Thank you for the advice and comparison! Your collection is beautiful. I recently started growing Adenium, and it was helpful. I’m growing Obesum, Arabicum, Socotranum, and Somalense indoors under pretty intense grow lights. They’re so similar yet so different, and watching them grow has been a joy. It’s all happening so quickly 😅.
Your Adeniums are very nice. I purchased one today that has a very fat caudex for it;s size. It is just labelled as a desert Rose. I am confident it is a Hybrid Socotranum. It is squat and the leaves are very bushy on top and smalll oblong shaped. I recently purchased a Fockea Edulis for some caudex plants to mix in my cactus house. Amazing cool plants.
Hello, just found your video. I’m in Sacramento as well. Are you a member of any clubs? I’m getting ready to bring mine in for winter. I have all of the above. 😃 I was selling them, people don’t appreciate all the hard work that is involved. I’ve grown most of mine from seed, except for swazicum and Thai soco, coral branching like yours. This year I was thinking putting them in a room that doesn’t get any heat. Do yours really go dormant in the dining area? I did that last year too. Anyway was thrilled to hear S
great that another grower lives in sacramento! I will also be bringing them in the dinning room soon - yes mine go dormant in house as they loose all their leaves - i water once a month - seems to work well - I moved my plants to larger pots and they really added some size this summer -
Thank you for this informative video. I like adeniums as well as the red waratah. The red flower is my favorite flower. I saw your video about waratah and proteas; a very good informative video and very interesting. Unfortunately my 2 Telopeas died. Telopea is difficult to obtain in the Netherlands. Apparently I didn't take care of the waratah so well, although I did my very best to keep them alive. Back to adeniums: The climate in NL is not always as suitable for adeniums as in Sacramento. Summer can be a little different every year - less sun and sometimes too wet - we'll see this summer. I have 3 adeniums obesum. The oldest adenium hasn't bloomed for a few years, probably not getting enough sunlight? This year I'm going to put her in the garden. At what age does an adenium actually flower? Do you repot the adeniums every year, is this necessary? Thanks in advance for your answer. Regards, E.
I've found the hybrid Telopeas are much easier to grow if you can find one. I do not re-pot my adeniums every year - I move them to bigger pots as they grow larger and keep them there till the next larger pot. Sorry I don't know at what age they flower... I think when they are at least a foot tall...
First comment? O.K. Hey plant guy (didn't get your name). I'm also a grower from Lake Charles, La., where we enjoy a true sub-tropical climate near the Gulf of Mexico. The climate is great for plants, but we have a yearly threat of a hurricane. All the states which border the Gulf do too, so I don't feel like we're going it alone. What happened to Florida this year was terrible. I have 5 young Adenium obesums that are on average around 8-10" in height I bought from a vendor off of Etsy. I keep them outside on a covered patio and have began moving them out into direct sun the majority of the day. Not long after I planted them, the leaves began turning yellow and falling off! I thought I had done something wrong until I found out that this is normal for them. On close inspection, I see where new leaf buds are beginning to form to replace those that fell off, and some now have almost completely regrown. I intend to keep these plants until I'm old and gray, so I'm going strictly by the book in terms of watering, sunlight and protecting them against any cold weather. Good luck with yours. Looks like whatever you're doing is working! 🪴

Does the Obesum tend to flower more than the Arabicum?
yes... Arabicum rarely flowers - maybe 1-2 flowers the whole summer while Obesum flowers profusely

Cactus mix
