“More Insidious Than Fascism!” | Speaker At Brussels' Shut Down Conservative Conference

  • TalkTV’s Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by Ralph Schoellhammer, a speaker at the National Conservatism conference in Brussels, which police attempted to shut down.
Authorities in Brussels ordered police to close the conference taking place in the city on Tuesday, citing concerns about public safety.
Officers attended the conference, where speakers included Suella Braverman and Nigel Farage, but instead of closing the event down immediately, they elected to barricade the entrance, allowing attendees to leave the building but not re-enter.
Ralph Schoelhammer says: “There was a lot of comparison to the Soviet Union or Fascism - but t’s more insidious. Because in Fascism or the Soviet Union you knew that you were living under a totalitarian regime.”

Astonishing that apparently, the meeting of 100 (?) civilised, polite, law-abiding people wanting to discuss the direction of travel of 'the West' is considered a danger to "Public safety"....and yet here in UK we permit violent Muslims, shouting hate and generally being rather intimidating to be perfectly fine for the people of my capital city to put up with ! There is so much confusion about the meaning of far right. This term was applied to the Fascists and Nazis in the 1930s, but these parties were fully socialist, anti democracy and anti-capitalist.
You only have to read Hitler's words to see this, in an interview with George Sylvester Viereck in 1923 (that was republished for Liberty magazine) "We might have called ourselves the Liberal Party. We chose to call ourselves the National Socialists. We are not internationalists. Our socialism is national. We demand the fulfilment of the just claims of the productive classes by the state" Goebbels, the Nazi head of propaganda, pointed out this difference: "England is a capitalist democracy. Germany is a socialist people's state"
Heinrich Himmler, who ran the SS, said "In the course of history periods of capitalism and socialism alternate with one another; capitalism is the unnatural, socialism the natural economic system...The National Socialists and the Red Front have the same aspirations."
Mussolini opined that (after the War) there had to be a "world social revolution that will be followed by a more equitable distribution of the earth's riches" and also - "You cannot get rid of me because I am and always will be a socialist." His "far right ideology" grew directly from Italian revolutionary Socialism. It was an attempt to impose the Social Democratic program through dictatorship and armed force.
This has nothing to do with the sovereignty and freedom of the individual to disagree with the collectivism of the EU and modern liberal 3rd way progressives.
Regarding "left and right", both are variants of revolutionary socialist thinking. Some are left wing socialists and some are right wing socialists. This division began in the French Revolution and was cemented in the Paris Commune of 1871 - as branches of the same ideological struggle and was repeated in numerous speeches by Mussolini and others in the 30s. This was the reason why the conservative Edmund Burke repudiated the French Revolution as tending towards anarchy and not reform. The natural tendency of socialist revolutionary thinking (even by the Fabians like Blair) is the total overthrow by the state of the current order by any means available; in this way left wing or right wing socialist dictators are the same, within the same ideology.

I like Ralph. He's speaking commonsense. We need rational debate, even with people whose views we don't like, not shutting down speech just because it hurts our precious feelings. Facts and feelings are two different things. Please have Ralph Schoellhammer on again.

The fascists were originally far left. Mussolini was a Union man who split the Italian Socialist Party over support for WWI. The Socialists that remained called the Socialists that split the far right! Socialists do not turn far right over night, not even those joining the fascist party! Fasci literally meant Union in Italy at the time! A union man creating a state controlled syndicalist party, the fascists.

The Mayor of Brussels is not an outlier, not a one off authoritarian EU politician, because if he were, than an immediate denouncement of his actions, would have come from the EU Parliament, but only the Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, along with his counterparts from the UK & Italy, condemned the action. The UK absolutely made the right choice in leaving the EU.
