It's also related to the 4runner, which is why Americans call it a luxury 4runner. Not exactly the same platform (the GX is a J150, but the 4runner is an N280) but related nonetheless. Besides, they don't get the Land Cruiser Prado there. Also, Wikipedia says they're on the same platform.
Repeat after me: This is a Landcruiser Prado. Once Toyota starts removing features it becomes a 4runner. So a 4runner is technically a watered-down Lexus GX460/Prado ✌️ What's missing? Center Differential/Fulltime 4wd, auto ATRAC in 4low, KDSS, 3rd row, and all the lux. V8 and a 6 speed also.. Marginal, yet important differences to some...
I have a 2012 Lexus GX 460 my wife has a 2005 RX330 ,after owning 5 Land Rover products, OMG what a pleasure to own a Lexus , far better than the Land Rover
I like that the early GX460s had touchscreens. Recent Lexus models (the RX350 being the major culprit) switched to annoying touch pads and joysticks, a bad move for Lexus IMO. Also, the power folding third row is an option. When we were buying ours (a 2012 with that option), we looked at a 2014 with manual folding third row seats. It had a few red flags, which was why we passed on that 2014.
Peak Toyota. Reliable, well-built, practical, comfortable. Yeah, MPG sucks but it's not supposed to be a Prius. If you can afford the gas it's an excellent used car.
@Jonathan kinda... lots of important stuff missing from the 4runners... most notably the center differential (except the limited) and fulltime 4wd and kdss...
It's funny you mentioned it being bigger than a Highlander, it's actually essentially the same dimensions as the contemporary Highlander. It probably feels bigger due to the driving position and truck-like handling.
actually handles surprisingly well, it's not a gr86, but it's also not an f150 or wrangler.. But it is a body on frame, awd, with a 4cam v8.. the highlander is OK.. nothing wrong with it, but.. that v8 sound is intoxicating when you want it, and quiet when it's low revving down a highway..
I remember during the beginning of the pandemic. As soon as the president declared a temporary nation wide quarantine . My local police department went nuts. They began pulling over anyone driving on the road to check if they were exempt from the stay at home order. Thankfully my job was one of the few in which I still had to report for work. It's definitely a interesting year that I will never forget so long as I live.
Great take man! I agree with you a lot. I wanted an 08-10 lx, but I’m gonna have to be happy with the early 460s because they’re 10grand less, and that’s good mod money. I’ll graduate to an lx when I’m a big baller haha
I got one And there’s not one thing I DONT like about it! I use it like a truck(because it pretty much is)3rd row delete and pile the tool bags in. Roof rack ladder rack, 3” lift, 34” tires, 12k winch. When I slow down in about month from normal work. I’m going to fab push plates for a snow plow. I will post the build on YT. Find one for 20k with less than 100k and never look back.
stop saying “they’re pretty reliable” the GX460 is literally one of the the most reliable vehicles ever built. ever. Do your research before casually blowing through a weak review not knowing what you’re driving
It's not a 4runner.. It's a land cruiser Prado, it uses the same base frame, but it's thicker gauge metal in the frame.. it's not really a 4runner.. edit: not that there's anything wrong with the 4runner.. they are perfectly fine, capable, and reliable in there own right..
All three vehicles share the same basic platform, so while it is technically based on the Prado, saying it's similar to a 4Runner isn't that far off base
No, the Sequoia is way bigger and shares its platform with the Tundra. This is a luxury version of the Land Cruiser Prado sold overseas, which shares its platform with the 4Runner. So in a roundabout way it's a luxury 4Runner.
Actually it’s a luxury Land Cruiser Prado which is the smaller more accessible version of the Land Cruiser .
This is the kind of detail that puzzles me about Matt's reviews. How did that get missed?! 🤷♂️
you told the truth 😃 ❤️
Yep. In Australia, same body but with the same engines as the hiluxes
which is a 4runner. land cruiser is land cruiser.

And different body shell
3rd row is optional on the 4runner though.
Yes 100%, as someone who has had both this exactly it.
By far one of the greatest SUVs ever made... It makes the 4Runner look like a work truck

Never seen an Ecru leather interior that old that clean. Someone loved that thing.

I personally feel the 2010-2013 body style to be more attractive than the 2014-2019. The older version looks more rugged I suppose
I agree. I’m in the market for a 2010 model simply because of that rugged take me out to the wilderness look
Sweet ride , love the look and the reliability of this GX great review master
Not a 4Runner. Land Cruiser!
@Jonathan kinda... lots of important stuff missing from the 4runners... most notably the center differential (except the limited) and fulltime 4wd and kdss...
Solid vehicle. Best bought as certified pre-owned.

At the 53 second mark he says “pretty reliable, pretty stout.” I stopped watching after that colossal understatement.
Love my 2021 GX

Not a 4Runner. It is Land Cruiser Prado in a suit.
I got one

Have you ever towed with it? And if so how does she fair? I’m looking into one of these to tow a sub 5k lbs dry weight camper.
It’s just a luxury Toyota Prado.
What Prado has a V8 though? Lux Prado with more power might be more accurate 🤔

but why no rear locker. that's the only mistake
which soccer mom needs that?
Can't help but notice your radiator coolant leak - looks pretty bad
Isn’t this essentially a sequoia?

I think it looks kinda dated, but cool at the same time!
I see the Prado Police are out. 😔
Great video.
These are neary
Mr. Shooting Cars, I wanna a car to order for you, is from my country, 🇲🇽Mexico
