    I downloaded Zip file of Magisk from Github from the link given in the description. It is version v25.1. While installing TWRP said 'INVALID ZIP FILE FORMAT. ERROR INSTALLING ZIP FILE" in red color. What should I do?

    Had unlocked my bootloader a while back. Uninstalled SuperSU because of the app restrictions, but then learned about Magisk so I jumped at the chance to reroot my 6P. Your video is great! Saving it so I can find it later. Thanks again!

    Late July 2020, this worked perfectly!
    Couldn't root my mate 20 Pro because can't get the code to open bootloader, so instead I dug out my my old phone and rooted it with this video and it was a great help!
    Only wanted it for AAmirror, so when on lunch I can go sit in my car play videos on my car via android auto.

    Hi MaowDriod,
    Not sure if you still read this, but thank you for this video, I just did it successfully on my old Nexus 6P and it still works! Although I used the latest Magisk version. I have a question for you, how do I install the Mock Mock Locations module by Xposed? Or is that not compatiable with Magisk?
    I basically want to use a GPS Spoofer like Fake GBS without being detected by Pokemon Go as I live in the countryside, what do I need? Some people say "Smali Patcher", can that do what I need?
    Sorry I don't know too much about rooting phones.
    Thank you in advance.

    • @MaowDroid
      @MaowDroid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thanks for your comment and I'm glad it's still working or useful after these years!
      Yeah lots of things have changed, but you can still probably use Xposed (LSposed is some kind of spiritual successor and is currently in development: github.com/LSPosed/LSPosed) and then install the required Mock Locations module (Xposed modules should work with LSPosed ones, but see if there's one specifically built for LSPosed).
      Smali Patcher is also another way of being able to use apps that mock locations without the system identifying itself as mocking its location. It patches a part of your system via a generated Magisk module. You can have a look at doing that here: forum.xda-developers.com/t/module-smali-patcher-7-4.3680053/ I assume Mock locations & Mock providers are the only ones you need to enable. Then use your usual GPS spoofing app as the location provider in the developer options.
      I haven't done this in years, but have a look at this section heading: "How to Setup Pokemon GO Fake GPS App - Android" on this site: devsjournal.com/pokemon-go-android-hack.html#How_to_Setup_Pokemon_GO_Fake_GPS_App_-_Android
      This would be done after you go through using Smali Patcher! I'd probably try the Smali Patcher method first as that is the one I'm more familiar with.
      I hope this helps out with your research, but as I haven't tried it before or in a long long time- I can't guarantee that it'll work, but it seems like it would.

      Hi, thank you for your advice on that.
      Before that, I have more urgent issue, I'm now having issue that when I restart my phone, it would ask me for my PIN, but it then shows an error like this:
      "Decryption unsuccessful", "The password that you entered is correct, but unfortunately your data is corrupt." and then it gives me 1 option to "Reset phone" and then it wipes everything and I have to repeat again, I've lost all the apps and modules that I installed afterwards.
      Please help me, my Magisk version is v 22.0, the App version is v24.1. My phone is Nexus 6P and Andriod version 8.1.0
      Also when I go to "Check SafetyNet" it is red and says "SafetyNet API Error".
      I've followed your instructions exact, apart from the versions, and it must have been working as I could install modules.

      @@MaowDroid Ok update, after trying for 2 days, I don't believe the issue is with Magisk, as I have now uninstall it. I followed some instruction on how to download the original images from Google Android site, and then I flashed the bootloader, recovery, system, vendor etc.. and then I installed TWRP to wipe my cache and reboot. After rebooting I set the phone up (eg. Pin, time etc..) and then restart my Nexus 6P a few times, eventually it will show that decryption unsuccessful message again, so could it be TWRP? Or is it just the phone data is now corrupted? (Even if I flashed everything back to what it was?

    I had already followed MaowDroid's video for installing the Pixel Experience rom onto my 6p before jumping into the root process. When I went back to TWRP to install Magisk I couldn't get past the encryption password prompt in TWRP (though I entered it properly multiple times). After digging around on the internet, I discovered that this was a known problem several versions back but could find nothing recent on the subject. I removed all security (pin, fingerprint, etc) on my device and rebooted into TWRP and was able to proceed. It's very possible that I did something wrong initially but I couldn't figure what it might have been after going back through the video again. Hope this helps if you are having the same issue.

    Wonderful Tutorial! Here's a list of recent setback that I experienced on Windows/my Nexus 6P:
    1) If typing in "CMD" in the Android folder does not work, try typing "CMD.exe"
    2) If your Android device does not show up in "This PC," double check that your OS is up to date and try to restart your computer
    3) When you are pressing down the power button and volume down button and the phone goes straight to loading your OS, retry by pressing these buttons down, releasing for 1sec and then pressing them down again, holding them.
    Hopefully, these tips will help you root your phone! Thanks again, MaowDroid (what is the meaning of "Maow" btw?)

    • @MaowDroid

      Some of it is true, some have been fixed in recent versions of Magisk. It's not risk free, or fool-proof, but many, many people have successfully rooted their phones with Magisk before. There should always be a way to revert it too, which should be researched before rooting, just in case.
      The only thing I've experienced is being stuck at the battery charging screen. I just disconnect the USB cable, hold power for 15-20 seconds and it'll turn on.

      As long as you have an unlocked bootloader you can flash the stock boot image and that should work out for you.
      Which version of Magisk did you use?

    Hi, my Nexus 6p has gone into the boot loop, fortunately, I had my bootloader unlocked. So I tried flashing the stock ROM. But that didn't help. Will flashing a custom ROM help me get out of the boot loop?

    Hello ! After doing this the phone is not reading any SIM. Digging around it seems that I need to reset modemst1 and 2 but when I try to do so I get:
    fastboot erase modemst1
    erasing 'modemst1'...
    FAILED (remote: Permission denied!)
    finished. total time: 0.020s

    • @MaowDroid
      @MaowDroid  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may need to use an elevated (root) shell (perhaps in TWRP) to use the 'dd' command to erase the modemst1/2 partitions as I believe they are probably protected.
      Please complete more research in this as when my 6P lost it's IMEI, and after a few factory resets (over a period of 2-3 months), it magically got its IMEI back.

      MaowDroid yeah it did thank you! It was a little confusing at first because of the Mac differences with the platform tools and finding the internal storage directory. I had to download an app for android file transfer but thankfully all’s good. One question though I installed Kali Nethunter and I’ve been having horrible battery life it does at 45-50% could that be a problem with the 6p battery I read there are problems with it dying

      Yes it is. You'll just need to unlock the bootloader: developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/unlock-bootloader/
      and since there's only an early stage unoffical build of TWRP, you might want to stick with using Magisk Manager to patch the stock boot image to root.

      Your camera performance may be impacted.

    • @MaowDroid
      @MaowDroid  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes that happens for some reason. I'm glad you've sorted out your issue with running fastboot on Linux, I previously ran fastboot as sudo (probably a bad idea).
      Would you be able to grab the log from TWRP via Advanced > Copy Log and swipe to save it. Then using ADB shell, cat the output and paste it here?
      Try wiping the /cache via the Wipe menu in TWRP, sometimes it happens because there is an OTA of some sorts waiting to be installed, but since you're in TWRP, it might not go through.
      If that doesn't work, reboot into the bootloader, and try using the 'fastboot continue' command.
      If that doesn't work either, try formatting the cache via fastboot: 'fastboot format cache'.
      As a last resort, you may want to try erasing the userdata via fastboot: 'fastboot format userdata' (this will wipe everything).

      Perhaps this may interest you if you want to try this out as it doesn't require root: www.techpluto.com/how-to-temporarily-change-android-mac-address-without-rooting/
      I did see a MAC address spoofer on the Play Store as well after a quick search. To be sure, you'll need to do some further research into the matter.
      Having Snapchat work would be dependent on Magisk Hide working, currently it does, you'll need to enable Magisk Hide for Snapchat and you should be good to go.

If you're just running *./fastboot*, then you might get that message. If you run *./fastboot devices* does that return your device's serial number?

    can not add drivers, even tried huawei drivers, I already have boot loader unlocked, won't recognize cable, I'm using a new nexus cable, can I send you screen shots?

    • @MaowDroid
      @MaowDroid  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think you'll need the Huawei drivers, either the Google or LeMobile ones will do. If it is a connectivitiy issue, try another port or cable, but you said you've unlocked the bootloader already, unless you've done that before.
      Sure you can send over screenshots, just post them on our Discord server: discord.gg/GDguYJ4

    Love the video thanks, but can i install supersu with magisk? If not how can i switch safely?

    • @MaowDroid
      @MaowDroid  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should be using either SuperSU or Magisk. I don't think Magisk will flash over an existing SuperSU installation (or a modified boot image).
      If you're already rooted, it's quite simple to switch to Magisk. Just flash the unSU.zip (forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63615067), then flash Magisk.
      If you get an error while unSU tries to restore your stock boot image (SuperSU's backup files from when you flashed it), try flashing the stock boot image via fastboot/TWRP, then install Magisk like that.

    Hey, thanks for your awesome videos. I'm having an issue - I installed the Pixel Experience ROM (forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/development/rom-pixelexperience-t3869744) and when I follow your steps (no errors pop up), it doesn't show Magisk on my phone after the reboot. The only difference is that I'm flashing the TWRP recovery.img file from the xda link above for the FBE version. Any ideas?
    The reason I need to flash is to attempt to modify the APN settings on my phone as I can't connect to the internet after flashing the ROM and Sprint doesn't let me modify them manually.

      @PatMx34 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      i dunno why or if this made any difference, but i tried for the 3rd time checking both "Zip signature verification" and "Reboot after installation is complete" (after clicking install in TWRP recovery) and it failed cause of zip verification. Then I tried again just with "Reboot after installation is complete" and it rebooted and Magisk is magically there. Might have just been an individual fluke but it works now

      Oh that's interesting. Just to reply to some of your points, I'm sorry for the late response, TH-cam has killed it again with their comment system haha.
      Pixel Experience requires you to use the FBE TWRP, so no choice there.
      Magisk Manager (app) sometimes doesn't show up after the first boot, you can reboot again or just install Magisk Manager yourself.

      @@MaowDroid No worries! Appreciate the response :) Unfortunately I had to go back to stock cause the Pixel Experience ROM didn't allow me to connect to Sprint's network :/ Thought it might be the APN settings but I switched to stock where it was working fine, copied the telephony.db file w/the APN settings to my computer, re-installed Pixel Experience and then replaced the telephony.db file in the root to see if that would work. Sadly it seems like the ROM itself is missing something that allows it to be authenticated on Sprint's network. Might be related to issues in this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/fix-sprint-data-to-custom-roms-t2541924 but not sure! Oh well

    any way to unlock the bootloader without using the menu? my phone will only get to the bootloader menu. it will not boot up. thanks.

    • @MaowDroid
      @MaowDroid  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you happen to have the bootloop of death? Some people have gotten ways to get the phone to bootup long enough to enable OEM unlocking. You must do that to my knowledge before you are able to unlock the bootloader so have a go at that: forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guide-fix-nexus-6p-bootloop-death-blod-t3640279
      To add to that, I heard from one post that they used a hairdryer to heat the phone just under the camera and their phone was able to boot up.
