- I'd like to thank ratix98 for telling me about Parallax. It's really quite an amazing tune for the C64. Martin Galway composed some truly amazing music.
I would however like to apologize about the song being incomplete. The intro simply HAD to be cut, otherwise I couldn't meet the 10:59 minute limit. I added a little bit of the repetition at the end, but I feel the overall song isn't diminished too much. Enjoy.
I remember, loading this game and just let the music play in the background, while playing with star wars toys on the floor :)
haha, i did the same thing. i also used star wars music while i played with the toys too.
i fucked girls.
@@UserX860 when you was 6 years old?
@@stop5gdotnet574 just a joke. also for me it's pure notalgia. 👍
@@UserX860 so now you say you are joke too? ;)
I still listen to C64 tunes today
Still listening in 2024!
End of this song = SID collapsing under its own awesomeness.
Aptly put. Like some avantgarde digital 8bit shoegaze
🤘😂👍
One of Galway's masterpieces in my opinion and will always hold fond memory's. The sid chip made it all possible of course. Takes me back to my schooldays 1981-1986 long live the c64, thanks Martin.
Just brilliant. This tune is so original, i'd never heard anything like it before and never since. I think Galway really cut loose on this one, and it's not to everyones tastes, but if you 'get it' then it's on another level. If you've never heard the whole thing, do yourself a favour and give it the full 10 minutes.
By any standard, this is a sublime bit of electronica
A classic
8:42 - the end is like nails down the blackboard of my soul. absolutely astounding that this man did this on a commodore 64. it couldnt be any plainer that he was a genius
What a sound. Still gives me goosebumps
This is one of my favourite pieces of Commodore 64 music and it still stands up well now. Brilliant!
Just found this on an audio cassette still in my old personal stereo, when i was looking through my attic.
Slapped new battery's in and BOOM, I was back in the day!
Still absolutely awesome, a timeless classic.
I used to make audio cassettes from my favourite c64 music classics 👍.
This song ascends into the category of religious experience or similar. It's not that great musically, but it's a universe in itself!
I think that some games in its time where really religious experience..
For real, song definitely is trippy but even transcends that label, truly is epic and spiritual sounding
Have you ever listened to this on WEED?
It's one of a kind from it's time that stands on its own its own three feet, today, tomorrow and the day after that. Thank you for uploading xx
Amazing what the Sid could do. Most of us are adults now and the C64 still impresses us.
Such a hard game, such an amazing song. Still gives me goosebumps to listen to it all these many years later. Love that chippy sound. I can still remember sitting in my basement on the C64 just listening to the song while doing other stuff. Miss those days.
This was a huge hit of a game when released and I remember sitting with my mate in his room just listening to how long the tune would last.. I think we got blinded by the raster splits on the title sequence after 10 minutes of Galway sonix and watching those 8 sprites scroll around the screen. :)
I'm surprised this hasn't ever been converted to a modern PC/console.
used to just let myself get hipnotised to this, no wonder I had odd dreams lol, for me this was the most amazing soundtrack on C64
Heard it for the first time: Masterpiece
I pop back every few weeks for a listen of this. It's not only a great Commodore 64 piece of music, it's a great piece of music full stop!
this tune is so awesome, everytime i hear it i could cry!!
Thanks a lot for this song! I remember loading this game from cassette just to hear this song. For a little boy it was just so epic. And it still is. Just pure greatness.
Wanna hear something cool? - Martin freaking Galway is the lead composer on Chris Roberts new game Star Citizen! :p
I never had Parallax on the 64, so this isn't very nostalgic for me, instead I can just appreciate one of the best chip tunes ever made. Martin Galway is a genius... while modern game music composers try and make every game sound like a Michael Bay movie, this does the job perfectly in about 7,000 bytes. I'd rather listen to this than most other game soundtracks.
I only realize now these guys were geniuses. Martin Galway, Rob Hubbard, Tim Follin and others who i forgot the names. They were the first musicians I ever listened to. I recorded the tracks on tape to listen on my walkman back in the 80's.
The game was unimpressive. I bought it for the music.
Ben Dagliesh, Reyn Ouwehand….
@@johankaewberg9512 We shouldn't exclude the Atari ST chip music guru's from mention either, like Jochen Hippel (Mad Max), Rob Hubbard of course, Anders Nilsen (An Cool) to name just a few... if you like chip music then there is some lovely stuff on the ST, demos, crack compilation menus - not on par with the SID but certainly worth a listen.
I remember playing this game when I was about 7 or so.. I used to be amazed by the music.. still am.... its like early psy-trance
A true masterpiece of music ahead of it's time by decades. Legend is galway
I think there's nothing better on the C64 than this. It's really astounding.
Martin Galway the man. I love his every song he did for great C=64. This masterpiece is my fav one. Hail the King,
Hail the Martin Galway
Holy pulse width modulation Batman
Finest C64 music ever - or at least top 3.
I used to record the track "from the air" onto a cassette tape and play it around the house. Terrible fidelity but the brilliance of the music shone through!
I listen to this at least once a month. Moooore please x
One of my favorite C64 songs and one of my favorite games. Galway for the win!
11 min of greatness!
Martin Galway ... much thanks man!
Such an outstanding piece of music
Thank you....
Just discovered this after reading an interview by Galway on Lemon64....
This could become my all time favourite, move over Ocean Loader....
I had my first c64 in 1983 I was 16 years old, always was extremely appreciative with the SID sound-chip MSX & Zx Spectrum did NOT have!
This is the first song that got me into music, so hypnotic.
Amazing what that likkle sid done, one of my all time faves, and insects in space! Thanks
The ending is the greatest...wow :)
added this to my playlist containing the best C64-songs many month ago and still like to play it again and again. old times. PLS/Plasma.
Epic music from a better world.
Thanks for posting, brings back memories when I played the game on my C64 many years ago. :)
Yeah ... I was looking for that : stuck in my head after all those years.
I understand. It is ok. You are quite normal.
love this track better at 6:10 to 8:45 the best bit of this amazing tune!
+rets1972 Goosebumps at 6:10. Brings back memories.
tunes of childhood
Martin is the best composer of C64 and Parallax is his masterpiece.
The more and more I listen to this, the deeper it gets stuck in my head.
lol you didn't include track 2! that was simply the best one out of the bunch. i do love the fact that you mentioned me. i find this somewhat funny because i was showing my friend my account and i said just search my name and this came up. :P
I got this game back in the day on a ZZap64! magazine cover tape. It was a free game they included on it. Totally weird experience playing this game as there were very little instructions with it. The surreal, haunting soundtrack really set the scene perfectly. Loved the tune that played when you entered a building to to dispatch the scientists.
Zzap 64....awesome c64 magazine..Garry Penn, Jullian Rigby and co where brilliant
If only I kept my copies, I had every issue...
Amazing, bring me back the good old times please)C;
The music is creepy and epic.
What a fantasic piece of music on a machine over 30 years old!
Childhood dreams. After receiving a new batch of games, trying them out all night long and listen to all the loaders and watching all the intros.
Absolute masterpiece. So atmospheric
Amazing!!!
It's amazing how the fact that it's all using just 3 channels never seems to become a problem. There's so much going on at all times
A simpler time. Martin composed everything with guitar, Rob with a keyboard.
A magnificent piece of work.
My first experience of Parallax was not on the C64, but on the '100 Most Remembered C64 Tunes' demo on the Amiga. So there you go.
I had no idea Galway has written so many awesome tunes - some of them are my favorites (like this, and Wizball) and I didn't even know who wrote em :D.
The name of the Game comes of the Parallax Scrolling Method . Means 1 Graphic Layer scrolls faster then the Other .The Interesting thing is ,,THE musik Layers do the same here .So Parallax method is Used TWICE in the game .!!!
Man, that's such a trippy piecy. I played the hell out of this game and never figured out how to finish it. Awesome tune.
Absolute epic
When life seems too complicated and overwhelming, I play starting at 8:43 and all life makes sense...
Excellent idea Spock.
The first C64 game I ever saw. The day I fell in love with the machine.
Damn.... At 5:58 when the Low-Bass-Hum starts again and it's volume rises.... Incredible
I was too young to be able to play this game with any success, but I'd load this up just for this music and dance like a lunatic
For all times to come. The hymn of the C64 era.
wow, und das auf dem ollen Brotkasten :)
With this Song my SID caught fire !!!
Never played a C64. But man I know what great music is. It's this.
One of the very first games I ever owned... Didn''t like the music then but these days I really appreciate it!
This brings back some pleasant memories. One of the few games that I actually paid for and I remember the day I loaded it up in teh old 1541 drive and typed LOAD"*",8,1 and was totally mesmorized by this awesome tune.
Oh my, @ 8:00 onwards, still get that spine tingle, ADSR at its greatest :)
Brilliant tune. One of the best for the 64.
@therideguide I agree with you to an extent and I was lucky enough to work as a programmer at Ocean but Hubbard is still amazing... In a different way of course.. Galway's tunes are just as hypnotic as you say.
this video was very easy to find in the past internet turning different and tyhe algorythms rule the world
whos parents thought c64 music was just a noise? , thus tune used to drive my parents crazy at start
You can certainly hear Jean-Michel Jarre's influence in a lot of Galway's music.
Yup- he was very big back then - and had similar sounds to what a c64 can make. Hubbard and a lot of the others too have some tracks that sound like JMJ, Glass, Pink Floyd etc.
so good. Like Tangerine Dream only more epic.
I heard this sid first in a Ash&Dave Demo
"Terminal City"..
haha, had a similar experience about 20 years ago...and I'm 35 now ;-)
Yeah it was either Zzap64 or Commodore User 64/Amiga. I still have have a mint condition issue 1 Zzap64 from May 85 complete with all the original flyers :) No tape though heh. Still an amazing read, and as fresh today as it was back then.
you can upload it all NOW tho :) .. its 2019...
gold
Wow ❤
This tune and Oceans Loader & Sanxion Loader really amazing considering its from a commodore 64, Galloway & Hubbard where stars of the computer music world.
please Airwulf, dont forget Jeroen Tel!!!!!!!! (music reference f.e.: Turbo Outrun/Commodore64)
look at the assembly 2012 video where he plays some of his 8+bit tracks
to not name him can just mean that you didnt know him haha
Galway, not Galloway
I always somehow thought that if Ender's Game were a video game, this would be the theme.
Ulan hala duyduğumda bile kendimden geçiorum ya. yehh bee.. Yokmu eski C64 delisi aranızda :S
Great !!!
I had this as part of one of those great 6-game compilations that were so common with C64. I think the others included Head Over Heels and Ace of Aces. Unfortunately, the cassette for Parallax never worked!
Nice. The beginning reminds me of some tune in the Night/Dawn/Day of the dead movie, can't remember which one of them had that.. or was it some other zombie movie.. :P Well anyways, really cool song, as usual from Galway! Thanks for posting
Parallax shortens the life of your SID chip.
08:42... that's the one
Never heard of this but its awesome what people managed to do with this limited amount of resources.
@therideguide G and H are both geniouses in their field. I just love this fuckin era and Im blessed that I got to witness all this great music. I wish this is the tune they play in my funeral.
C'è l'avevo questo gioco!
Amazing.
Martin Galway v Rob Hubbard in a fight. Who would win?
@SimoWill75 I think the end is amazing! Then again, the whole tune is outstanding, so it's just a shame it's not on youtube in its entirety... :)
Thats why a New version will never have the Touch of the Original ,It always sounds like you miss something .
@andwilmor The game was great also, but you're right about the tune too. Great composition.
I´d played this game night and days in my school time .... and listened to the music - it was like music by jean michel jarre...
