Dude, you rock so much. I had read about this problem some years ago, and was thinking I would have to buy a completely new unit for multiple hundreds of dollars. Now you have encouraged me to get the kit and try it myself - I'm very good mechanically. You are saving us so much money out here. God bless you man.
Finally getting around to doing this job today. Many thanks for all of your help both past and present, Robert. May The Lord bless and keep you and yours my good Sir.
We opted for a Xemodex pre-programmed rebuild. Expensive at $550 USD but it did actually work without a trip to the dealer to re-program. Watching this video and the tight place the ETM lives in makes me glad I'm not a mechanic!
Im currently doing this project on my Girl Friends V70 T5. To soften the green rubber material, I poured some nail polish remover on it first. Worked very well.
Great video yet once again. I have a 99 V70XC and I purchased last year. The ETM was replaced by the dealership in 2014 and less than a year had passed but the change of ownership meant I needed to spend 1600 for the module and programming. I found a company in Canada that uses the same magnetic Pot for $550 with a lifetime warranty. For diagnosis I used an OBDII program and watched the throttle position go from 0 to 15% rapidly which is not normal. They will program the ETM with the pre supplied VIN. Thanks again for the video, this is certainly a sore spot for these vehicles.
Those pins are not soldered. They are actually spot welded! :-D . That's why breaking the "sensor" off is a viable option. A soldering iron WILL NOT get them to separate. You might just melt something along the way if you apply too much heat. Either cut them or brak them off just like Robert has done.
For all the skeptical people wonder if you need to reprogram the throttle body you will not need to with this modification! One thing to be aware of though when you do this modification the first few start ups of the car may be very very rough! Also the intercooler pipe that goes to the throttle body may be a bugger to put back on. You can cut the rough edges off of the throttle body side to make it alittle easier. Be prepared for some bloody nuckles for this job
I had an ets light issue so I did this mod. But now my car is running really rough... more than before the mod. As a side note I also had a bad bank 2 Oxygen sensor before the mod (the car was running smooth even with the bad sensor). I have not yet replaced the bad oxygen sensor after the modification. Now I am wondering if #1 the etm needs a reprogram or #2 is the bad oxygen sensor making the car run rough (even though it was running fine before)?
Thank you for the best descriptive video of this throttle body mod ! It's given me the confidence to attempt the same on my 3200 gt Maserati which has an almost identical throttle body !
As usual. Brilliant video. Excellent camera work. I think I'll try an etm cleaning first. Not sure if my soldering skills are good enough to attempt that tps exchange but thanks to you I see how it all works now!. Awesome!
Did this mod 3 days ago, car has been working perfectly for 200 km. Just make sure your ETM is in working condition and remember adjust the magnet to get the right voltage, otherwise it's a trip to the dealer to get a new program. Also, put sealant in the new sensors square part and rubber gasket, that's a very good spot for moisture to get inside the casing.
Robert you Rock!! I bought a kit to repair one and it just shows how to install it. I had no idea the side cover had to be de-soldered to get it off. Thanks for the videos.

Just completed this task. I don't believe the tabs are originally soldered. Seem more like a weld. Ended up having to Dremel through the pin #2 contact. The three tabs were a bit easier to pry apart since there was some leverage. Gasket sealer is drying, hope this was my issue. Being an Internet mechanic is kind of interesting, however frustrating at times. .

Robert, I just replaced throttle on my Volvo V70 automatic turbo-99 white label to yellow and runs very erratic now. Should ground cable be disconnected or just programming issue?? -Peter, Sweden
Sounds like you have a bad ETM. It also may have the wrong software. Did you check to see where that ETM came from? The white label is a remanufactured part, the yellow label is an original part.
@@RobertDIY Hi Robert. I used a lot of cooling system sealant. And now after the radiator is replaced I got no heat. So I figure the sealant has clogged thermostat and perhaps something else on my Volvo. Please, give me a tip how to solve. Best, Peter
I believe, the instructions for this kit did not say solder the hall effect 3 terminals. I didn't, the unit ran great for 1000 miles and then back to how it was. So back to soldering those 3 terminals and hoping for the fix. Note, the jump wire terminal is a bear to split.
Hey Robert! I had the usual symptoms of a worn out throttle position sensor so I bought that kit to install. When I took the old one off I noticed it was already a contactless, magnetic one, and not the stock sensor. I replaced it anyway with the new one I got, to see if it would fix it. But after I replaced it with the new one, I have to keep my foot on the accelerator and keep the revs up when starting it, but it stays running after that. However, I think it is in limp mode, it won't seem to rev past about 2k RPM or so. Not sure if you will have any insight on this issue, could it potentially be an ECU problem? (I replaced the TPS after I rebuilt the head, the battery was disconnected from the car for about 1 1/2 months, I know I also have a vacuum leak to fix, I know where it is and I'm waiting on a part to come in, and I have a leak at one of the turbo coolant pipes) Thanks (I have a 2000 V70R, I got it cheap, but it's sure needed some work, your videos make that much easier, though)
Fix the vacuum leak and see if that helps. There is a good chance that the connector is bad. Several people have had to replace the connector from the ETM plug to the ECU.
Yeah I might have to do this job on my Volvo if I don't want to send the ETM and have it clone with a new one 500$CND... Car RPM is acting on idle and going crazy when the car is either hot(I think) or I drive faster... I will try to clean the ETM first and the MAS sensor and will see if I order this part. Great video A1 will be of great help if I need to fix this part.
Awesome video, thanks Robert! My 2000 s80 t6 has started throwing a check engine light for ETM Faulty Signal and lurching at certain speeds, but I don't have an ETS light on. Is that related to this sensor fix or does that indicate the whole unit could be bad?
Hi great information. I have just completed the installation and the car is going well but now the cruise control does not work. any tips ? The car is a V70Auto year 2000. Thanks and keep up the great work
Man I wish u could help with my daughter's 2000 s70. It's doing alot. I'm having a hard time pin pointing the problem/problems. She loves the car. It's driving me nuts. 😆 but this video definitely might help with 1 of the problems
Hello Robert, i installed kit on etm following your video. Vehicle starts hard and battery with upward arrow light comes on while attempting start. Vehicle starts very hard and will not stay running unless one keeps foot on gas pedal. Not sure what went wrong. The one part of your video that is unclear is the hookup of the wire to the second pin. Is the wire supposed to be soldered to the bottom of pin or top? It looks like you soldered to top, so thats what i did. And you state that pins should not touch each other. I am guessing you mean the number 2 pin, top and bottom should not be touching each other? Thanks
Correct, all of that is clear. Also, the three wires on the other side should not have solder contact to each other as well. I'm not sure what car you have or what issues you now have but have you scanned it for codes?
I always see this method. It effectively replaces two sensors with one when you solder them together that way right? The TB manufacturer put two sensors on there for a reason. I'm still trying to figure out why. If it's for redundancy then this method is fine because the new sensor will last forever. If it's instead for improved accuracy (as many claim) then this method is sub-par.
excellent video robert ,,question i have a 99 s 70 non turbo sometimes it does not crank takes about 5-6 times to do so seems tje gas pedal dont work any thoughts ?
Man!! You saved my life! after 700 euro repair after i bought her, nothing!Watched the video, done it my self and the car finally worked :O :O!!No check engine light, but still have two messages - Emergency service required ? is this form something else? best regards from Bulgaria :)
HEy Robert. We just did this job on mys son's 1999 2.5. It had been showing the ETS light and occasionally running bad (lumpy idle, limited acceleration and speed like limp mode) but then going back to normal for a while. We swapped out the throttle for contactless, and now it runs lumpy all the time! I have done this job before on my own T5 without problems. Is there anything else on the ETS system that would bring on the light? Is there another potentiometer at the pedal that could be busted?
Robert thanks for the great video. I just completed this repair and during the test drive, the Volvo S70 started, idled, and ran great. After about 30 minutes of driving, the surging, stalling, and poor idle returned. I removed the ETS checked my connections, solder points, etc., and all looked good. Any suggestions?
Hi And thank you for your informative channel ,I am an owner of XC70 2002 and i had some hesitation so i cleaned the throttle and it was a big mistake because it cause now misfire wired sound ,do you know how I can relearn the ETC the correct position to fix this problem ?any tips
Hi Robert, great video (as always). I replaced the sensor and tested the throttle body before mounting. If I turn on ignition, the throttle body is clicking one time than I can see the butterfly moving / trembling slightly then finishing with a click while it closes. Those clicks are rather loud. Is this supposed to be?
Hi Robert, I've got a 2000 V70 base modelI purchased last year with low mileage under 95,000 mi. The car has been running very well the only issue is when I refuel the car will not start for 30-45 minutes after when I turn the key I get an ETM light. My mechanic replaced the vent tube(s) from the tank but the issue persists. I've seen some posts referring to the etm module as a possible cause. Curious to know your thoughts on the issue. Thanks for all you do.
I just bought a 2000 Volvo S70 Fwd Base model, and was wondering where to get wheels, and what are some basic things that could be done to make it look clean?
Hi Robert! I have 01 S60 base; this thing sometimes on idle, revs up without stepping on the gas; and lately it gets stuck on the highway at about 2750 rpm without switching into gears. Any idea what it could be?
Hello Robert, i have a questions. Does the etm on a volvo v70 2004 model have to be programmed? It is called 30711554 and is smaller than the previous model.
Hey Robert, I'm having issues with starting my 2000 S70 GLT. We charged the battery, alternator and starter are good. Going to check the fuel pump and relay after work today. Would this etm module be something that could cause my car not to start? Car was running 2 days ago and now nothing. Been having a lot of idle hunting when at a stop. Noticed yesterday that the ETS light was on for the first time when trying to fire it up. Any insight you could provide would be awesome, love the videos Robert! -Noah
Okey doke, I watched the videos mentioned. I never had an overheating issue before this incident. Before the car stopped starting, the check engine light would come on for about 5 minutes and then shut off. I took it to my independent mechanic and he said the light was just a fault but didn't have the equipment to reset it. I know my heater core is on it's last legs so I'm going to bypass it today until i can replace it but I've never had my temp gauge rise above halfway. Sorry for all the questions but you're the most knowledgeable on these vehicles from what I've seen. Appreciate your time Robert.
Alright, after watching several of your videos and through deductive reasoning i found the fuel pump relay to be at fault. Made a jump wire and the car started right up. Replaced the relay this morning and the car runs, albeit kind of rough. When in park, my Volvo still has a lot of idle hunting and almost dies at a stop light. Any ideas would be great, thank you Robert. -Noah
Robert what code did you actually get on this was there a random misfire code P0300? Or just a ETS warning I know the P0300 is random misfire wondering if this would be this or more related to ignition I have a rough idle Thanks
@@RobertDIY so Robert do you find that when there's a issue with the ETM the ETS light is always on? In other words if the ETS light is on you pretty much need a new throttle?
Hi Robert ! I own a 99 c70 turbo, it has the yellow sticker atm, if this kit , is put and play ones it's install? Or I have to re- program the system ?
I got a 2004 Volvo C70 what is doing when I spit it over when it's cold and acts like it wants to crank up but it don't it fires one time and that's it I change the cam sensor I change the crank sensor I have changed the fuel pump relay I have change the throttle sensor position with the key five times with seven seconds then hold it to the floor still not cranking do you have any idea what it might be if you can think of anything that you can think that it would be please give me a message back and let me know and I'll try to see the only thing I haven't done yet with change the throttle sensor
Hello and thank you for your many vids. I had an issue with my car. The idle was going down when i stop for lights example. I didnt have the etm ligh on that time but i cleaned the body anyway. It helped for a while but now my problem is that when im driving say like 60miles and i take foot off from gass pedal the idle is going between 1000-1500rpm and then settles somewhere near 1200rpm. And sometimes the etm ligh comes but not for few weeks now and i drive the car every day. Is it possible that the whole etm unit is bad or just the throttle position sensor. Car is 1999 Volvo V70. And i also tried old etm from 2000 S70 but it didnt work at all, idle was going up and down. Should i get it new programming. Sorry my english not the best. Greetings from Finland
Hi great information. I have just completed the installation and the car is going well but now the cruise control does not work. any tips ? Thanks and keep up the great work.
Hey Robert, I own a 2001 V70 with B5244s engine which does an slight idle variation from 850-950 rpm sometimes, but not always. There is no ETM failure code stored. But could this repair possibly fix the funny idling issue on my car? Cheers
Robert, The throttle body installed on my 1999 V70 failed, and so I replaced it with a throttle body from a newer Volvo. Apparently the part numbers are different though, and the new one can't be reprogrammed to work in my vehicle. Is it possible to remove the sensors from my old throttle body and install them on the new one? I can't seem to find any info on this.
Hmmm. ... I did exactly this, and ended up with DTC. ECM-9150 and ECM-9160. The butterfly plate will not move at all after my little operation.... Any thoughts about what may have happened? Great video anyway! Thank you!
I solved the problem. I swapped the original circuit board to another housing so it ended up with the original sensors. Back to square one, without a contactless sensor. Now the car runs.
Oddly enough in the beginning his car odometer was reading 181xxx and after he supposedly fixed it, at the end the odometer read around 130xxx how’s that work less u rolling mills back on the car to flip for money or u couldn’t fix it so u got in to another similar one
I take it an S60 2003 has no throttle position sensor just an accelerator position sensor and a camshaft and crankshaft position sensors. Think the s60 did away with the throttle position sensor in 2002.
What name you order the contactless so im gonna order because i see the ETS lights and check engine is on. And not enough power while driving and sometimes if the engine turns off verry hard to start and the other day 1click start and the rpm is up and down rough idling and i need to mod.may ets just like you fix
Could this cause a p0014 fault code on c70 phase 1 me7 2.3T ( peformance or timing issue) timing is fine. Mine hunts at idle and delays boost. I release throttle and back to W.O.T and will boost fine.
Well last night we installed it and it ran fine. We left he plate open over night since we didn't have good materials to close it. This morning I started it up and it went back to bein weird. If install that plate tonight and let it dry should that fix the issue?
@@RobertDIY thanks I'll be watching this video another 20 times. Hopefully it lasts until I get my 850 going. Then I'll have the spare. Since my son will be getting the na s70.
hi Robert, 1996 850R, i just had trouble with it last week running bad then did not start, watched your vid , we worked out thatit maybe fuel pump relay ,put new one on , but still no petrol so replaced fuel pump, now it starts but has trouble idling but ok when it warms up, so is there a cold start sensor on these and where is it located
thankyou Robert , im wondering if its something electronic though. when i start it from cold i have to regulate the revs with my foot on the throttle to keep it going until it runs on its own which takes about a minute, but while that is happening there is a noise that sounds like a relay buzzing quite loudly , the sound starts off low pitched and gets higher and higher pitched and at the same time gets quieter until it disappears. when you cant hear it anymore thats when it starts running correctly. have you ever known anything like that ?. By the way , your videos are really appreciated here in the U.K.
Robert DIY oh wow I have similar issues but without the sound. Your videos are definitely a great service to everyone worldwide Robert. Can’t tell you how much I love and appreciate your help and support through your videos and comments, links. Peace Love and God Bless Brother.
Hello! I have a 1999 Volvo s70, it has the ETS Light on and is doing the "Limp Mode" thing. I did contactless TPS mod and its still doing the limp mode thing. what is my course of action from here? thanks in advance!

It also shows how to calibrate the position of the magnet so that the output voltage matches your original. Robert DIY no idea just know I'm experiencing the problems your showing it shakes while it's idle if I hit the gas all the way it won't go pass 15 mph I'll turn it off and on off and on and eventually it'll run. Just know the check engine code is ringing up the throttle position sensor is bad don't know if that helps

Key reason I want an older 850😡. I have a P2 and it’s been a pain in the butt since I got it.
ouch
Thanks Robert! Great video! This is a life saver!! Thank you so much!
You are welcome.
Awesome explanation thanks

Hello from Germany. You're know how are great. 😃👍🏼
Thanks for watching
Yeah I might have to do this job on my Volvo if I don't want to send the ETM and have it clone with a new one 500$CND... Car RPM is acting on idle and going crazy when the car is either hot(I think) or I drive faster... I will try to clean the ETM first and the MAS sensor and will see if I order this part. Great video A1 will be of great help if I need to fix this part.
Thanks for watching.
I did the job and the car rev up super high then dies.... any idea ??? th-cam.com/video/C0v2kh0r01s/w-d-xo.html
Awesome video, thanks Robert! My 2000 s80 t6 has started throwing a check engine light for ETM Faulty Signal and lurching at certain speeds, but I don't have an ETS light on. Is that related to this sensor fix or does that indicate the whole unit could be bad?

Thanks, good and clear video !

Well done Robert!!! I needed this!
+Michael Morgan hope it works out for you
Thank you for such a helpful vid!

where do you get the contact-less kit from?
Hi great information. I have just completed the installation and the car is going well but now the cruise control does not work. any tips ? The car is a V70Auto year 2000. Thanks and keep up the great work
No I don't. Any codes?
My OBD scanner is not detecting any codes so I will try the specialist. Thanks again
this happend to us as well, did you figure out what caused the problem?
Man I wish u could help with my daughter's 2000 s70. It's doing alot. I'm having a hard time pin pointing the problem/problems. She loves the car. It's driving me nuts. 😆 but this video definitely might help with 1 of the problems
I hear you.
I'm not sure what car you have or what issues you now have but have you scanned it for codes?
th-cam.com/video/cWKOi8D4SWQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yZUQ_0UgFyD1dyYw
I recently posted a video talking about the number of issues these etms have so you might want to look that up and see if any of that applies.
You always have the option of paying $1,000 for a new assembly. Then another $350 to have it programmed.
I just ordered a new maf for 30$ online and the stealership wanted 280$$ 😄 about to just go buy a TB now i know it can be a problem in the future
A junk MAF?
@@RobertDIY no its new from ebay i ran the part number to and its a maf for a s40

What was the orange light on the left in the last split second of the video...?
🤷🏾♂️
hey, how long did the job take and if you dont do the repair can you try additives to help with the seal
How long did what job take? What seals are you referring to?
As long as it's cheaper then the stealership/auto parts store, i would do it.
LOL, much cheaper.

excellent video robert ,,question i have a 99 s 70 non turbo sometimes it does not crank takes about 5-6 times to do so seems tje gas pedal dont work any thoughts ?
Cranking means the engine is turning but it won't start or run. If it's not cranking that means the vehicle is dead.

Probably, have it scanned for codes.
Is there another potentiometer at the pedal that could be busted?
what codes are in the system?
th-cam.com/video/cWKOi8D4SWQ/w-d-xo.html
Robert thanks for the great video. I just completed this repair and during the test drive, the Volvo S70 started, idled, and ran great. After about 30 minutes of driving, the surging, stalling, and poor idle returned. I removed the ETS checked my connections, solder points, etc., and all looked good. Any suggestions?
Mating gasket. If that doesn't help you likely need to replace it.
Hi And thank you for your informative channel ,I am an owner of XC70 2002 and i had some hesitation so i cleaned the throttle and it was a big mistake because it cause now misfire wired sound ,do you know how I can relearn the ETC the correct position to fix this problem ?any tips
Sad to say, I do not.
I have no idea
Hello brother, I have a problem with the volvo s80 T6 2.9 of the year 2000 with the ETM (8644347). I can't find the auto part. help me..!!!
Did you contact XeModeX?
Hi Robert, I've got a 2000 V70 base modelI purchased last year with low mileage under 95,000 mi. The car has been running very well the only issue is
when I refuel the car will not start for 30-45 minutes after when I turn the key I get an ETM light. My mechanic replaced the vent tube(s) from the tank but the issue persists. I've seen some posts referring to the etm module as a possible cause. Curious to know your thoughts on the issue. Thanks for all you do.

huh?

I just bought a 2000 Volvo S70 Fwd Base model, and was wondering where to get wheels, and what are some basic things that could be done to make it look clean?
Internet. Wash, wax, and detail it.
Hi Robert!
I have 01 S60 base; this thing sometimes on idle, revs up without stepping on the gas; and lately it gets stuck on the highway at about 2750 rpm without switching into gears. Any idea what it could be?

Hi Robert!
Is it possible to get one of this ETM with number 36050563 on junkyard? how much does it usually costs on junkyard? Thanks.
About $35.
@@RobertDIY Can one from another car of same make an model work from a salvage yard with out a program
Hello Robert, i have a questions. Does the etm on a volvo v70 2004 model have to be programmed? It is called 30711554 and is smaller than the previous model.
I don't think so. There is likely a dial in procedure. You can ask a Volvo mechanic on Volvospeed FB page.
Thanks Robert!!!@@RobertDIY
I did this mod and the car workt for a couple of weeks. But now the ets light is back. Can it be something more wrong with the throttle module?
Could be a few things, including an issue with the wire harness to the ECU.
-Noah
Yes it can.

th-cam.com/video/NhtUXZTurzo/w-d-xo.html
-Noah
My car 1999 c70 has the ets light on but no rough idle it has experienced a drop in mpg and feels a bit sluggish? Any ideas?
It's bad.

@@RobertDIY thank you
Hi Robert, would this work on the C70 Coupe as well? Regards
If it has an ETM.
Robert what code did you actually get on this was there a random misfire code P0300? Or just a ETS warning I know the P0300 is random misfire wondering if this would be this or more related to ignition I have a rough idle Thanks
ETS light and not running smooth.
Should not have to reprogram.

Whats in the other end of the etm?
Theres another black cover held by 4 screws.

@@RobertDIY 😆 true! I repaired mine and it behaved for a week maximum then back to it’s old ways. I had to ask!
I would have done what this video showed.
Hi great information. I have just completed the installation and the car is going well but now the cruise control does not work. any tips ? Thanks and keep up the great work.
+eddie jackson what kind of car do you have?
Hi Robert the car is a 2000 V70 auto. And the cruise control was fine before I fitted the unit. Thanks
Could you switch to a cable operated throttle body on this car?
no.
Love U Rob!
Thanks.
Will this work in a 2000 C70 with the WHITE label ETM?
Yes.
Hey Robert, I own a 2001 V70 with B5244s engine which does an slight idle variation from 850-950 rpm sometimes, but not always. There is no ETM failure code stored. But could this repair possibly fix the funny idling issue on my car? Cheers
Maybe a vacuum issue or something.
Robert,
The throttle body installed on my 1999 V70 failed, and so I replaced it with a throttle body from a newer Volvo. Apparently the part numbers are different though, and the new one can't be reprogrammed to work in my vehicle. Is it possible to remove the sensors from my old throttle body and install them on the new one? I can't seem to find any info on this.
The video has my recommendations.
Hmmm. ... I did exactly this, and ended up with DTC. ECM-9150 and ECM-9160. The butterfly plate will not move at all after my little operation.... Any thoughts about what may have happened?
Great video anyway! Thank you!
Not really. Is it getting power?
@@RobertDIY As far as I know it does. I will check again though.. I will let you know if (when?) I find out what´s wrong with it.
Who said it was the same car?
Hi Robert ! How much would you charge me to do the this job? My car is a 2000 S70 GLT with 73,000 miles . I live in ABQ .
$50 An hour. Should take 2 or 3 hours. Cost estimates are in the comments section.
I take it an S60 2003 has no throttle position sensor just an accelerator position sensor and a camshaft and crankshaft position sensors. Think the s60 did away with the throttle position sensor in 2002.
Huh? It's in the ETM.
Hi i have a problem for my volvo s70 idling is up and very down untill turning off and low power 2,800 rpm and have check engine light and ets light

What is the exact parts name so i buy thankyou for response
Hi, how did you reload the ETM program ? With VIDA DICE ? :)
Didn't have to reload the software. I only changed the contact on the ETM.
Could this cause a p0014 fault code on c70 phase 1 me7 2.3T ( peformance or timing issue) timing is fine. Mine hunts at idle and delays boost. I release throttle and back to W.O.T and will boost fine.
Maybe.
Well last night we installed it and it ran fine. We left he plate open over night since we didn't have good materials to close it. This morning I started it up and it went back to bein weird. If install that plate tonight and let it dry should that fix the issue?
+Matt Krugman why did you mess with it after it ran fine? Not sure what you mean by "left the plate open"?
Thanks so much

Did you know that this throttle body is also used by Maserati and that no less than 4 of them are assembled onto the Lamborghini V12?
+AZA M no I didn't. 🤔
Hi Rob.. Where do you purchase the kit from. I can't seem to find them.

Robert DIY thanks so much!
ARD has closed down...
Can i just replace the throttle position sensor? or Do I have to do the mod? Is the mod just so it doesnt happen again or is it aboslutoley necesary?
the MOD is replacing the TPS.
You can replace the tps with an identical one but it will break again after some time, the mod is definitely the better option
I am experiencing little bit of idle glitches @ constant speed. It's weird. I'm thinking my etm is going out. Thoughts? Coils are new.

hi Robert, 1996 850R, i just had trouble with it last week running bad then did not start, watched your vid , we worked out thatit maybe fuel pump relay ,put new one on , but still no petrol so replaced fuel pump, now it starts but has trouble idling but ok when it warms up, so is there a cold start sensor on these and where is it located
ECT
thankyou Robert , im wondering if its something electronic though. when i start it from cold i have to regulate the revs with my foot on the throttle to keep it going until it runs on its own which takes about a minute, but while that is happening there is a noise that sounds like a relay buzzing quite loudly , the sound starts off low pitched and gets higher and higher pitched and at the same time gets quieter until it disappears. when you cant hear it anymore thats when it starts running correctly. have you ever known anything like that ?.
By the way , your videos are really appreciated here in the U.K.
th-cam.com/video/8xIi3_n5vsQ/w-d-xo.html
Noise may be a bad timing belt part about to fail and destroy the engine.

Hello! I have a 1999 Volvo s70, it has the ETS Light on and is doing the "Limp Mode" thing. I did contactless TPS mod and its still doing the limp mode thing. what is my course of action from here? thanks in advance!
+Groundbrekr is the ETS light still on? You may have some other issue.
Yes, after the mod the ETS light is still on... what things should I start testing?
+Groundbrekr you probably need a replacement etm.
There are other ways the ETM can fail. Please check out the link below. It gives detailed instructions to test your module. It also shows how to calibrate the position of the magnet so that the output voltage matches your original. Where can I find a tamper proof 6side torque bit
All hardware stores like Home Depot and auto parts stores.
I have a s80 Volvo 2000 check engine on got it checked said it was the TPS so do I have to replace the sensor? Or the whole throttle body if that Wat its called?? Not too familiar with fixing cars but they Wana charge 540$ for the part itself...
+Salvador Ferreira is it part of the gas pedal?
Robert DIY no idea just know I'm experiencing the problems your showing it shakes while it's idle if I hit the gas all the way it won't go pass 15 mph I'll turn it off and on off and on and eventually it'll run. Just know the check engine code is ringing up the throttle position sensor is bad don't know if that helps
+Salvador Ferreira what is the code number?
+Salvador Ferreira could also be a fuse.
Robert DIY hopefully this is the code. P0121 says throttle/pedal position sensor A circuit range/performance
