy tail anime got me into collecting together with the Tokyo ghoul anime 😊 I am now also collecting a lot of other series like seraph of the end and fullmetal alchemist and so much more. I am so glad that I found the manga community!

I started with Battle Angel Alita, love the artwork and collecting the boxset was a no brainer, the hardcovers are beautifull.
Higurashi When the Cicadas Cry got me into collecting its rare manga, but now I have been branching out to other titles and I now have a hobby that I can have pride in.
What got me into collecting was Alita battle angel,it really made me fall in love with manga

I had been into anime since I was a kid and thought about jumping into it for a long time. My wife bought me a few Junji Ito manga for Christmas a couple years ago and it expanded from there. Now I'm up over 100 volumes.

Same for me! Fushigi Yugi was one of the first manga I ever read and collected, and it continues to be my favorite of all time. I've collected almost all of her English releases. I just need to catch up with Arata the legend.

For me it was Vinland Saga. I got into it because I am a fan of viking related things (books, movies, series). My second manga was Vagabond keeping on with the historical/middleages topic.
I used to collect manga back in the day (I stopped when Tokyo Pop canceled their Initial D run), but the manga that got me back was the Blame master editions, with Gundam the Origin right after.

my Manga start was blue exorcist. ive been collecting it for a while still got a ways to go to complete it.
When I was younger I went to a used bookstore and got some Ouran High school host club and tsubasa chronicles manga. I would collect them for a while then stopped collecting in like high school. I then got back into manga in college and I’m still collecting.

Vinland Saga started my collection journey. And yes the first volume I picked up is Askeladd’s cover. Then, same as you, I threw my money down and bought all the copies I can get. It WAS a lot of money for these hardcovers. But I love them so much

Gateway manga was one piece 6 years ago and I have to say it was a perfect place to start (mainly because of my age and my lack of awareness as to how long it was I just got completely absorbed and couldn’t stop reading)
I started with Dragonball, Sailor Moon, and CCS. I've gotten people into manga by recommending Chainsaw Man, Wotakoi, and the Eclair anthologies.
Your recs are very good for beginners but I think the Eclair anthologies or some similar collection of short stories about emotions should be added to the list.
Tokyo Ghoul was one of my gateway manga, but when I was younger SGT. Frog of all thing is what got me reading, haha what a throw back!

My uncle introduced me to manga and anime back when i was a teenager. He showed me GTO and I fell in love with the manga and bought the completed series back then... That was my gateway manga.

Watched the anime for Yona of the dawn and wanted more so that one was my gateway manga then the same thing happened with Dorohedoro and I was hooked

Honestly so I haven’t collected up till now but the first one I’ve read which was like early 2000s late 90s and I think I’m gonna try to collect first now is Astro Boy I love the manga and all the versions of the anime too!!
My first manga was the first 3 volumes of beastars. After that I read Uzumaki by junji Ito I've since then read some of itos short story collections. Which in turn led me to discover Orochi by kazuo umez. I'm a huge horror manga fan XD 😊❤📚
I got started with the pokemon adventures manga. It's a really good story that goes into darker themes other pokemon media won't ever go. The characters are all funny and have a lot of depth to them.

Well I recently started collecting back in March. So far I got Parasyte, Zom 100, spy x family and Promised neverland. Also just got volume 1 of punpun which I was contemplating between it and 20th century or berserk.
Dragonball 3in1 edition was my very first.. now i have 128 manga currently in my collection. Im currently loving Mashle Magic And Muscles i would highly recommend for anyone that likes any form of harry potter! Id even say it would be a great introduction to manga for someone who isnt sure

I first started collecting after attack on Titan season four part one of the anime ended. I needed to know what happened next! So there was my manga collection started. After that I heard chainsaw man was trending and everyone was liking it so I started collecting that afterwards
Another series I would recommend for beginners is Astra lost in space. It’s 5 volumes (completed) so it’s not super long and it’s pretty kid friendly on the side of gore, language and nudity, but it still is a great story and I highly recommend it to anyone.
All You Need is Kill is a great read for a new reader. Very entertaining and one book to collect.
Just started Manga collecting last June 2022. I think the series that made me start my collection is Kimi Ni Todoke. Meanwhile, my first Manga read that made me dive into reading is Hibi Chouchou.

The first manga series i started collecting was Blue Exorcist. But of course shout out to my friend who let me borrow her manga at school for a long time before I actually spent money on manga for myself.
After the passing of Kentaro Miura i gained an interest in Berserk and i started collecting the deluxe editions. That was the first manga i started collecting and it remains my favorite series

I started reading manga years ago as a elementary schooler and then kindah stopped when I got to high school. My first ever manga was Inuyasha and believe it or not I picked it up not knowing anything about anime or manga (I was a destined weeb from the start 😂). I didn’t start picking manga collecting back up until I finished grad school. Unfortunately, majority of the manga I had growing up was damaged due to a flood so I essentially had to start over from square one. It’s been fun and frustrating recollecting as I realized pretty much every series I want is now OOP 😂 but being able to build the collection the little kid in me always dreamed about having makes manga collecting even more satisfying for me 😌
(I'm a bit late here but oh well...) Black Butler got me into collecting manga in August of 2020. I heard there were major differences between S1 and S2 of the anime compared to the manga so I wanted to check it out. Now here I am with 198 volumes of manga!
Long ass Back story, dated a guy in in 2019, their fav anime was NEON GENESIS EVANGELION, so wanting to learn about what he likes, I watched all but the last 2 episodes because he promised we could watch them together. That anime triggered my love for anime and I went searching for more, the guy broke things off and we never got to watch the 2 two episodes.
I was in a really bad place and found Tokyo Ghoul the anime.. I was hooked and binge the first season, and I knew it had my heart and soul but the end broke me and I wasn't ready for the next season. I soon learned it was a manga first and everyone said it was better and the anime kinda changes from the manga so I should read all the manga first before moving onto s2 of the anime.. and cue my first manga- the box set of Tokyo ghoul.. but it didn't really trigger the 'I want to collect this button'.. i just like collecting things i like..
but now I'm in another bad place, last 3 yrs have been pretty hard for me. In the last month I stumbled onto manga videos and I was some what interested in reading more, I found Orange the full collection for really cheap on ebay, and I love it, then found neon Genesis Evangelion 3 in1 vol 1 really cheap, i didnt know it was a manga and as it had sentimental value to me I scored it for $20 aud.. I wasnt really the interested in reading it just owning it but then it got here and I skimmed it and I was hooked.. I LOVE IT.. and now I've spent a month adding manga recommendations to my wish-lists, watching manga haul videos and collection videos.
I already collected books and I'm an artist, so manga seems like a natural progression I guess lol. :')

The series that got me into collecting was BLAME!, but the first vols I got was vagabond 1-3 then the full set of BLAME! . I also got introduced to BLAME! by pewds some some years ago heh
My first was Berserk which is also my favorite manga. The youtuber I followed for comic book news kept pushing Berserk, so I was fine, I will read this. Not shortly after I literally binged read it twice, the mangaka passed😭

What get into manga was I went to library at saw Yu GI oh manga I decided to pick it up cuz I was a big fan of the show. And I read it absolutely loved it and that's what got me into manga.
The first manga I got were the Hellsing Deluxe editions. I had rewatched Hellsing Abridged (10/10 BTW) and then I started getting ads for the deluxe editions which I thought they looked dope and got them…now we’re here
Funnily enough, my gateway manga was Rave Master. After reading it I was immediately hooked and before you know it I started reading Bleach and Inuyasha… and my descent to the black hole began lol

Manga that got me into collecting... Contrary to my pfp and name, was one piece. Currently have every volume so far both the box sets and full series separate. It's alot. I would recommend it to anyone who's already started collecting for while cuz it's very long and alot of people may be discouraged from buying manga because of it. If you're wanting to start by buying a longer one I would suggest naruto but in general in my opinion for a good one for beginners would be chainsaw man or jujutsu kaisen.
Tokyo ghoul got me into watching more anime & Yona of the Dawn was the manga that got me into collecting :P

What got me into manga was honestly not even a manga. My manager saw me reading hp love craft and asked me if I liked stories like that which I responded with yes. He then gave me a copy of berserk and akira and that finally convinced me to commit to finishing a series.
