I was lucky enough as an Irish teenager to visit Zimbabwe in the late 90s. As you can imagine, for someone like me who had no exposure to a different country nevermind any direct connection to Africa, it was quite a unique experience. I believe I’d have gotten a great and authentic experience, my aunt is a nun and had lived there for 20 years at that stage and was completely fluent Ndebele, much to the shock of locals.
I’ll never forget being introduced to the music of Oliver at the time and have been listening ever since.
As a random Irish person I feel like I have my own small personal connection to Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 ❤

He is pleading with God saying (seiko Mwari) why God ,why God. I got one question which is (Tell me where i stand lord?) So he referring to bible characters who questioned God e.g Job, the crying of Jesus' mother at his cross. Its mostly about characters including him who failed to understand why some of things happens in life. Thus the first song's Key message.

Listening in 2023 and thinking of my mum. Only God know what she went through after dad's sudden passing on 13 September 2004, while she was suffering from cancer. She fought battles for us all alone and in pain. She fought to live for us, prayed to God to let her live a little longer until we were not so young. She was promoted to glory on November 23, 2006. The pain my dear mum went through breaks my heart to this day. In my world they will never be a greater hero than our dearest mum.

When I was a single mum in my 30s newly relocated with my son to Kenya I used to blast OMS music in the car. I installed a dvd stereo I the car after I returned from a visit to Harare and brought home several of Olivers music CDs. I even visited his music studio in Harare. It was part of my work evaluating a film and video project. That was one of the most impactful visits of my career. Thank you Oliver Mtukudzi for being my friend. For your comforting inspiring uplifting music and spiritual messaging. You have no idea what a comfort you were to me abd now my son when he comes home to visit wants me to play OMS music and another legend Cessaria Evora. These were my companions still are today. Love to your entire band producers and family.

People always ask me why I love this music. I simply answer them by saying music is universal. And it soothes and bring my joy. 😍. I grew up listening to Oliver and will forever love his tunes. Likes of Ndinecha. Anf lot of songs. Africa we unite because of your music. Weather you understand the lyrics or not but there's connection. I love you my fellow brothers and sister. ❤️❤️

Remember back in 2005 when I started my schooling career and I had to go and stay with my paternal grandmother. At home we only had cassette tapes and there was Oliver Mtukudzi, Celine Dion and Tupac Shakur. My grandmother loved Oliver because she related to the music even though she didn't understand. Seiko became the whole family's favorite track. When my uncle who works in Gauteng came to North West for a weekend or during holidays, the house would always be packed and after having one too many, they would listen to Oliver and cry. Those were the good days when R1000 was still enough.

One day i will write a whole blog post of why i consider Tuku’s music career as one that was holy spirit - inspired. Its only something that has been led by God himself, that provides emotional relevance across humanity regardless of race, nationality and social background especially even after the legend proceeds to glory❤️

True every song he sung has a teaching lesson to help someone about what they're going through in life. No vulgar words. No words of hate. His songs full are full messages of comfort through prayer. Apart from that one he says"You're old cool down, your full of wringles." Am not sure to whom he was refering to . It could be one of his competitive singer or president i dont really know. 🤣🤣🤣.

I am from Biafra (that's the Eastern part of what is Nigeria, at the moment), and while in Secondary school back in Warri, Delta State (South-South of Nigeria then), I can still vividly remember how I stayed glued to my radio set to listen to MUSIC AFRICA of JFM where I first heard Oliver's songs, especially Todii. I will never forget the way they made me feel good 'cos I am a lover of good music/tunes till date! I wish Oliver gets resurrected so he can continue from where he left off so I can be enjoying his songs again in paradise, honestly! He is a rare gem!
