I’ll never forget listening to this with friends while we drove through deep woods in the middle of the night on our way to the coast. Nothing but endless forest and one long road and no other lights besides our headlights. One of those moments that stick with you forever.
This takes me all the way back to 7th grade. This is the first song I downloaded on Napster (my age is showing), and my first time ever hearing of David Bowie.
Pure and utter magic. There is no equal to a Philip Glass, David Bowie and Aphex Twin combination - there's just no point to music anymore if these 3 can fuse together in complete cerebral fireworks. It's done, music has gotten to the last level and beaten the boss.

For me the best of this disc I remembered to put it one night of 2003 to "gothic" friends in my car as a part of a compilation as i made, it was funny to see their faces
I actually had the same thought when first listening this. Without the context of the original backing track, you lose all sense of the rhythm of the vocals, and it's almost like RDJ is framing him as some sort of rambling lunatic. He takes lines like "I'll drink all the time" and isolates them. Then the glitches get more frequent as the song goes on. It makes you hear it totally differently.
@@mynameismark25 happy to share mate. One of the compositions on Evening Star is basically a short version of Eno’s «Discreet Music» from the same year, by the way... I listen to records of his like Ambient 1 and Thursday Afternoon on repeat for hours on end, and while I don’t think I could ever tire of Discreet Music it’s a piece I’m careful not to play too often. It’s the ultimate sacred music for me, personally. Not to over-hype it in case you don’t know it, lol. Just thought I’d share that as well! Good to converse a bit with people who share an enthusiasm for music.
They allowed Aphex Twin access to the original masters for the remix, which were apparently stored in a Swiss bank vault. Apparently he only agreed to the remix if he could access the masters, though of course this could all just be lies knowing aphex.
This is my favorite version of Heroes.
Bowie sounds like he’s completely delirious in this remix
lmao
Huh? Another person scared of new ideas?
@@adamt5 ?
totally mental
@@adamt5 so you don’t think he sounds fucking nuts on this mix?

I wish I was as young as you are ;-)
deranged on lost highway ost is pretty rad

The best remix in all of the remixes.
the truth
aphex twin knows music.
@John Dohn Aphex bowies twin knows ;-)
A warm sensation wraps my body as I listen to this masterpiece
I remember buying this album from circuit city around 2005/2006. Love it
Can’t even listen to the original anymore. No superiority in either artist but I quite enjoy this mix more
Try listening to german-english version of this masterpiece. Its good.
Thankyou Philip Glass & Alphex Twin.
This feels like I am in space... receiving messages.... from every where
But the quality of sound ruined it
And your struggling to switch off the reciever with those big clumpsy gloves.
I really like this song and it gets me every time, but at 4:36 I can't help but laugh after hearing "ddaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy"
Same. 😂
Sounds like it's about to erupt into hardcore breakbeat madness at that point.
Just picturing that transition rn 🎧💣

Christ i love this!
This is what the brain of Glass, Bowie and James is like when it wakes up.
I will invent the something the whole world will benefit from.
Study Tesla, Wilhelm Reich, and Nassim Haramein for some ideas
DO IT!!!!!!!!!11111!!!!!!!!!!
Did u do it yet?

Genius!
That hissing 'S' at some point makes me want to dance in a cloud of foam, naked
Goosebumps
Richard is really taking the piss out of Bowie on this song.
Nah
he extracted the piss straight from your own bladder

fucking weird, genius
It's like being caught in a hurricane of awesomeness.
David Bowie approaches fourth density
Sorry mates, but this is not working. (Bowie storms out of the studio).
Wow
Fantastic!!!
only bit i like about the original is the strange metallic guitar feedback at around 13 seconds in. it doesn't reappear in the song again.
Fripp’s guitar throughout the original is amazing, imo. What you’re referring to there is probably a hint of his «frippertronics» technique.
@@Vingul oh man you're right! For years i had no idea this existed!
@@mynameismark25 Cool man :)
Perhaps you’d enjoy «Evening Star» by Fripp & Brian Eno, one of my favourite records.
@@Vingul oh man! thanks so much. I recently listened to The Plateaux of a Mirror for the first time. Love ambient stuff.

Awesome
If Bowie carried on with drugs during the Berlin Period.
BIt good this 👍
Did Bowie sing it in for the song or is that just a sample?

Meh, I'm not impressed like so many others here. It sounds like 3 people on 3 entirely different wavelengths, no meshing at all. 👎
Something new after playing the Bowie 'nstrumentals' CD. Sounds of a lifetime...TY, Glass, Bowie, AT.
damn good mix
I fucking worship at this shrine to Aphex Twin, god of music, to him I offer my life and wash myself in waves of sound. Amen.
Nahhhh should have left this one alone it don't work Aphex mate
