    What would you do with a drunken sailer early in thy morn'en 🎶🎵👍. I also did my slant 6 , 318,360 head and heads the same way 😎👍. but I need to work on the valve stem sections on the heads . Also a helpful tip . clean and coat the steel gaskets with black RTV on both sides and let them cure . I also use the small squeeze tube of permatex coolant sealant around the coolant ports on the steel gaskey on both sides and let it cure . before I install the gaskets I run a thing coat of the same sealants on the same areas then do the torque specs . I let it fully cure over night. this will help stop any possible air / vaccum leaks between the heads and intake . I also spray permatex copper gasket sealant on the exhaust gaskets. Nice job Joe 😎👍✌.

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks brother. I don’t actually use the steel shim gaskets. I have a fat stack of them if you need any 😂. I like the felpro 1213’s with the wider windows and rubber seals made into them around the port windows. I still rtv or permatex around ports. I do like the size of the ports on them. It serves as a good guide to port the 318 heads to.

      IF a you have good flat head and deck and want all the compression you can get, the steel shims are great. Of course, that’s in the minority of stuff we build. I will use a shim gasket on the next race engine, though.

    I don’t understand why the intake is ground to the size of some random gasket. The gasket port opening is larger that the blueprint size of the cylinder head port by design. This seems unnecessary to grind away that much material.

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s no random gasket. It’s the gasket that I used in the build. The design of the gasket is to have it larger than the port for easy assembly and no issues. Check out Eric Weingartner on TH-cam for flow test and professional porting instructions. Also David Vizard is a good source of professional information.

    • @raoulcruz4404
      @raoulcruz4404 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustMoparJoe I have watched David Vizard videos. Still have the same question: what is the justification for grinding out to the gasket edge? By doing so, there is an abrupt increase in runner cross section area and then decrease to original size. Once you grind enough to get the runner walls aligned, what’s the point of going any further to the gasket edge?

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustMoparJoe I understand.. it's just that after years of knowing/doing this myself.. it's hard to watch someone work that much for seriously.. maybe 10 hp. I've worked and flowed many of these heads over the last 20 years. You can leave the port window alone...opening it at this stage is counter productive to velocity. Just skinny up the guide and steepen the far side bowl some more and just blend the short turn throat cut. Come in from the port widow to shape the floor at ssr peak. The 318 heads flow around 172-180 cfm peak 'stock'. Not great. So it's all that important to make it count by working in the right places. Cheers.
