You’re not blind, I’ve done this video before and haha, i did way better this time.
Also I apologize for Alistair's right arrow animation getting cut off the screen, I didn't notice in time and had literally no way of fixing it.
But I tried something else and it worked way better so that’s what we have now. Making this wasn’t so bad, just a bit of a pain to replace so many pictures for the color changes. Pretty solid work to me, and it didn’t even take that long. (i think i’m lying) I’m glad I also learned how to animate better for FNF arrows, I don’t like the beta version I had so I’m very grateful I could improve before I came back to this project.
I had to take some creative liberties with the charting because Cesar’s soundfont has some high pitches at the end of a note, so visually, I’d need an extra arrow animation. Because the notes/charting isn’t visible, I wanted everything to be on beat visually, which meant pushing the original charting aside in favor of it looking visually pleasing.
The idea was to have my character, Alistair, be the complete opposite of Amaris. Specifically inverted, but as you can see, not all of the traits of “inverted” worked.
Female → male ✅
Short hair → long hair ❌ (not really)
Black background → white background ❌
White skin → Black skin ❌
Outfit mostly black → White outfit ❌
White eyes → Black eyes ❌
Skirt → No skirt ❌
Dance with arms in the air → Dance with arms down ✨(idk, kind of ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Eye sparkle → No eye sparkle ✅
Gloves → No gloves ❌
Generally happy → Generally sad ❌
The problems with the ❌’s is that none of them really worked. I didn’t want to blind the viewers with a white background, and black eyes on black skin didn’t work because the eyes I used for Alistair looked weird with their sparkle, so I removed them. If the background and suit were white, that’d be fine. But since I decided on a black background, a white suit would be awkward. It would also mess with the skirt's color. Speaking of skirts, yeah he has a suit dress. I traced and improvised Tanner’s suit dress from Ghost Twins because having a suit tail seemed boring to me and I wanted to have FUUUUUN!
The coloring got difficult because I would take the inverted colors of Amaris’ colors and make them look not inverted, aka make them brighter I suppose. I did not explain that well but picking colors with this video can get frustrating since Amaris goes through the rainbow but starts at blue. It just so happens that when teal is inverted it’s red, so lucky me.
“But couldn’t you have just copied Amaris’ colors and just inverted it in post?” Yes, but that would lead to similar hues such as green-yellow, two shades of blue, and a pink magenta instead of purple. I do not want any duplicate colors, I only get one chance at each color, I ain’t takin’ repeats or any shade that’s too similar because that’s what Jazmin did. You have to follow the formula of the original video, it’s kind of an unwritten rule.
