    Just found your only video on youtube regarding this issue. After getting my 318D this is the only issue mechanics found on it, so I am very happy with it, also I am coming from 1.9tdi to 318D f30, which is huge jump, I can only imagine what it feels like driving 340i, but still happy with mine for now :D

    The link for the rear differential fluid that you listed for redline MT-85 is a gl-4 compatible gear oil but it is NOT suitable for hypoid gears and redline even clearly states this.
    The GL-5 75w85 redline hypoid gear oil looks like it should Satisfy the requirements for 75w85 GL-5 hypoid gear oil for the front, and 75w85 GL-4 hypoid gear oil in the rear differential.

    Sometimes when folks place a floor jack under the diff, they catch the cover and jack it up that way. That can cause leaks. Personally, I would have purchased a differential seal, vs using the RTV. Of course, it could also have been the crappy seal job done previously.

    • @NoClutchGarage
      @NoClutchGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That RTV is some of the best stuff out there for sealing these diffs. It’s why my shop uses it as opposed to what BMW would recommend.

  • @FabianCharrua
    @FabianCharrua 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I supposed all the little pieces of gasket and/or dirt flying into the differential at 6:19 means nothing to him not to mention no regard for torque specs of differential bolts. Additionally, the proper sealer for that differential is LOCTITE 5970. That other black stuff will leak again.

    • @NoClutchGarage
      @NoClutchGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Literally every shop I have been to uses SP103 because it’s better than the stuff BMW suggests lol, also, I don’t show everything but the diff is flushed to make sure there is no debris in the diff. You guys make these types of comments without accounting for the fact that I don’t really record everything if I’m not doing a detailed DIY. This is a VLOG not a DIY.

    • @FabianCharrua
      @FabianCharrua 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Incorrect or correct is a matter of opinion that's why you use proven products like Loctite 5970 but that's secondary to cleaning the internals. If he flushed it great but I highly doubt it. If he did I bet he used break cleaner which is the worst for the rubber on the seals. Just the way he sladdered the stuff on the cover is wrong but heck if you're happy that's what counts

    • @NoClutchGarage
      @NoClutchGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean you can doubt whatever you want I’m there the whole time my car is serviced and everything is done properly. I don’t take chances with stuff like that when my car is built for 1000whp, thanks for watching though!

    Slamming on the differential cover with a metal pry bar, using brake cleaner on rubber parts near and inside the diff, flinging gasket material into the diff when cleaning the mating surfaces, using the wrong RTV gasket material, not torquing the diff bolts to spec, oofta Mae as Derek from VGG would say.

    • @NoClutchGarage
