There's an episode of "That 70's Show" where the teens are heading to a concert by The Who that night. The mother asks what type of music does The Who play. So they started playing a tape of Squeeze Box. At first Mom thought it sounded like a nice pleasant song......until it got to the "in and out, and in and out, and in and out" part and then she got a horrified look on her face and shrieked "OH MY GOD!"🤣

The term squeezebox (also squeeze box, squeeze-box) is a colloquial expression referring to any musical instrument of the general class of hand-held bellows-driven free reed aerophones such as the accordion and the concertina. The term is so applied because such instruments are generally in the shape of a rectangular prism or box, and the bellows is operated by squeezing in and drawing out.
There is a double meaning, of course!!!

Even as a kid, I knew there were "naughty" implications in the lyrics to this tune. But... a squeeze box 🪗 is a musical instrument that's played at chest level, very similar to an accordion. Mama's always right, but I also think Brad has something there too. ✌️

"Squeeze Box" was originally intended for a Who television special planned in 1974. In the planned performance of the song, the members of the band were to be surrounded by 100 topless women playing accordions, So yeah it has a double meaning

I always think of Who By Numbers as being the most rounded Who album. Like it hasn't got many gems like on Who's Next and Who Are You, but it's consistently good throughout. Also, it's got electric and acoustic guitar pretty much throughout so it has a wholesome feel much like The Beatles' Help!

Both of Pete Townshend's (Guitarist for the Who) were professional musicians... This was (initially) a song written by him about his childhood recollections of their neighborhood block parties in Acton, West London, as they were some of his happiest in an otherwise very volatile home life.... But he does admit as composing continued, it did turn into a double entendre', toss-away song he never thought would be a hit. He also claims it was among his mother's favorite Who tunes and that she DID get the joke and loved it!!

While you did land on a "squeeze box" being both an accordion and a double entendre, you missed the last bit of the puzzle when you guessed that "mama's squeeze box" was her chest. To get to the actual answer, m'man, you gotta travel south of there a little. And, y'know, think about what part of "mama's" anatomy could be considered "a box that squeezes."

The spinners on their 3rd album. Alice Cooper had one with "School's Out" which turned into a school desk. Albums were great back in the day. Artwork was a thing - check out some Yes & Molly Hatchet covers. It's a lost art - pun not intended.

A squeeze box is in fact a musical instrument. It’s a accordion of sorts . If one was playing a squeeze box , it might in fact be difficult to sleep . The box itself does go in and out .

Biggest Who geek ever here and this track is off Who By Numbers LP. Slip Kid, How Many Friends, and Pete singing Blue, Red, and Grey are fantastic.

YES squeeze box is a type of accordion, and YES that gives this song a double meaning!

Haha what a potentially awkward song to listen to next to Mom 😂😂 You guys have a great relationship though.

Double entendre, priceless. Hope I see a review of Magic Bus, the Who
My Wife, is also an amazing one of theirs please delve into that one!

Interesting listening to that song with your mother sitting right there. I believe that I saw her blush

Sheryl Crow does a great cover of this and she plays an accordion while singing.

Last comment prolly. AC/DC everybody goes over the edge with Angus, awesome energy, no one gives a thought to some serious energy unseen in his brother and massive creator of the music. The rhythm guitar in the back. As much energy flowing but never noticed. He is zoned out while in his energy level. Hope he is enjoying the WALK ON. There's a channel "Haksul" And check out some Malcolm Young isolated, like "Jailbreak" Malcolm plays clean, an guitar, a patchcord and an amp. He is my hero. WHen a guy asked me to learn guitar so I could play rhythm this is the guy. I don't play lead, much. I think Malcolm was the madness or inspiration to many lyrics.
