Thank You, I have personally worn a Hirota Yohachi Special (Black Belt) for 28yrs now, and it still presents very well. I have also purchased a number of belts for my Students Including My Daughter 2yrs ago and will shortly purchase a Black Belt for my second daughter. These belts come well presented and stand the test of time... Thank you for providing a superior service and one I have relied on for the last 30yrs.
In my opinion this is a very helpful and informative video about karate belts. I have been involved with karate for almost 50 years and during that time I have seen a few and costly mistakes made by members. However I believe this video should help everyone avoid mistakes. Thank you for doing this video.
Thank you very much for your kind comment. I hope it helps avoiding mistakes: It´s not nice to be looking forward to your obi from Japan and having to realise later you ordered the wrong thing...
Hello, and thank you for the most informative video on TH-cam about black belts. It really helps. I am thinking about ordering Hirota's black belt, but there is no information on how long will it take to make one, and when will i recieve it? Also i am curious about how fast youhachi cotton black belt fades with time, because in one of your pictures black belt looks almost like grey? Thank you.
Thank you for your nice feedback :) The delivery time depends on different factors like the actual order volume as well as the processing time at the shipping company and customs office. It also depends on where you are located. I would say it can roughly take between 4 and 7 weeks until you would receive your belt. Your question regarding the fading also is a bit difficult to answer as it depends on how often you wear your obi... I think you are referring to my personal Yohachi belt in the video which I have had for some years now, wearing it several times a week. The sides have become a bit grey or thinner around the area where the knot is... The extra wide belts fade out a bit faster because when the obi is new, you have to pull the ends of the belt more often in order to keep it tied. I would guess that after one year you can see that the obi starts to get a tiny bit thinner at the edges around the knot.
I would have one important question. After getting my special competition belts from Hirota i noticed, that they are quiet thick. And while the quality is great and they are ideal for competition i need a black belt that is more funcional and does not hurt my back when rolling over it. Is there a noticable difference between normal and special? And would you recommend the normal one in that case? Thanks in advance :D
Thank you for your comment. There is a difference between the normal and extra wide belts, the normal ones are less thick. You could also purchase an extra wide belt with less inside layers. That could be a good solution for you as well...
Is there a complete list of all available colors for the embroidery (ideally with a picture)? Second question, should non-Japanese people have their surname embroidered before their first name?
Thank you for your interest and comment. Regarding the name embroidery: I don’t think there is such rule. You can choose the order according to your personal preference. Regarding the color: Please let me know your e-mail address or write to info@hirota-shop.com for further information.
Thank you, we are happy you like them 😊 There is no "rule of thumb" or formula as it mostly is a matter of personal taste. Some people like their obi really long, others like it shorter. It also depends on where you are wearing the belt (at which height). I can tell you how it is in my case: I wear my obi at the height of my waist and it is ca. 200 cm longer than the circumference of my body at that part. Then I have another obi (extra wide) that ends a lot higher as the knot is bigger... I hope this helps? Best regards, Stefanie
Thank you :-) It is not so easy to answer your question regarding the belt length as it basically depends on the personal taste and ways of wearing the obi... How long should the ends be underneath the knot, where do you usually wear your belt (around the waist or further down), how is your body built, which material and width etc. (Thick and extra wide belts do not hang down as much as thin ones of a softer material). I would recommend to test it with your actual belt as it is important to visualise it...
Hi and thank you for your interest. Please check our website hirota-shop.com for further information on the different belts available, prices and the ordering process.
Hi, I have worn my Hirota Yogachi Special black belt for years, but I have found that when training outside during the fine weather during the 1st UK lockdown that parts of the belt have faded to a brown colour - is this normal? Previous areas of usual wear have tended to turn blue-ish white, the brown colour is quite unusual? Thanks
Hi and thank you for your sharing. The brown color is unusual, most of the time, it changes to a rather blue or grey color. Probably, the sun had quite some impact and has bleached the belt.
Thank you for your interest. I hope I understood your question correctly. Are you asking which kind of belt turns from black to white the fastest? That would probably be a silk belt since silk is the smoothest and softest material of those available at Hirota. Please let me know if I got you wrong and you have a different question..

Hi, I am looking to purchase one of your Karate belts with embroidery. I am currently Shodan rank and will order with one Dan Bar. My question is, if I am successful in grading for Nidan in June 2020, would I be able to send the belt back to you for embroidery for a second Dan Bar? Thanks!
Thank you for your patience. Unfortunately, it is not possible to add an extra Dan bar. This is because the belt is sewn together after it has been embroidered for the first time in order not to have the embroidery inverted on the back side of the obi.
On our website www.hirota-shop.com, you can find the prices for the various Hirota products (for customers within the European Union). If you are located outside of the EU, please write to info@hirota-shop.com and we can send you our estimate.
Hello how are you? Excellent video explaining how to order a black belt. I already have a belt from my own organisation, would it be possible to replicate that belt, plus the actual label 🔖, with the emblem of our organisation? I was hoping to get the Kanji and Katakana embroidery of my belt, done in silver thread embroidery, however the dan bars of my rank, in red thread instead. Would that be possible? Also I assume that such two different threads colours, on the same belt, would mean it costs more am I right? Lastly do you also deliver to Australia? Thanking you in advance, Osu! 👍 ☺ ✌
Thank you very much for your kind comment. Yes, we could ship something to Australia. And it also would be possible to have two different colors for the embroidery. Unfortunately, I can’t give you a positive answer to your third question regarding the label. But maybe the Hirota label would be possible as an alternative? Please let me know if you have any other question. You can also write to my personal email address info@hirota-shop.com Many thanks and best regards to Australia, Stefanie PS: I forgot to answer: An embroidery in silver or gold costs a little more than one in red, orange, white etc... But it is not a big difference.
