That Corgi is a model of the Type 34 Karmann Ghia introduced in 1961. The Corgi model dates from 1963. I much prefer the Type 14, which is the more rounded Dinky 187, produced from 1960. They were hardly sports cars, really… more ‘boulevardier’, I think. The Type 14 rivals quite a few other cars in the Auto Beauty Contest! Great colour: looks like a TL or a Beetle Orange, though you forgot the matching rust! Detailing a delight to watch, as usual! Lovely job!
Thanks Fraser, yes I understand that this one's nick name was razor due to all the angles, a very weak casting pron to the pillers snapping. All the best Martin
This is an awesome Corgi Toy, I really like Corgi Toys. The body and paint came out great. I have to warm up paint to paint here too(always freezing 🥶 here in Montana). Details nicely done! Black interior good call. Really awesome work my friend! 👏 I hope you have a wonderful day! 🤠👍👍
Pretty good restoration Martin on this little beauty, love the color & the details 👍, a friend of mine used to have a 1971 VW Karmann Ghia sporty little car, enjoyed watching Martin ole chum take care. 👋😎🛻🚗🚚🚒🍻😊
What a top job Martin. A nice Corgi quite unusual. Very inventive using the spare wheel to open the bonnet. Great details as usual 🎉 All the best to you. Cheers Chris 🇦🇺👍🏼🦘🍻🏆
thanks for the video, what a nice and pretty little car. good job, the vw looking better than ever and cool colour decision. yes, the interior in black is spot on.
Nifty job...... She really looks the part! Nice, early start too. Off to work now; have a good week guv'nor......I'm intrigued about next week's offering! 👍🏻👏🏻👌🏻
A fantastic restoration, Martin, it's a very nice looking car suits that colour, looking forward to seeing your next restoration all the best to you and your family.
Hi Martin to think I used to buy my son a new dinky toy every week from the papershop and now there is a suitcase full of them somewhere in the attic ,but they were fully played with bumps and chipped paint I remember a bright red London bus as we moved from London to Wiltshire, lovely video xxxShaz 😊
Wow. Crazy a Southern California native and with all the freaking Bugs and Ghias we had here in the 70's-80's I have never seen that model Type 34. Hell I had to Google it 😂
Hi mate nice paint job, there was a Holden colour a bit like that in the late 70s and 80s it was called, Mandarin red it was a orange red and it was used on a lot of the sporty cars like GTS Monaro, SLE Torana and the Sandman panel vans and Utes. I agree with you, I like the earlier model Karmann too, much more streamline. Talking about orange, I was out in my 97 Fairlane the other day and I got pulled over by the police. It turned out that on the indicators on the back there are those white lenses that need an orange bulb, and on mine the bloomin orange paint had all fallen off of both bulbs and they were showing white light out the back. He was a nice bloke and just told me to get them replaced, so I've been trying to find some for my car.😣 The old girl is 28 years old this year and has still only got 160,000 KLS on the clock, so should get a few more years out of her.🤔 Stay safe mate and I'll see you on the next one.👍🏻
🤣🤣 I had the very same thing but it was my brake lights the colour had faded, when the police stopped me and said do you realize your brake lights are showing white, and I said I do I know I can't flipping see them ,but thanks for telling me , he wasn't a happy chappie but he didn't fine me .
Another great restoration Martin and like the colour you chose , don't know much about the real karman Ghia but they look a nice looking motor quite a sporty look to it, really enjoyed watching this one as usual . Take care mate
great work, love the colour, it looks authentic. :) funky thing with that spare wheel, maybe they used a different tyre for it so it won't drop out? heh, last time I saw one of these castings at the flea market, roof and all bonnets were ripped off, so I wondered if there was a convertible version of it. of course, I never found one. :P
Thanks Lothar, it's definitely a different way of opening the bonnet, yes my spare one had the front roof pillers missing, a weak point on those . all the best Martin
Good job, love the Volkswagen cars, did you change out the windows? There is a small suit case that goes in the trunk too, but they are usually missing 😊
Thanks Jimmy, no it's the same window unit, unfortunately I don't have any suitcases to put in ,I might make some or get someone to 3d print some . All the best Martin
Beautifully restored Martin. But what does that clear plastic in the rear engine bay/compartment do - does it have some sort of mechanical mechanism or function?
No the clear plastic is so you lift it to see the engine, in the real one it was the engine cover ,so you could work on the top of the engine. All the best Martin
Blimey Glen, I have had that for ages ,to be honest I can't remember, I know it's not a cheap knock of that you tend to find on markets and cheap shops ,if I come across another one ,I will mention it on a video
Another great restoration on this VW Karmann Gaia to add to your collection.😊
Thanks very much Anthony glad you enjoyed it my friend
The fresh paint and details make this one another beauty!
Thanks very much my friend its really appreciated
