I've been djing on and off professionally for 18 years. Always wanted to LEARN to scratch so I decided to look up videos on TH-cam and yours popped up. I've been following them and subscribed and spending time on the techniques you show. I have always played about scratching but never got the mechanics down. I have improved more in one week than I have playing about over 18 years. GREAT VIDEOS! Thank you! T shirt looks ace to!
@@djcarlo Exactly the same ! I've been mixing for 10 years, all your video helps me to improve my skills, reconsidere some technics I've used, and learn more and more about djing ! Clear explanation thanks !
I love it when it's got substance instead of just being another show off scratch video. I liked the last scratch that sounds more complicated than it is. Thanks

Your style of teaching it's the best! The baby always sounds good. Thanks by the class
DJ Carlo Atendido good vid thanx very much ch from Korea! But Im interesting I have completely recordbox and ddj 400 , cant find preferense... when u stop play on right deck your play another than mine
I'm a beginner DJ and really appreciate your professional videos, they are very insightful and you're such a great and humble DJ. I like the stutter baby scratch because it opens up room to experiment with the songs and amounts of scratches ! Thanks for another helpful video !
Adding variation to your scratches sounds more organic. Really like the platter stutter scratch...something different, easy and cool to play at a live gig. Thanks man...you're rocking it! Just had dinner with Phil Morse at MobileBeat Las Vegas. Super cool dude, I can see why you joined the DDJT family. Hats off to you!
That was the illest baby scratch tutorial demo I've heard! That last scratch- the. Platter tap was my favorite. It has a kind of 3D surround sound aspect to it. Masterful bro👊.Many thanks for this tutorial. It gives me hope that I can do this.
Master Master Master this goes for all the beginning stages from scratching to blending. Mastering basics always makes you become better at everything else that follows.
Thank you so much! This video has got me so excited to start scratching. Honestly, I started DJing a year ago after watching your videos and I instantly wanted to scratch, but never really found a good video, but your one has helped give me that first step. Thank you so much
Came full circle there Oliver! Hahaha, but yeah, I have videos for pretty much every facet of DJing on the channel. Man, I'm totally honored as well to have been the spark for your DJ journey!
I want that shirt brother! I liked your addition of tapping on the platter to give the baby some more style. Also, making sure Master Tempo is off! Can’t believe I never realized that!! Doh!! Awesome tutorial as usual! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Dude that's tight the Las technique was one that not a lot of people use any more and if done the right way it adds a lot to the set keep up the videos bro thanks for sharing
How can 9 people not like this video? I just started DJ'ing as a hobby, 2017, and I love it! My commute to work is 1.5 hours one way and there's nothing like jamming out to your own mixes. Thank you for this video. You've gained a new follower and I hope to learn a lot from you sir.
Gracias carlos tu eres the best on the scratch techniques bro... This video in general was dope ... Muy bueno 👊 ... Those baby scratch is very good .... Saludos from California USA...😃
I do actually what you said not to and moved on from the baby once I got somewhat comfy but my timing is way off still. Going to spend more time on the baby for sure. I liked that last combo for sure.
Thank you ( Liked 👍🏼 and subscribed ✅ and I showed it to a friend who said me whe can scratch on a controller 🤣🤣🤣 My favorite techinc is the 5th "push and stop and push" because it's a new one I can add to my scratching skills to improve my live sets. I also would verry happy to were my pioneer t-shirt in those live sets !! 🤪🤣🤣🤣 See you next week
yeah tapping the jog wheel was great....i didnt learned that.m new to scratch....i've learned tear n baby.....but that tapping sound awesome. thanks for sharing knowledge.please do upload more of scratch tutorial...... if possible
Technique 5 is really cool and a great way to use the platter on these controllers. I never thought of using it to scratch, most of the time I would touch the platter by mistake and stop the track... lol Thanks for the continuous knowledge! Time to practice!!
Hey do you reply pls How does tracks start automatically after scratch (in rekordbox)? Mine is just scratching but not playing tracks after scratching? Pls help brother🙏🏻
right now im practicing some baby scratches and this video has come in handing. I'm using the DDJ-1000 so its cool to see videos when you use rekordbox.
I see you @3:06 talk about disabling the key lock or master tempo so you can change the tempo without effecting the speed of the track, if I’m correct. 😣 but 😩 what if you didn’t disable it, how does one know what the original BPM would be for the track?
Nice vid. I would always recommend checking it out in your headphones first to build your confidence. Another good tip is if you ever have to leave your decks for a moment (to go to the toilet/get a drink/ get paid etc) ALWAYS leave your decks with Slip mode turned on. That way when ass-hats from the crowd come running over and think they can scratch your tracks up while you are not there the music will not completely bum out.
Amazing video as always man! My favorite technique is the last one, the stutter scratch because it sounds really similar to a 1, 2, or even 3 click flare but it is way easier to master! It sounds great!!
This is honestly amazing. I got so bored with baby scratches I jumped to transformers and I recognize my transformers suffer from losing rhythm and I can only coordinate one hand or the other, but not at the same time.
great work carlo Iam watching all your viedos that's make me better by practicing each and every day my fav viedo from you is full series of scartch !! @djcarloatendido
is it necessary to look at the visual aid to scratch on a controller? or can you eventually just do it by ear? how do you learn how far to pull the platter back? great tutorial though!!
After learning about the various transitions you've shown and getting them to a "competent" level - I'm sticking scratching into my next to learn tool box.... I want to master learning phrasing and knowing when I can transition between tracks without clashing beats or clashing vocals. However, after I get transitions mastered - scratching is def on the next. I play with it at home but if I'm actually doing a set - those platers don't get touched.
The fifth technique is perfect to use with an acapella like a countdown stopping it between number or in other cases words, I want to put it in practice by the way nice pioneer T-shirt I also want it haha
Should you use scratch-specific samples? How do you know where in a song to scratch? Because the scratching sound varies a lot based on where in the track you’re scratching. I never really know where to scratch to align it with where I want to drop in the next track.

I love the way baby scratch can evolve to many cool sounds from it.
If I've ever learned scratching, it will be because of your videos, so I have to salute you for that brother.

I like the stutter. The sample fading gave it a sweet sound to end the pattern with.
My favourite is technique 5, I really like the scratch sound and the easy way how to do it.

Technique 4 stuttered baby scratch. I like it coz it's not boring at and i think it's cool to hear.
My favorite technique was definitely the expert way in which you folded that t-shirt at 1:15
I'm just starting man I'm 57, I got the Newmark dj 2 go touch and having a blast with this little thing thanks for the tips.
For sure broskie! And as they say, age is but a number. If you're 57 and feeling 17, it's still the way to go when learning new skills!
Nice and easy to understand 👍
do we add any effect or settings to do sctratching??

thanks for this vid. one of the most relevant tutorial for scratch beginners, imo. i like the 5th tip the most.

There's a +/- indicator right below the BPM in the middle. Just get it back to +/- 0 to get the original tempo.
Nice video Carlo!
About this technique- I personally think that baby scratching is the most basic and important technique to master.
So excited to start learning!
Excited for you to start learning too!
Simple and straight forward to learn. Thanks DJ_A
I want to know, why to need moving left to right the fadder, during scratching? We canot touch the cross fadder during scratching?
