I think they tried to make this game a 3d plat former in a way. Sure, there's racing, but there's also lots of exploring the tracks for hidden items. There's also modes were you have to backtrack to get other items. It just doesn't work.

the thing is that the orignal saturn version of sonic R is different from the PC/GEMS version is that the saturn version is a bit different and for some people it is easier to control with the saturn controller.
As for the graphics of saturn sonic R it does look a better personallly but at the cost of really bad draw distance which is personally tolerable but it requires more memorization because of it.
Amy Rose is my favorite character in the entire Sonic franchise, she is my most played character in Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympics
I think the reason that Robotnik isn’t grayed out is because all of the races have to have five characters and because there’s only four playable ones they had to use one of the unlockable characters
There's ways to skip that darn loop in Reactive Factory, do the Metal Knuckles race and you'll see him go off track to skip the fricking loop and also play the game like it's a racing game only Amy doesn't deceive your eyes making her a tad bit easier to play as but Sonic and the others control like cars so control them like cars and there's an updater for the PC version to make it look like the Saturn version without screen crunch.
edit: The coconut missiles from the Egg-Robo and Eggman are useful, they completely make you lose your momentum if hit.

everyone if you have problems with turning press the R and L triggers to trigger some sort of drift. it works really well.
I know how to trigger yourself with just one race.
Play as Amy on Radical City and try not to get "Livin' in the city" stuck in your head.

It's easy today to talk down about this game, but in 1999, this was something I'd play with my brother for hours. We are so spoiled by 3D graphics these days that we can't appreciate the foundation of it. This game was A+ in it's time, it's not fair to compare to modern day games. The video did make me laugh though.

Sonic R came out in 1997, there was no reason to created random clones. We had Espio, Charmy, Fang, Beam, etc. Metal Knuckles and Tails Doll are just like Pink Gold Peach: Only made for roaster filler slods for what could had been more original and unique characters.

Ok this is what triggers me, Nathaniel gets mad when they use a character slot for no reason (e.x. Dark pit in SSB4) but when they make an alternative skin for sonic in the same slot he gets mad!
It's probably because Super Sonic runs differently compared to the regular Sonic.

I actually happened to like Sonic R when I was younger, still do as a matter of fact. I guess that is because I played the Gamecube's sonic gems collection version which I think reworked some of the game to make it easier and better. (Sadly I no longer have a game cube) but if I had a Saturn, I'd gladly try it out.
Sonic R triggers me because it was the reason why Nintendo didn't name Mario kart 64 "Mario kart R".
