    I'm learning to sing, and what I've seen online is kinda strange. Most vocal teachers promise instant results and say this or that about who they've trained, but none of it is really believable. Ken says this will take a long time, he has videos of him putting his money where his mouth is, and shows some of his students. This is probably the most reliable channel to try and learn to sing from, because it's not a "perfect drug" style of teaching. Thanks Ken.

    Belting is a really cool sound when used in the right songs! But I think that going to high notes whithout shouting and while maintaining good cord closure (without breaks) is way more difficult...may be, if you have the time, you could make a video about the opposit if belting, I don't know exactly what it's called, mezzo voce I guess I'm not sure...all I know is that it's really not easy.

The things I sing today blow my mind that I'm able to do it and it's all because of your techniques that I learned.... please talk about your cousin Sammy more... I think he has one of the best voices I've ever heard... I'd be very interested to hear how it came to be that great

    So much truth. One thing I have experienced over the years of hobby singing is how I went from pretty much screaming in which my voice was gone in a song or 2 to hearing my voice almost belt the sound out for me - it's almost spooky sometimes. Unlike you, I haven't been able to put it to words, but things like opening my throat for resonance, using less air during held notes rather than more, and muscle memory seem to be happening. Over the years, I have found that I have been able to go from holding a note for a few seconds to 8 - 10 seconds or more. I always assumed it was from having more air to dispel, but as you say, it is from controlling the air and letting out very little during sustained notes that allows me to hold them longer and longer. It's amazing what happens sometimes when you work hard at something, but don't really know exactly what is going on. Somehow, I'm pretty sure that your guidance has helped me become a better singer since I discovered your channel some 6 months to a year ago. I always thought that I couldn't do any kind of rock singing because I didn't have the voice and the range, but apparently it was because I was "trying too hard" if that makes sense. First you taught me to relax, open wide, and let it happen. It's weird at first, as the sound of my singing seemed a bit off, but over time it becomes part of your singing style and it sounds better than I originally thought I did. Thanks for all the guidance, and keep up the great work! Love your channel!

I've been wanting to take the course since I discovered Ken almost a year ago, but could never afford it either. But this $50 off puts it into the marginally affordable range and I might actually go for it this time. I hope you can too. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!

    Hey Ken, i know this is a bit off topic but, do you happen to know and have you heard Avenged Sevenfold? And if you do, what are your thoughts on Matt Shadows technique? Is he a goold belter? Does he seem to know what he's doing with distorting his voice? I ask this cause i really like the way he sounds, but not sure if his sound is one i should be looking for

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I know Matt Sanders. We used to live next to each other in Orange County. Matt has lost his voice many times and now has adifficult time singing clean and on pitch. While Matt and I studied under the same well known coach in LA (I have studied under many) he has had a tough time holding on to scream.

    • @jayp5146
      @jayp5146 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohhh you know him, cool. is he a cool guy? :D
      Ive actually learned recently how to scream, and boy is it fun, but as ive heard from many people its bad for your voice, ive only been doing like a handful of screams just to get a grip of the technique, doing the bare minimum effort to actually produce the volume on the scream, and so far so good, but i can see how the amount of air can really dry the folds and mess things up. Is there a safe way to scream? Is it like distortion but harder? Or is it a different beast entirely?
      PS: Can´t thank you enough for everything you´ve done...really, you would be reading this all day :)

    i have a small question but one that is I think importain. Singing from the back of your throat as you were mentioning. Here is My difficuly, i can belt, but I have a lirttle bit of a slow learning process and speech some times when I'm just talking, not the best speaker and I have a Speech issue where when I'm talking some people that already know me and stuff they can understand me. When i was a child I did not have a very strong voice, Infact my voice was very weak then. but My voice is stronger but when I do talk, My voice sounds as ifI'm dtrrunk or some thing and some times slur words. Maybe it isMy accent, because I'm from Louisville Kentucky, but I don't even sound like a Kentuckian. I'm mixed, German, Irish, Scottish, and Native American all combined. I could demostrate My voice just talking, which in some of My videos on My flute making channel which I'm commenting from, you can also hear from when I'm taking explaining what I'm doing in making flutes. or playing them. Any suggestions or advice that could help My situation?

      Sergio Acuña A. Thanks for watching my videos. The youtube videos are designed to be "snapshots" or, brief tutorials. They are, in no way, designed to replace a comprehensive training course. I've created "How to Sing Better Than Anyone Else" for that purpose. Please join my vocal forum, it's free, and ask others their experience with the program. If you feel it's for you, take a closer look at my course. forum.kentamplinvocalacademy.com/

    Ken! I have some mildly serious question.
    I DON'T HAVE PROPER PLACE TO PRACTICE VOCAL!
    I'm in south korea, which is pretty small country.
    I live in apartment, obviously practicing in house is impossible since if I do, I'll get into lawsuits.
    We have tons of Karaokes, but it's not a good place to practice vocal since the place isn't properly set for it.
    Now, the best choice would be move to another place, or sign for vocal lesson, which costs quite a lot, but has proper place to practice.
    So...What should I do? Should I go sign up?

      I feel bad for ya. I live in India in my own house with parents and im almost 15. I can sing as bad or good or loud as i want in my own rooom. My suggestion would be to ask ur parents to add soundproof doors and windows. Or u can sing during the day

    Hey Ken! Through your videos I've been learning and developing my voice for years! I'm so amazed at the progress your material has allowed me to reach (and this is coming from someone who's never been able to sing before - hard work pays off!)
    Would you say it's healthy to experiment with the feeling in your throat if your muscles get sore or exhausted while belting? I never go hoarse at all, and can keep it up for 2-3 hours a day at times, so I figure it's not too damaging to my voice itself. I'm just not sure whether comfort in belting higher will come from working the muscles that support my voice, or whether I just need to refine my technique (maybe a bit of both).
    Cheers from South Africa! You're awesome!

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Comfort and ease comes from applying ALL of the techniques of proper singing. If you don't have my course, then you are missing some of the important elements that combine to take your voice to those higher register places. Not only do you need to know those techniques, you have to work them regularly over a period of time for the voice to be able to develop to that extent.

      Brent- take this time to focus on perfecting your practice technique. Your voice is going to take a few years to settle down.

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dedek Upil This is the most relaxed position of Open Throat Technique. First you train the tongue flat to the base of the mandible, then concave to the jaw, then in it's most relaxed state it will protrude away from the back of the throat creating maximum space in the back of the throat for perfect vocal tract shaping (as well as using it in place of hard consonants and glottal stops which become problematic and constrictive especially in hard rock singing).
